Monday, June 3, 2013 Session #100 Caveat Emptor – Raising Your HR Technology Market IQ

11:00am – 12:00PM Session #168 Untangling Metrics – How Citrix Used Design Thinking to Create an Exciting Metrics Environment

Do you wander through the Exhibit Hall dazed and confused? Are you there just to pick up the free gifts? The pace of development combined with competitive shakeout has made the HR technology market very volatile. Attend this session and become HCM market-savvy; understand the software categories, market trends, who the vendors are in which areas, who bought whom since last year and who’s been reincarnated with a new brand, what the latest developments are and how they can impact your selection and implementation process. Become a smart consumer!

On the journey to find the right metrics/analytics, Citrix discovered that it is not an HRIS activity; it requires understanding of the users’ needs, how to prototype, and gain acceptance. They applied Design Thinking processes to turn the metrics experience 180 degrees and get great acceptance from HR and managers. Rich Berger and Keith Erickson will demo the methodology and share the outcomes. Presenters: Rich Berger, HRIP, SPHR, Senior Director, Global HRIS & Metrics, Citrix Keith Erickson, Senior Manager, HR Metrics and Analytics, Citrix

Session #112 CODE RED – Transforming Talent Processes and Technology at Cadence Health

Session #209 SaaS in the Trenches: Real World Pros and Cons

Starting with the basics and instituting a systematic approach, Cadence Health revived HR and created a best-in-class HR team.

SaaS, Software as a Service, has been the hot trend for the last few years, but conceptually has been around for many years. Vendors in all spaces are spending a great amount of time, effort, and money trying to convince companies and HRIS practitioners that SaaS is easier and cheaper to implement and maintain. Seem too good to be true? Come hear from two HRIS practitioners about their firsthand experiences implementing several SaaS systems including some of the challenges you need to be aware of when considering a SaaS solution.

Presenter: Shawn Fitzgerald, HRIP, SPHR, PMP, Director, HR Operations, Cadence Health

Presenters: Joe Almodovar, Senior Director of Global HRIS & Payroll, A.T. Kearney Jeanne Kalinowski, HRIP, HRIS Director, Hyatt Hotels Corp

Session #163 HR Maturity Indexing: Your annual HR cholesterol check-up!

Your organization’s ability to achieve HR excellence at the technology layer is directly attributable to its level of HR Maturity. Many organizations attempt to create business value through their Human Resources initiatives and technology usage. In most cases the initiatives, programs, solutions and technologies are successfully established and maintained in the eyes of the HR department, and are often feats in process and compliance management, but rarely deliver outputs which are measurable and have a direct contribution to business objectives. This session will provide practical insight into how HR value is created and how to avoid implementing solutions that are unsupported or are even destructive. Presenter: Rob Scott, Practice Director: Human Capital Services, Presence of IT

Attend this session to see how and why a fully integrated Human Capital Management (HCM) strategic solution including Talent Management (TM) and the burgeoning discipline of Workforce Management (WFM) creates a significantly higher-performing organization. See how TM and WFM work together in a complementary and synergistic way to lead to increased individual, group, and organizational performance.

Presenters: Kelly Butler, Director - HR Operations, Rackspace Chinam Kry, Director, Product Marketing, Workday

Every steering committee needs to understand the extent of both direct (“hard”) and indirect (“soft”) savings in order to give approval. However, there is often disagreement on how savings should be categorized. In the session, Jacqueline Kuhn will define major savings categories, discuss ways to initiate dialogue with senior leaders, and present working models to calculate both direct (e.g., recruiting cost per hire, onboarding process costs, termination costs) and indirect (e.g., employee / manager / administrator hours, time to competence) savings. This presentation will equip you to better understand how to analyze data, develop robust models, and effectively communicate the overall return on investment of their proposed talent management initiative.

Intuit has a unique view of its HR programs and a solid technical program management is crucial to the success of that vision. David Reed of Intuit will share how HR combined technology with strategy to grow and develop Intuit’s talent management practices, and how the new technology and processes support the company’s global growth through standardization across all lines of business. Elaine Orler will join David to share her experience as one of the facilitators of Intuit’s successful methodology. After attending this presentation, participants will be able to gain insight into the relationship between technology and strategy to grow and develop HR’s role in talent management practices.

