ABOUT THE WINSTON-SALEM COMMUNITY BAND The Winston-Salem Community Band was organized in March 1977. The purpose of the organization is to give amateur and semi-professional musicians an opportunity to continue using skills developed while playing in high school and college bands. Personnel of this ensemble is as varied as the music it performs. Entrance into the band is not based on audition but primarily on interest and dedication. Rehearsals are on Monday 7-9 pm at the Fries Memorial Moravian Church, 251 Hawthorne Rd. The repertoire is varied, featuring currently popular tunes, music from Broadway musicals, novelties, orchestral transcriptions, marches and fine literature written for the concert band. Annual concerts consist of a concert in the Fall, a Thanksgiving concert, Christmas concert, two Winter concerts and five outdoor programs given at Miller Park Amphitheater. In case of rain, the outdoor concerts will be held in the Miller Park Recreation Center. Fall and Winter concerts usually consist of more serious concert band literature. The outdoor concerts are light, easy listening music. On occasion, the band features soloists from within the group. The Winston-Salem Community Band is sponsored by the Special Populations Unit of the Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks Department. Music Director/Conductor Robert Clark, (336) 993-2325
