2012 ACC Baseball Championship May 23-27, 2012, NewBridge Bank Park, Greensboro, North Carolina

Game No. 3 - No. 2 North Carolina vs. No. 7 Wake Forest Quotes North Carolina Head Coach Mike Fox Opening Statement..... “A good win for us, I thought we really battled against Cooney he’s really good. We put together one innning there and I think you win games in the tournament late with two out hits and we got two or three big ones there to get us that four run inning.” On the pitching performance of RC Orlan.... “RC was terrific for us. I thought we extended him a little bit more than we wanted to but we didnt really expect him to pitch against Miami anyway, so it was a good win for us.” Outfielder Chaz Frank On throwing the runner out at the plate... “Off the bat it was kind of a blooper and I kind of saw Blair(Wake Forest Infielder) hesitate a little bit so I knew that if I picked the ball up as quickly as I could we would have a good chance to get him and Jacob made a great play at the plate. “ Pitcher RC Orlan On his performance.... “I didn’t feel like I had my best stuff today my fastball was a little inconsistent and I didnt locate my slider as well as I wanted to but I made some big pitches when I was behind in the count to keep my walks down. Coach Forbes went over their lineup before the game and said that they were pretty aggressive and to just keep attacking and that worked out for us today.” Wake Forest Head Coach Tom Walter Opening Statement… “I thought Tim Cooney really threw the ball well enough to win tonight, but there were a couple plays certainly that we didn’t make behind him. I thought his stuff was really good tonight, but give credit to their (North Carolina’s) pitching staff. That’s why they have the best pitching staff in the league. It’s tough to get runs off their bullpen, so we felt like we needed to score off of (Shane) Taylor early. We had a couple opportunities, but one baserunning play at the plate went against us and it was a big momentum change.” On Pat Blair being called out at home plate in the third inning… “If Pat had made a better slide, he’s probably safe. Give (Chaz) Frank credit for making an accurate throw and (Jacob) Stallings credit for blocking the plate. I felt like it was the right decision to go, and Pat’s a good runner so I liked our chances of scoring there. On bouncing back after today’s loss… “Well, we’ll rely on the next day’s starting pitcher, so we’ll need a really good outing out of Jack Fischer. He’s thrown the ball really well the last three weekends, so we’ll count on him. We know that we’re seeing (N.C. State’s Carlos) Rodon, so we certainly can’t expect to go out there and score seven or eight runs with a guy of his ability. So, we’re going to have to win a low-scoring ballgame that starts with Jack Fischer.” Wake Forest junior Pitcher Tim Cooney On the four-run third inning by North Carolina… “I just missed my spot on two fastballs, and there were just some well-placed balls that inning (by North Carolina). It just wasn’t a good inning for me.”