In this era of healthcare reform and emerging issues with benefits, employers should consider the advantages of a “point solution” for benefits enrollment which focuses solely on benefits over the integrated “enterprise solution.” A benefits enrollment point solution system will engage employees, help them to make more informed decisions about their benefit selection and understand the value of their benefit package. Using a case study approach, attendees will learn about strategic and bottom line advantages to benefit point solutions (and the trade-offs of moving from an enterprise system), along with tips for a smooth point system selection and implementation process.

Your HR organization knows it needs to be the authority on the workforce. So, what’s the secret sauce? When you bring together the critical components of your organization—people, resources, and work—into a unified system, you can gain true visibility into the four fundamentals of your workforce: cost, capacity, capability, and quality. Your management team wants more than just a business strategy, so give them real-time insight to drive execution. Attend this session to hear how Rackspace built a business case for change in HR. Learn how they leveraged a unified suite of cloud-based, business-management applications to maximize cost savings and gain a complete picture of their workforce.

Session #155 Organize for Workforce Analytics!

Session #176 Putting HR in the Driver’s Seat of Social Collaboration

Much is made around purchasing tools, services, capabilities to “do” Workforce Analytics. But a key to success is to create a capable, effective, well-managed, and correctly placed Workforce Analytics team: the folks who are actually going to do the work! Is it IT, Finance, Shared Services, Compensation or somewhere else? This presentation will address the keys to planning for, building out and succeeding with your Workforce Analytics team.

New technologies, social media and shifting workforce demographics are changing how work gets done, resulting in a highly collaborative environment where group creativity powers productivity and innovation. Industry analysts predict that these trends will also impact the role of HR within the organization. Session #159 Following Finance: Implementing an Integrated HCM Solution After Other Applications

Presenter: Doug Ring, Chief Technology Officer, Peoplefluent

Session #197 Inspect What You Expect: Building a Global Framework for Business Success

In a perfect world, a company-wide business system solution would not only include an HCM solution but would also have the HCM solution in place first. The world, however, is seldom perfect and HCM solutions occasionally must be implemented after other business solutions are in place. This session will provide the tools necessary to have a successful implementation when “Following Finance.” The session takes an “applications agnostic” approach in identifying integration points, shared data, roles and responsibilities, and pitfalls when implementing an integrated HCM solution when financials or other applications have already been implemented and are using “HR” data.

This session will present a methodology for building a global framework for vendor evaluation, systems deployment, post-production support and legal/regulatory compliance. Karen Beaman and Felipe Carneiro will provide a model to help companies evaluate different levels of software globalization and how to evaluate if a vendor is truly global. They will share various strategies to global systems deployment from pilots to phases to big bang and provide a leading practice approach to supporting HCM in a production environment, ensuring all country legislative and regulatory requirements are met.

Presenters: Michelle Nackrelli, HRIS Manager, WESCO Joseph Aston, PHR, Practice Lead, TITAN GS

Session #125 Creating HR Fireworks: When Efficiency and Employee Experience Collide

Session #162 The Great Divide: Managing in an Off-Shored World

What attributes are most valued in an HRIS Director? For that matter, what are the key attributes for any successful HRIS professional? This presentation, from the perspective of an HRIS Director whose career spans 20 years leading an HRIS function at a large organization, provides insights on what it takes to be a successful HRIS professional. Participants attending will gain an understanding of the key differentiating attributes that Leadership looks for in selecting HRIS talent. While experience is the best teacher, applying lessons learned from others provides a development opportunity and gives you an edge in the war for talent.

Technology: It finds our way, our keys, our pets and even our children. It locates restaurants, controls our cars and makes everything so simple! But, just because technology enables, it does not mean we should always rely on it. Clinton Wingrove will explore some of the issues with deploying contemporary technology to support Talent Management and provide 10 tips to help avoid the pitfalls and be successful. He will guide attendees through the three steps successful organizations take when implementing talent management technology and detail how to successfully use technology to align talent management efforts with employer and employee goals.

Process efficiency has been a priority for HR, particularly during challenging economic times. But efficiency by itself will not deliver long-term success. Companies must also consider the employee experience. Deb Maher and Cary Schuler will share how DeVry Inc.’s strategic adoption of HR technologies that deliver improved processes on the front end while driving efficiency on the back has transformed the employee experience, enabled them to get more from their existing systems, and ultimately provided a new service delivery method. Learn how the latest social technologies can be infused into traditional HR scenarios to take the employee experience to the next level.

