2016 Gallup Survey Overview • No cost to administer the web based survey • Available to American students in grades 5 to 12 • 2,776 NAPLS students participated in October, 2016 • Over 3,300 schools and 900,000 students participated • Gallup provides district and school results compared to national sample

2016 Gallup Survey Overview • The Gallup Student Survey included 24 questions separated into four categories. Each question is rated on a 1 to 5 scale, with 1 being Strongly Disagree and 5 being Strongly Agree

Next Steps ● 2016 Survey Results establish baseline for future years ● Gallup resources and tools being used to allow for comparison of NAPLS data to national data ● Student survey results are being disseminated and unpacked by the administration, teachers, and staff to create understanding of student perceptions ● Based upon the results, action plans will be created for each school in the spirit of continuous improvement

Continuous Improvement Goals Benchmark 1: Increase Achievement ●

Increase the district performance index as compared to all Ohio school districts on the Local Report Card from #64 (2015-16 ranking, top 11%) to #54 (2016-17 ranking, top 9%) or better.

Third Grade Reading Guarantee Overview • The required Ohio Third Grade English Language Arts

(ELA) Test was administered in early November • Three sections: Non-Fiction Reading, Fiction Reading, and Writing • The Fall ELA Test is graded using END of third grade literacy expectations

• The two reading sections are graded to determine if the student met the Ohio Third Grade Reading Guarantee score required by ODE for promotion to 4th grade • In addition to the Ohio ELA Test, the MAP Reading Test is also an approved assessment for the Third Grade Reading Guarantee

Fall 2015 (52% to 64%) • Our greatest increase was in Writing, where 85% of our students scored At or Above Proficient compared to 63% in Fall 2015 • 92% of our 3rd grade students are not at risk for retention based on the Third Grade Reading Guarantee criteria

Ohio’s Performance Index for this fall administration was stagnant • Our projected “K-3 Literacy” grade for the 2-5/2-8 is a “B” today and remains subject to improvement based upon the spring administration

Next Steps: Third Grade Reading Guarantee ● Preparing results to send to parents ● Data analysis and planning with 3rd grade teachers ● Any student with an overall score Below Proficient will receive a Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plan (RIMP) as required by law ● Any student at-risk for retention who is not already receiving extra reading support will begin receiving it immediately with continuous progress monitoring ● 3rd graders will retake the assessment in March and April to measure continued growth or earn the required score for promotion to 4th grade, if not already achieved
