No. 1 seeds are 22-3 all-time against eighth-seeded opponents ... the last time (prior to today) that an eighth-seeded team beat the Tournament’s top seed was on May 19, 2001 when No. 8 NC State topped No. 1 Florida State 8-1 ... the first time a No. 8 beat a No. 1 was on May 17, 1985 when #8 Wake Forest beat #1 Virginia 8-4. n Georgia Tech’s Jake Davies’ two home runs were his 10th and 11th of the year ... of his 17 career home runs, 11 have come with runners on base ...
