16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 2017 Mothers’ Union’s Global Moment This 16 Days of Activism, we are focussing on combating the stigma surrounding gender-based violence, by breaking the power of silence, lifting the shame placed on survivors, and shifting the blame from victim to perpetrator. On 26th November we are inviting people around the world to join together in a global moment to raise awareness of gender-based violence, by participating in a symbolic act. We are inviting everyone to gather together at any time on Sunday 26th November and to: link hands with one another to represent our unity in ending gender based violence; reach out hands to represent our connection with those around the world affected by, or campaigning against gender-based violence; and lift hands up, as a sign of prayer for an end to gender-based violence. You may wish to carry out the symbolic act as part of a church service, and you can find a Mothers’ Union’s service outline for this year’s 16 Days with the global moment included on the website. You could also carry out the global moment in a public place, or as part of a prayer vigil or at the start or end of a march or procession to raise awareness. The symbolic act can be done standing or sitting, and we are encouraging everyone to photograph their global moment, and put it on social media on the 26th November, to get momentum, using either the hashtag #letstalkaboutit #mu16days, #endstigma or #endgbv. Please also include the Mothers’ Union handle (@MothersUnion on Twitter).
