C ompany P rofile TAMKO ® Building Products, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of residential and commercial roofing products, decking and railing products, waterproofing and cements and coatings. With more than 73 years in the industry, TAMKO’s success is a direct result of teamwork and enduring relationships with customers, suppliers and employees.

E.L. Craig

The company continues to be family-owned and operated with current management led by the third generation of the company’s founder, preserving the same values and principles of years past.

History and Philosophy TAMKO began in 1944 in a streetcar barn in Joplin, Missouri. TAMKO’s philosophy is simple – work hard, do your best, be fair and honest, and believe in those around you. It was on that foundation that E.L. Craig created the TAMKO line of roofing products. In 1960, under the leadership of E.L. Craig’s son-in-law, J.P. Humphreys, TAMKO became a national leader in the industry as the company expanded outside Joplin to facilities in Phillipsburg, Kansas; Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Knoxville, Tennessee; Frederick, Maryland and Dallas, Texas. Under the leadership of its third-generation member, David Humphreys, TAMKO has expanded production capabilities in Green Cove Springs, Florida, with roofing products and asphalt cements and coatings; in Ennis, Texas, with additional glass mat production; in Columbus, Kansas, with production of polyester mat, cements and coatings, and waterproofing; and made numerous state-of-the-art production line upgrades and additions for the production of Heritage® laminated shingles, the cornerstone of TAMKO’s residential roofing product line. Beginning in 1999, TAMKO entered the composite decking business with the first of many expansions in facilities in Lamar, Missouri.

M essage from the P resident & CEO At TAMKO, we seek to operate with integrity, working to create a corporate culture that cares about each other and our community. This report contains examples of TAMKO’s commitment to the communities in which we operate through various charitable investments by the company, as well as by our employees’ volunteer efforts giving their own time in their communities. Though TAMKO strives for a wide impact, the values we hold often lead us to patterns of support. We aim to benefit our community in a way that reflects TAMKO’s vision, philosophy and values, and as such, our contributions focus especially on our youth, education, local hospitals, first responders and veterans. TAMKO is dedicated to ensuring our youth have the opportunity to grow, learn, and compete. Quality educational opportunities and availability are crucial to any community, as education is the main building block for civilized society and long-term prosperity for youth and adults alike. TAMKO endeavors to serve as an educational benefactor through funding a wide variety of student projects and travel to competitions and learning opportunities, public and private school building projects, and academic events and organizations. TAMKO always has, and always will, express our appreciation for all those who put their lives on the line for others, many of whom are members of our TAMKO employee team. These include first responders, law enforcement, active and retired military service members and everyday heroes. TAMKO so honors and values the character and skills military veterans possess, that veterans make-up more than 10 percent of TAMKO’s total workforce nationwide and an even larger percentage of our leadership team. TAMKO’s support extends into transporting wounded veterans for treatment on our corporate aircraft, and sponsoring a variety of veteran-focused events and programs. Here at TAMKO, we feel a personal sense of duty and responsibility to not only provide an unrivaled working experience, but also to do what we can to help enhance the life of our communities as we have always valued the people who make up our communities.

Joplin-Area Spelling Bee Each spring, hundreds of Joplin-area elementary students pore over lists of obscure spelling words, hoping to make it to the TAMKO-sponsored annual Joplin Globe Spelling Bee. Around 100 of those students, from both public and private schools in the area, make it to the annual event held at Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School (TJ), a Joplinarea 350 student PK-12 grade independent school founded in 1993 by TAMKO’s CEO David Humphreys, and his wife, Debra. In 2016, 78 students participated in the event with the winner from Joplin’s St. Mary’s Catholic School, fifth-grader Ava Glover, pictured right, with her winning word “caravel.” TAMKO sponsors the Spelling Bee each year with financial support and Spelling Bee t-shirts and gifts for each participant, as well as providing employee volunteers for the event.

This is not the first time TAMKO has donated to the team and TAMKO President and CEO David Humphreys said, “We think it’s important to support students in our area, especially when they reach this level of national competition. TAMKO has supported the JHS Constitution Team in the past and we are happy to continue that support this year.”

TAMKO was a Lion Pride sponsor for the 2016 Run With The Pride 5K race at Missouri Southern State University. The race raised funds for the university’s Kinesiology scholarships in honor of Lori Pflug, an MSSU graduate and athletic trainer who passed away from cancer in 2006.

