God’s Word For All Psalm 31 (Responsively)

In You, O LORD, I have taken refuge;* deliver me in Your righteousness. Be my Rock of refuge,* a strong Fortress to save me. Into Your hands I commit my spirit;* redeem me, O L ORD , the God of truth. Refrain My times are in Your hands;* save me in Your unfailing love. How great is Your goodness,* which You have stored up for those who fear You. You heard my cry for mercy* when I called to You for help. Glory be to the Father and to the Son* and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,* is now, and will be forever. Amen. Refrain

Jonah 3:1-5, 10 Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: 2“Get up, go to Nineveh, the great city, and preach to it the message that I tell yo u.” 3 So Jonah set out and went to Nineveh just as the word of the Lord had commanded. Now Nineveh was a great city to God. It required a three -day walk. 4Jonah walked through the city for a day, and he called out, “Forty more days and Nineveh is going to be overthrown!” 5 The men of Nineveh believed God. They proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least. 10 When God saw their actions, that they had turned from their evil way, God relented from the disaster which He said He would bring on them, and He did not carry it out.

Mark 1:14-20 After John was put in prison, Jesus went to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God. “The time is fulfilled,” He said. “The kingdom of God has come near! Repent, and believe in the gospel. ” As Jesus was going along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea, since they were fishermen. Jesus said to them, “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. ” Imme-

diately they left their nets and followed him. Going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat mending the nets. Immediately Jesus called them. They left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed Him.

1 C or i n t h i a n s 7: 29 - 31 I also say this, brothers: The time is short. From now on, let those who have wives live as if they have none; those who weep, as if not weeping; those who rejoice, as if not rejoicing; those who buy, as if not possessing; and those who use the world, as if not getting any use out of it . For t he way of l i f e t hat bel ongs t o t hi s worl d i s passi ng away.

Doctrine worth dying for is doctrine worth discussing. This Creed carefully and clearly confesses who the real God is.

Confession of Faith

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church —the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. tune:

Here His bread-and-wine was given, to sustain my fainting heart; Hear the gracious word of heaven that has made my grief depart: "Look! Your sins are all forgiven! Go in peace and sin no more!" Satan's cruel chain is riven, and my slavery is o'er.

B e n e d i c t i o n a n d P a r t i n g S o n g tu n e: #576cw God’s Word brings us here in faith. God’s Word works in us to live in love. Jesus moves us to serve Him and others freely, in joy.

Spread, oh, spread the mighty Word; spread the kingdom of the Lord Ev’rywhere His breath has giv’n Life to beings meant for heav’n. Tell them how the Father’s will made the world and keeps it still, How His only Son He gave all from sin and death to save. Lord of harvest, grant anew, joy and strength to work for You, Till the gath’ring nations all see Your Light and heed Your call.

C OOL Q UOTE

FROM A

D USTY P REACHER - GUY

“Now concerning private confession before communion, I still think as I have held heretofore, namely, that it neither is necessary nor should be demanded. Nevertheless, it is useful and should not be despised; for the Lord did not even require the Supper itself as necessary or establish it by law, bu t Christ left it free when He said, “As often as you do this,” etc. … So concerning the preparation for the Supper, we think that preparing oneself by fasting and prayer is a matter of liberty. Certainly one ought to come sober and with a serious and attentive mind, even though one might not fast at all and pray ever so little. … For the best preparation is…a soul troubled by sins, death, and temptation and hungering and thirsting for healing and strength.”
