Welcome to the 2016 HENAAC Sponsorship Information Guide! On the pages to follow you’ll find details about the events and programs that make-up our 28th annual conference – and how you can participate! Our theme this year is “Excellence through Diversity,” and this is more than a mantra. It’s a commitment to a value system that we know makes our organizations – and our country – better, more competitive, more dynamic entities.

22 Best Practices at the henaac conference 23 registration form

Anna M. Park CEO, Great Minds in STEM

For nearly three decades, Great Minds in STEM has strived to create a conference for our sponsors and partners in the corporate, government, military, and academic sectors that reflects this value system and meets their recruiting, recognition, community outreach, and internal and external networking goals. This year we are honored to announce some exciting new partnerships that will make the 2016 HENAAC Conference more diverse, spirited, and innovative than ever!

I’m very proud to welcome both MAES, who will hold their annual Symposium at the HENAAC Conference, and CAHSI (the Computing Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institutions) who have chosen the Conference as the venue for their annual Summit as well. 2016 will be the pilot year for this collaboration, and we hope this experience will lead to a more robust partnership in 2017.

Great Minds in STEM has a long and proud history of collaboration with our sister STEM non-profit organizations, and many of their leaders have been recognized with professional awards at past HENAAC Conferences. This includes CAHSI’s very accomplished leader, Dr. Ann Q. Gates, winner of the 2015 HENAAC Award for Education, and MAES National President Will Davis, a Luminary Award recipient in 2009. Four additional MAES Board members have received HENAAC Awards, and seven current GMiS Board Members are former HENAAC Award winners themselves – as is Dr. Mary Fernandez, President of MentorNet, a Division of Great Minds in STEM, who received her HENAAC Award for Technical Achievement in 2011. This collection of outstanding STEM leaders – and by extension the organizations they represent – have contributed to the legacy of excellence at the HENAAC Conference. It is this commitment to STEM excellence that unites us, and we are honored to be collaborating to put that excellence to work in 2016! WHO ATTENDS THE HENAAC CONFERENCE? Partner Organizations for 2016

MAES - Latinos in science and Engineering MAES was founded in Los Angeles in 1974 by a group of professional engineers to advance and increase the number of Latinos in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by creating opportunities and fostering recognition through its professional, technical, and outreach activities. The MAES Familia is organized into Junior Chapters (High School), Student Chapters (University/College), and Professional Chapters from 4 regions. This network of chapters engages within their community as well as supporting several national events including MAES’ national and regional conferences and outreach programs including Science Extravaganza and the Science and Engineering Festivals. Our mission is “To promote, cultivate, and honor excellence in education and leadership among Latinos in Science and Engineering.” The MAES Symposium is the premier event for MAES, bringing together hundreds of students and professionals seeking employment and advancement opportunities. Now in its 42nd, year, the MAES Symposium is more than just a collection of workshops and meal functions; it’s your gateway to a network of professionals, students, and recruiters – the MAES Familia. This has never been more true than it is in 2016 with our ground-breaking partnership with Great Minds in STEM and the HENAAC Conference. For more information about MAES and the 2016 MAES Symposium, please visit us online at:

CAHSI - The Computing Alliance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions CAHSI is an inclusive consortium of individuals and organizations from public and private sectors committed to creating a unified voice and consolidating their strengths and resources to increase the number of Hispanics who pursue and complete degrees in computing areas. CAHSI was formed through funding by the National Science Foundation in 2006. Over the last ten years, CAHSI has made a difference in the number of students graduating in baccalaureate and advanced computing programs at HSIs in Texas, California, Florida, New Mexico, Illinois, and Puerto Rico. CAHSI has demonstrated collective impact through external evaluation, and it has emerged as a significant pipeline of new recruits into computing graduate studies and the professorate throughout this nation. By graduation, CAHSI students have participated in internships, research projects, and/or other opportunities that prepare them for professional positions in the computing workforce. The CAHSI Summit is an annual event that engages faculty, students, industry, and other collaborators in activities that build connections; disseminate effective and promising practices; prepare students for pursuing higher education and productive careers in computing; and promote conversations and actions that address advancement of Hispanics in computing.