Offshoring – often confused with outsourcing but not at all the same – is here to stay. Like outsourcing, it has its advantages and disadvantages. The most common benefit is cost savings, yet those savings are often not fully achieved. There are challenges with offshoring too. Language and cultural differences are just two we often hear about. But these challenges can be managed. This session will offer some perspectives on these potential pro’s and con’s and how to manage them. Seasoned industry leader Catherine Veinbachs, who has direct experience with offshoring, is sure to offer some new and interesting insights on this very dynamic topic. Presenter: Catherine Veinbachs, Practice Partner, Wipro Consulting Services, Wipro Technologies

Presenters: Deb Maher, Senior Director of HRIS and Shared Services, DeVry Inc. Cary Schuler, CEO, cfactor Works Inc.

Session #196 From Paper to Portal – the Realistic Story

Session #153 Direct, Collect, and Affect – One Technique to Produce Effective Metrics

Disconnected population. Three shifts. Changing regulatory environment. Desire to curtail spending. These familiar ingredients are all present in Memorial Hermann’s story of change from a paper-intensive communication channel to a dynamic online portal. With a roaring success not only on reducing paper but on deflecting service center calls, Cindy Rippel and Chris Keys will share some of the design ideas, stakeholder buy-in, implementation plan and content lifecycle that went into the launch of the new HR portal. Memorial Hermann’s vision is to grow from here, establishing the portal as the nerve center of all HR communications.

HRIS departments are often confronted by business and HR leaders who are in desperate need of metrics data. Unfortunately, they don’t always know what they really want. Requests for headcount and turnover are common, but these numbers rarely have concrete uses. Steve Secora will give attendees a tool to help them work with leaders to develop and use metrics that can be used effectively for decision support and to affect change.

Presenters: Cindy Rippel, Director of Benefits and Wellness, Memorial Hermann Chris Keys, Americas Technology Leader, Towers Watson

Presenter: Steve Secora, HRIP, Senior HRIS Manager, International Game Technology

Tuesday, June 4, 2013 Session #106 How to Avoid Crappy HR Software Contracts

4:00pm – 5:00pM Session #144 Going Global With Your SaaS HCM

In this case study, Jim Pettit and Janae Johnson will share lessons learned from CareFusion’s global deployment of a SaaS HCM which converted employees and contingent workers from local legacy systems in 28 countries onto the corporate SaaS HCM. Session attendees will have the opportunity to learn best practices and avoid potential potholes based on CareFusion’s global deployment journey – all done while maintaining an in production SaaS HCM system. Topics covered will include: data conversion while in production, manager and employee adoption across numerous time zones, cultures and languages, and managing a diverse global project team.

The session will explore how to negotiate your next HR software contract. You’ve done the easy work... you’ve selected the “right” application. Now the hard work begins. You don’t want to be a guinea pig. You want to manage risk for your firm. You want to create a bulletproof contract that protects all of your interests. Truth is, negotiating software contracts isn’t something you do every single day and the vendor community isn’t going to teach you. Attend the session and have a fierce discussion about how you can come out on top in your next negotiation. Presenter: William Tincup, CNM, SPHR, CEO, Tincup & Co.

Presenters: Janae Johnson, HR CPI Project Manager, CareFusion Jim Pettit, HRIP, Senior Liaison, HR Global Programs, Technology and Services, CareFusion

At OHL, one of the world’s largest third-party logistics providers, employee performance and development is a day-to-day priority, and is strategically supported through the company’s Talent Management system using modules to support job description creation, performance, learning, and succession planning. But this wasn’t always the case. In 2011, after recognizing its legacy system wasn’t intuitive enough to drive its talent management strategy, OHL migrated to a new system. In this case study presentation, learn the steps OHL took to replace its legacy system and the key factors your organization should consider when evaluating, selecting and migrating to a new Talent Management system.

Session #195 Workforce 2020 – HR’s Y2K All Over Again

We are living with a workforce that in the next 3 years will be made up of over 50% millennials. The fact that this workforce hasn’t grown up with pay phones, telephone books or employee handbooks changes the lens in which they enter the workforce and therefore the way we communicate with them must change as well. Workforce 2020 is more collaborative, more social, more connected, more mobile and should be more engaged. But we are in great danger of killing off possibly the most promising workforce ever by leveraging old technology, old processes and old thinking. Our time is now to model the future towards their thinking. Can we do it? Are you ready?

