InTroDUcTiOn I’m delighted to have been involved with the Loogabarooga Festival since the idea for a children’s illustrated literature festival to take place in Loughborough was initially proposed. Last year was the inaugural festival and it went phenomenally well, with most shows, performances and activities sold out, some fantastic feedback from children, parents, venues and performers, and a town centre that was busy and buzzing for the full five days! I managed to get to a few shows with my own family and particularly enjoyed the Diary of a Wimpy Kid! Building on that success, this year’s festival will be extended to six days, with some new venues and plenty of amazing events. I'm proud to support the Loogabarooga Festival and look forward to joining you and your families at some of the informative, educational and most of all, fun events that we have planned for this year.

Rt Hon NIcKy MorGAn, MP for Loughborough

Our first Loogabarooga Festival was incredibly successful and this year is going to be even bigger and better. We have attracted some of the best-known names in children’s illustrated literature and I am sure people, young and old, will enjoy the events we have planned across the six days. The festival is an event we are looking to grow and develop. It is hugely exciting for Loughborough, the borough and beyond and it will help to develop the area’s growing reputation for staging high-quality events. Once again, I would like to say a big thank-you to all of our partners for their support in making the Loogabarooga Festival possible.

Hey DUgGeE

School only event

Loughborough Town Hall 10.30 - 11.30am

A Loogabarooga event for invited school groups only. Sarah and Philip will be talking about becoming and being authors, and the inspiration behind their brand new bestselling book ‘Jinks & O’Hare Funfair Repair’. There will be some real-life drawing, loads of fun and the opportunity to ask loads of questions to two of the country’s leading children’s authors and illustrators.

£5 per person, suitable for pre-school children. Children must bring a grown-up. Booking essential. Hey Duggee is an incredibly popular and hilarious educational pre-school animation. Children will be delighted to see Duggee’s Squirrel Club brought to life in front of them and will enjoy a special storytelling session of The Best Scarecrow Ever, followed by hands-on participation in some of the club’s favourite activities - crafting and colouring their very own scarecrow! Everyone will then be encouraged to purchase a ‘Hey Duggee’ book, have it ‘stamped’ with an exclusive festival paw print and receive a limited edition storytelling badge to take home.

LoOgaBAroOGa’s amAZinG boOK beNcHEs! Loughborough has had a long association with children’s literature since the very first Ladybird book was produced by a jobbing printer called Wills & Hepworth in the town during the First World War. Ladybird books were printed at Angel Yard in Loughborough from 1915-1973 and in the town until 1999. Last year was Ladybird Books’ centenary and to celebrate, Charnwood Borough Council commissioned the production of eight amazing hand painted book benches which featured some of the nation’s favourite Ladybird titles including Shopping with Mother, Cinderella and Bunnikins. The benches which were located throughout the town were incredibly popular and visitors came from far and wide to see them. This year we ran a competition for the public to nominate their favourite Ladybird book. Rumpelstiltskin was voted as the most popular title by people online at www.loogabarooga.com and via the Loogabarooga Facebook and Twitter (@Loogabarooga16) pages. Look out for the new Rumplestiltskin bench in the town this year. Why not visit all nine of the book benches and let us know which one’s your favourite via Facebook and Twitter!
