Game No. 8 - No. 6 Miami vs. No. 7 Wake Forest Quotes Miami Head Coach Jim Morris Opening Statement… “First of all, it’s a big win because it gives us an opportunity to hopefully play for an ACC Championship. We just have to go watch the game tomorrow night and see what happens between Carolina and State. With the position we’re in, it’s very obvious that we have to pull for Carolina to win for a chance for us to play in the championship game. Tonight I thought we played very well as a team. Of course (Eric) Whaley had an outstanding start, and he pitched very well. We played very solid defense, and Chantz Mack got some big hits for us. I just thought it was a complete game for us as a team.” On the significance of playing in a championship game in his home state… “I like coming back (to North Carolina) and reminiscing to be honest with you. It’s nice to be here. I was born in Lexington and went to college at Elon, so I’m a North Carolina guy. Even though I’ve been gone a long time, my roots are definitely here. That’d be nice, but number one is we’d like a chance to play for a ring.” On Eric Whaley’s pitching performance… “He pitched great, and in the seventh inning I was going to take him out because his pitch count at that point was 110. But Whaley wanted to stay in the game, and he came to me saying that he wanted to stay in the game and that he could get it done. I don’t do that a lot, but he deserved that opportunity to stay in the game because he was pitching very well.” Junior Starting Pitcher Eric Whaley On wanting to remain in the game for the eighth inning… “I felt like my stuff was getting better throughout the game, and I felt better going out there each inning. So, I just wanted to stay in the game. I was spotting on my fastball pretty good inside and out, and my slider was pretty good tonight.” On the team’s mentality after losing their opening game of the tournament to NC State… “We just have to take it one game at a time. That game slipped away from us, and we knew that if we won the next two, we’d still have a chance (to play in the title game). Now we just have to hope that UNC can pull one out for us.” Junior Outfielder Chantz Mack On the team rooting for North Carolina tomorrow in order to advance to championship play… “I’ll be rooting for them at the top of my lungs. I expect to lose my voice rooting for Carolina. We need them to win big. It’s weird (not to control our own fate), and it’s going to be very nerve-wracking pretty much all day leading up to the game and throughout the game. It is strange.” On his offensive success in the tournament thus far… “I just feel really comfortable at the plate. I’m just sitting back on the breaking balls and I’m on time for the fastballs. I just feel really good that I’m able to help the team.” Wake Forest Head Coach Tom Walter “In the first six innings, we got the lead off man on if you count the home run by (Carlos) Lopez. We’ve got to do a better job of moving those guys along and around.” On NCAA Tourney chances “I feel very good about it. Coming into today’s play, we had 16 wins against the Top 50. Only five other teams had more than 16. So that’s a bib boost in our favor.” “We’ll practice Sunday, and on Monday at 12, we’ll be glued to the TV and hoping for the best.”

Game No. 6 - No. 8 Georgia Tech vs. No. 4 Virginia Quotes Virginia coach Brian O’Connor “That’s what you call a good, old-fashioned butt-kicking.” On plans for the rest of the tournament “Obviously, we don’t control our own destiny, but it’s important to play good, winning baseball tomorrow.” On Georgia Tech “They’re an offensive team. If you don’t make your pitches against them, they’re going to make you pay. We didn’t make the pitches we needed to.” Virginia pitcher Scott Silverstein On whether his confidence has been affected by recent difficulty “I’ve struggled a bit lately, but that’s not going to change anything in my mind or in my confidence.’ On relief pitcher Nick Howard “Nick pitched like he hadn’t all year. He has been very consistent for us all year, and he wasn’t today. But that happens. He’s not perfect.” Virginia outfielder Colin Harrington On the long drive he nearly caught against the fence “I had a pretty good jump on it. I think it was in my glove, but it got dislodged as soon as the glove hit the wall.”