North Middle School In 2016, TAMKO provided 600 students of North Middle School, a Joplin school less than 1 mile from the company’s headquarters, with school pride t-shirts to be worn during assemblies. Columbus, Kansas Fire Department

Education

TAMKO sponsored a School Fire Safety program for the schools in Columbus, Kansas, where the company has a manufacturing facility. The program reaches approximately 800 children each year in local schools, churches and day care centers. The fire safety program also features a fire prevention trailer that simulates a house fire through audio-video equipment and a smoke machine. Firefighters teach the children to stay low under the smoke, crawl out of the bedroom and through the house to the exit, as well as demonstrating household fire safety and prevention in the kitchen and bedroom areas of the trailer. Additionally, Steve Burton, a supervisor at TAMKO’s Columbus location, serves as Columbus Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief. He’s served the department since 1995, first as a volunteer, then as Assistant Fire Chief, and was named Firefighter of the Year in 2016.

TAMKO donated $25,000 to the Joplin-area Little League to renovate their field with lighting to enable the teams to play more evening games.

Youth sports

TAMKO “stepped up to the plate” in 2016 to support the Joplinarea Little League with a $25,000 donation to renovate its fields with new lighting so the group could have more than one team play each night. The Joplin-area recently combined its two Little League groups into one as the group said “the number of local children playing baseball continues to climb.” With that wonderful growth, comes growing pains, including some much needed renovations to the parks where the teams play their games.

We are proud to make this donation. Youth sports provide the kids in our community with a chance to have fun in a competitive atmosphere where they can learn about integrity, teamwork and personal responsibility – attributes important to their individual growth and the same attributes we hold in high esteem for members of our TAMKO team.

TAMKO’s shareholders have long-believed that youth sports help to instill the important values that TAMKO is founded on: teamwork, doing your best, and being fair and honest. This is true for both boys and girls. Unfortunately, in the United States, girls have 1.3 million fewer opportunities to play high school sports than boys have, and by age 14, girls are dropping out of sports at two times the rate of boys.* TAMKO is proud to support a number of youth sports groups that specifically cater to young women.

TAMKO sponsored the Diamond Divas Softball Program, providing equipment, uniforms and travel expenses .

In 2016, TAMKO was a Platinum Sponsor of the Midwest Diamond Divas Softball Program, helping to provide equipment, uniforms and travel to tournaments for girls “who wish to pursue their full potential as athletes in the sport of softball,” as stated in the program’s goals. TAMKO was also the 2016 Platinum Sponsor of the Webb City, Missouri MVP Strykers – a softball team made up of girls ages 12 to 14 from the Joplin and Webb City areas. The team competes against some of the finest fast pitch softball teams from across the Midwest. *According to the Women’s Sports Foundation

In 2016, TAMKO was the Platinum Sponsor for the 14U fast pitch Southwest Missouri Rage Softball Team, which provided the team’s uniforms, equipment and tournament fees. TAMKO also supported the Joplin Softball Little League team through a donation that enabled the group to travel to St. Louis, Missouri to compete in the state tournament. Joplin Little League Softball was established in 1975 with the purpose of enhancing the physical, social and educational well-being of children while creating quality playing opportunities for all. The program is designed and administrated so that every child, regardless of her abilities, has an opportunity to positively benefit from participation. TAMKO’s 2016 donation to the Joplin Softball Little League team enabled the team to travel and compete in a state tournament.

The donation made by TAMKO takes a huge financial burden off of the team and the parents. Since we are a local team, we very much appreciate TAMKO and their support.

Field of Honor In 2016, TAMKO’s Frederick, Maryland manufacturing facility honored past and present military service members thanks to a donation from TAMKO. The Field of Honor event was a display of 250 American flags standing in a solemn formation in front of the St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Church in Ijamsville, Maryland.

Above, TAMKO employee Anthony Margiotta, left, with retired Air Force Colonel John Fer, speaker at the TAMKOsponsored Field of Honor event (top and bottom).

The display and individual flags sponsored by community members served to honor past and present military service members and first responders. The event also featured a children’s patriotism poster contest and a speech by Retired Air Force Colonel John Fer, who was shot down on his 53rd mission over Vietnam, captured, and was in a prison camp for six years (two of those years with Senator and former Presidential Nominee John McCain). The Field of Honor was put on by a local Knights of Columbus group and all of the proceeds from the event supported Building Veterans, a Brunswick, Maryland nonprofit that helps veterans suffering from PTSD and substance abuse and provides job and life skills training.

Brothers Bound Matthew Ziegler, an Asphalt Technician at TAMKO’s Inwood, West Virginia asphalt processing facility, serves as president of the nonprofit group Brothers Bound, a motorcycle club that holds fundraisers to support local veterans, people in need and local children’s hospitals.

Run with the Heroes TAMKO was the food and beverage sponsor for the 2016 Run with the Heroes annual 5K race at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri.
