Head coach enters his 10th ForChuck use onPriore red ms:unifor season at the helm of the Seawolves football program, and in 2015 his young team are poised to make a run at the Colonial Athletic Association title. Stony Brook’s youthful spring roster will feature 15 true freshmen and 16 redshirt freshmen. Priore’s experienced team has 23 players that started at least one game during the 2014 campaign, including 13 on the defensive side of the ball and 10 offensive players. OFFENSE The Seawolves’ “very young offensive team” lost five starters from the 2014 campaign, including three offensive linemen, but Stony Brook does return two from the line that started all 12 games in 2014. Sophomore Timon Parris (Floral Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Armani Garrick (Brooklyn, N.Y.) anchored the left side of the line last season. Other returning linemen that will have a chance to compete for time are seniors Jerry Hubshman (Dunmore, Pa.) and Karim Mohamed (Lawrence, N.Y.). Each started one game for the Seawolves in 2014. In addition, junior Mike White (East Islip, N.Y.), who will miss the spring due to injury, and redshirt freshmen Bryce Hudak (Bethlehem, Pa.) and Jakob Wolfe (Laguna Hills, Calif.) return. The Seawolves return quarterback Conor Bednarski (South Pasadena, Calif.), who started eight games under center in 2014 for Stony Brook. Bednarski threw for 1,327 yards and nine touchdowns, while completing 52.9 percent of his passes. Bednarski will not participate in spring drills while recovering from offseason surgery so senior Carlos Hernandez (Morena Valley, Calif.) and redshirt freshmen Joe Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Pat Irwin (Lemont, Pa.) will all get more reps during the spring. Also back is Stony Brook’s top rusher in junior tailback Stacey Bedell (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) who averaged 5.3 yards per carry last season on his way to 1,070 yards and nine touchdowns. He will be joined in the backfield by junior Tyler Fredericks (Lawrence, N.Y.), sophomores Anthony Anderson (Commack, N.Y.). and Donald Liotine (Medford, N.Y.). The Seawolves also return a big part of their rushing success in senior fullback Chris Makulik (Medford, N.Y.). He and redshirt freshman Cal Daniels (Bethel, Conn.), who made

the move from TE to FB this spring, will compete for time. Stony Brook will have to replace the top two pass catchers from a season ago, but does return sophomore Donavin Washington (Glendora, Calif.), who pulled down 39 receptions for 332 yards during his true freshman season in 2014. Other members of the receiving corps that caught at least one pass last season are junior Pat D’Amato (Wethersfield, Conn.) and sophomore Julius Wingate (Englewood, N.J.). Sophomore newcomer Ray Bolden (Euless, Texas) is competing this spring as well. The Seawolves lost NFL prospect Will Tye at the tight end position, but return sophomores Dennis Lestange (Smithtown, N.Y.) and P.J. Edwards (West Hartford, Conn.). Priore is also moving Connor Davis (Fallston, Md.) back over to the offensive side of the ball. Davis started two games on the defensive line last year before suffering a season-ending injury.

DEFENSE Defense was what the Seawolves hung their hat on in 2014 and with 14 players that started at least one game returning from the squad that allowed just 15.3 points per game, Priore and his staff should feel really good about more success of the defensive side of the ball. Stony Brook will be led by the returning front six. The Seawolves bring back nine players that made starts last season on either the line or at linebacker.

Three of the top eight tacklers from 2014 graduated from the secondary, but the Seawolves do bring back five players with starting experience, including S Naim Cheeseboro (King of Prussia, Pa.) whose 76 tackles were the second most on the team a season ago. Joining Cheeseboro at the safety position are juniors Jaheem Woods (Neptune, N.J.) and Kye Morgan (Somerset, N.J.) and sophomore Reggie Allen (Frostproof, Fla.). Woods will miss the spring with an injury, giving more reps

Sophomore Ousmane Camara (93) and senior Victor Ochi (91)

The defensive line is where the Seawolves might be the strongest with both talent and depth. Senior All-CAA performer Victor Ochi (Valley Stream, N.Y.) collected a team-best 11 sacks and 16.5 tackles-for-loss in 11 games last season, but will miss the spring due to injury. Back to complement Ochi on the line are senior Dante Allen (Huntington, N.Y.), junior Aaron Thompson (Deer Park, N.Y.) and sophomores Ousmane Camara (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Allen Singleton (Humble, Texas) and James Mangineli (Selden, N.Y.). Making the move from LB to the line this spring are sophomores Dakota Everett (Effort, Pa.), John Haggart (Sayville, N.Y.) and Humphrey Anuh (Columbia, Md.). Also moving from TE to the line this spring is redshirt freshman Josh Valentin (Bay Shore, N.Y.). The Seawolves also will be strong at the linebacker position. Seniors Rahim Cassell (Lakewood, Calif.), Julian Quintin (East Brunswick, N.J.) and Jeremy Leggiero (Bohemia, N.Y.) anchor that corps. Cassell started all 12 games in 2014, while Quintin and Leggiero each recorded over 60 tackles a year ago. Also returning from last season are redshirt freshmen Shayne Lawless (Moorestown, N.J.), Noah McGinty (Carlsbad, Calif.). Priore and the staff will have some vacancies in the defensive backfield to fill in 2015.

to Allen and Morgan. The Seawolves cornerbacks feature sophomores Travon Reid-Segure (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Marvin Hart (Minneola, Fla.) and Quinton Littlejohn (Gaithersburg, Md.) as well as sophomore Darin Peart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman Tadarrian Luster (Cedar Hill, Texas). Sophomore Tyrice Beverette (Lakewood, Calif.) and redshirt freshman Jake Carlock (Babylon, N.Y.) will compete for Stony Brook’s rover position that was vacated by graduate Christian Ricard. SPECIAL TEAMS Five specialists return from last year’s squad, including junior place kicker Przemyslaw Popek (Yonkers, N.Y.), who was fiveof-seven in field goals and 19-of-22 in extra points in 2014. Priore will have to find a new punter after the graduation of Luke Allen, but sophomore James Wollweber (Merrick, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman Marc Nolan (Woodstock, Ga.) will compete for the duties. Nolan will be the holder and junior Kevin Fennell (Randolph, N.J.) will be the snapper for both punts and kicks. Sophomores Marvin Hart (Minneola, Fla.) and Donavin Washington (Glendora, Calif.) are back to return kickoffs and punts.
