2016-17 SCOUT CAMP-IN in the Kirby Science Discovery Center

General Information and Frequently Asked Questions Registration •

Registration opens September 2.

Registration is limited. Our camp-ins often sell out, so we encourage early registration.

Register as a troop/pack or individual scout. If registering for a pack/troop the scouts’ two deep policy applies.

The adult who registers scout(s) will receive a confirmation email two weeks prior to event. The adult is responsible for returning Camp Roster and forwarding Personal Data and Emergency Info Sheet to other scout parents.

CANCELLATION POLICY | The Washington Pavilion reserves the right to cancel any program if minimum enrollment is not reached, in which case full refunds will be made to participants. Partial refunds will be issued to participants who cancel a minimum of 14 days prior to the camp-in. A processing fee of $10 will be kept on all cancellations initiated by the participants. No refunds will be issued for any cancellations made within 14 days of the camp-in.

General Information

PARKING | You may park in the parking ramp across the street and to the east from the Wells Fargo CineDome. Metered parking is

available on the west, north and east sides of the Washington Pavilion. Street parking is free after 5 p.m. on weekdays and ramp parking is free after 6 p.m. weekdays and all the time on weekends.

CHECK IN INFORMATION/EVENT AGENDA | See sample schedule on the flier. Detailed agendas will be distributed at check-in. INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY | If Sioux Falls Public Schools are closed due to weather, the Washington Pavilion will also be closed and the camp-in will be cancelled. Full refunds will be made to all participants if the Washington Pavilion initiates the cancellation.

PHOTOGRAPHY/INTERVIEWS | The Washington Pavilion uses photographs and interviews of participants for future publications, promotional materials or educational materials, unless parents indicate otherwise.

BADGES/PATCHES | Each pack or troop is responsible for purchasing the scout badges or patches earned by the scouts. They are not provided as part of the camp-in. Washington Pavilion badges are provided for each scout and chaperone.

What Should I Bring?

Food Included:

Sleeping bag or bedding and pillow. Many find an air mattress to be essential.

Personal items, such as comb, toothbrush, deodorant, sleeping clothes, etc.

pizza, chicken fries, dessert pizza

We encourage scouts to wear their uniform or scout shirt.

SNACK: water, popcorn

A few dollars for the Prairie Storm tornado simulator or Discovery Store (optional).

BREAKFAST: coffee, apple juice, orange

Camp-in Guidelines

DINNER: lemonade, water, carrots,

juice, oatmeal, milk, cereal, apple slices

PLEASE LEAVE CANDY AND GUM AT HOME OR IN THE CAR. We do not allow candy and gum in the Kirby Science Discovery Center. You will learn about where you can have food and drink during orientation.

WE ARE A “NO SMOKING” FACILITY. Adults may inquire about a place to smoke on the evening of the program if necessary. WE RESPECT LEADERS/CHAPERONES AND DEFER TO THEM FOR DISCIPLINE. Leaders should always know where their campers are and vice versa. We ask that chaperones and campers stay together as much as possible.

LEAVE “CAMP” LIKE YOU FOUND IT! We request everyone’s assistance in setting a great example! Please clean up after yourselves as much as possible, and leave exhibits, project stations and your “campsite” in the best condition possible.

Where Do I Sleep? •

You may set up camp on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of the Kirby Science Discovery Center unless otherwise instructed.

Sleeping is not allowed inside exhibits, traveling exhibitions, in stairwells, main lobbies or other areas of the Washington Pavilion.

There is no bathroom on the 4th floor.

Lights out means all quiet. We know that not all campers will be ready for bed at the designated time. We rely on chaperones to enforce “lights out” with their respective campers and we ask that groups be mindful of others who are camped near them.