Presenter: Tia Smith, Manager, Learning and Organizational Development, OHL

Session #170 Human Resource Service Delivery Transformation at the State of Utah

10:45am – 11:45aM Presenter: Dwane Lay, SPHR, Six Sigma Black Belt, Head of HR Process Design, Dovetail Software

Session #179 Using Social Networking Analysis to Improve Employee Engagement and Productivity at Barclays Capital

Many organizations fail to get the most out of their HR systems. While the system may work it’s clear there is significant room for improvement. Most blame the software. However, in many cases, the problem is the result of a flawed implementation and organization changes after the implementation. The reality is the software you already own has functionality that is not being used, is being misused and/or is not appropriately married to your processes. This presentation will discuss why your inefficiencies exist and what can be done to resolve them.

It’s time to update traditional Talent Management systems with an innovative approach built for the next generation workforce. Social network analysis aggregates the knowledge and insights of the entire workforce to highlight critical employees that others go to for knowledge, innovation, mentoring, trust, or influence. The output provides actionable, quantitative data to help business leaders make the right people moves and organizational adjustments to gain the greatest productivity and effectiveness. Barclays Capital successfully deployed social network analysis within one of its recently restructured global operations divisions. Learn how the management team used the resulting data to increase productivity, engagement and retention, while scoring the highest rating on their company-wide employee satisfaction survey.

Presenter: Tom Sonde, Principal, SilverRoad Solutions

Session #126 What to Expect When You’re Expecting an HR Shared Services Center: The First 6 Months

So when it came to establishing a brand new HR Shared Services model to service 18,000 lives – with half of the workforce unionized and in a tough regulatory environment – they put their superior project management skills to the test. Session #203 Building Your HRIT Roadmap: What Matters?

Presenter: Karen Francks, SPHR, Manager, HR Services, Pepco Holdings

From this first annual HRIT Roadmap Survey, learn how top organizations are managing the supply and demand of HRIT from a technical, skills, and strategic perspective and how they make important HR technology decisions – including areas such as prioritization, integration of disparate systems, governance, workforce analytics, HRIT workforce planning – just to name a few. Kristie Evans and Richard Johnson will reveal the decision making process used and factors and insights driving the development of strategic HRIT roadmaps.

Session #141 The Black Hole of Adoption: Why HR Tech Implementations Fail

With the great expense that is poured into developing and acquiring technology, HR departments have repeatedly found themselves bemoaning poor adoption and usage numbers. More vexing still are the stories of other organizations that have implemented identical platforms, but with much different outcomes. The message, then, is that adoption and implementation are far less about the technology than the people, the process, and understanding of your own organization. In this session, we will review the most common reasons implementations fail, and simple steps technology owners can take to support early adoption and long term usage.

Presenters: Kristie Evans, CEO, HR Logistics Richard Johnson, PhD, HRIP, Associate Professor, School of Business University of Albany, SUNY

Badges and Tickets

Badges and tickets will be issued upon your arrival to the conference. Please bring a copy of your confirmation with you to expedite pick-up.

Confirmation and Changes

All paid registrations will be confirmed via e-mail within three business days after the payment is processed. If you do not provide an e-mail address, your confirmation will be mailed and will take longer to get to you. Changes to original registration information (e.g., job title) must be submitted in writing by fax or mail and are best accomplished prior to your arrival. If you do not receive a confirmation within 10-15 days of submitting your registration, you may contact the Registration Center at [email protected].

Substitution/Cancellation Policy

All registration refund requests must be in writing to [email protected]. If you received membership with your registration fee, IHRIM will retain the membership fees and refund the remainder based on the following cancellation schedule. Cancellations received in writing: • By February 22, 2013 will be refunded less a $200 administrative fee • Between February 23, 2013 and April 26, 2013 will be refunded at 50% of your registration and course fees • Cancellations received on or after April 27, 2013 are nonrefundable

Team/Group Discount

Register four (4) or more people from your organization at either the full member or non-member conference rate and receive $100 off each registration. All registrants must be with the same company and must register with payment at the same time. (This discount is not applicable to Special Membership Fee, Student/Faculty, One-Day Conference, Exposition Only, Guest or Pre-Conference Course registrants).

All approved refunds will be issued after the conference to the issuer of the original payment. Substitutions are allowed at the appropriate rates and must be submitted in writing to [email protected]. IHRIM highly recommends sending a replacement if you have to cancel after April 26, 2013 to avoid the loss of your investment. Approved refunds may be applied to other IHRIM events on request.

This discount is only available by fax and cannot be done online. Please fax your group’s forms together to 972-395-1463. All forms must be submitted with full payment as a group to be eligible for the discount.
