Registration begins on August 30, 2017 ***PLEASE REGISTER EARLY*** MULTI CHILD DISCOUNT: Resident families that have more than one child enrolling in the same program are entitled to a discount. $25.00 is discounted for each additional child participating in the same program. Multiple child discounts only apply for residents registered for the town summer camp, swim team and recreation basketball. NON-RESIDENT POLICY: Non-residents may register for programs beginning on September 6, 2017. All programs for non-residents are an additional $20.00; Swim Team non-resident fee is $25.00. PROGRAM REFUNDS: Refunds are granted automatically if a program is cancelled. All other refund requests must be made at least 5 days prior to the start of a program. Once a program/activity has started, no refunds will be granted unless unexpected medical complications (injury/illness) prohibit active participation in the program. A refund request form must be completed and submitted to the P&R Department as soon as possible as refunds are not able to be issued for classes missed before the form is received. If a refund is granted for a medical reason, the amount will be prorated to reflect the number of classes remaining. All refunds are subject to a $15.00 processing fee. CANCELLATIONS: If schools are canceled or closed, activities held in schools will be canceled. INSURANCE: The Town of Southbury does not provide accident insurance for any of its programs. All people participate at their own risk and should make certain that they have their own insurance. TRYOUTS FOR GRADES 5-8 Competitive travel teams will compete against local area towns (Fairfield County Basketball League). The season runs November through March. Schedules will be announced at a later date. It is recommended that players attend ALL tryout dates. You must be registered before tryout date. Location: Rochambeau Middle School Gym. Fee: $240. In the event that your child does not make the travel team, $135 will be returned to you and your child will be placed on a regular recreation team. KICK-OFF CLINIC An advanced development skills program is run by the Pomperaug Basketball Community and open to boys and girls of all levels. What a great way to shake off a summer of basketball rust as we head into the new basketball season! Both sessions are will be capped at 40 players - and last year's clinic sold out, so hurry! PANTHER AQUATIC CLUB TEAM
GENERAL INFORMATION FOR 2017 – 2018 Panther Aquatic Club is a member of Connecticut Swimming, Inc., the local governing body for competitive swimming in the state of Connecticut, and a Local Swimming Committee of USA Swimming. This competitive swim team is open to Southbury and Middlebury youngsters, who are 5 years old by September 1, 2017. Members will learn to swim competitively as participants of Panther Aquatic Club and will become members of USA Swimming. Swimmers will compete in the 2017-2018 Short Course season which runs from October 2017 through March 2018. For practice schedules, a mandatory Parent Meeting date, suit fitting and equipment sale, contacts and other important information go to www.pacswimming.com. NEW SWIMMER EVALUATION Team selection is based on the evaluation by a coach and by the size of the practice squad at the time of tryout. New swimmers interested in joining the team must attend one mandatory new swimmer evaluation day. PANTHER AQUATIC CLUB TEAM NEW SWIMMER OPEN REGISTRATION DAY (Proof of evaluation is necessary for registration) Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Southbury Parks & Recreation Offices, 10:00am - noon New swimmers should plan to attend Open Registration to have questions answered and to speak with coaches. Required registration forms will be available; however these forms may also be downloaded in advance on the team website (www.pacswimming.com). Suit fitting and equipment sale will also be at that time. RETURNING SWIMMER REGISTRATION August 1-31, 2017 via PAC website, www.pacswimming.com Returning swimmers should register via their account on the PAC website. All required information must be provided and payment of the 2017 USA Swimming Fee of $70 must be made online. Team coaching fees are payable to Southbury Parks & Rec and cannot be made through the PAC website. Payment may be made via the Parks & Rec website or mailed to the team registrar at 1026 Kettletown Road, Southbury, CT 06488. SQUADS SENIOR ELITE SQUAD: Experienced Swimmers with extensive competitive swim experience who have qualified for and/or are close to Age Group and/or Senior Championship Time Standards. This group is invitation only. Swimmers will need fins and a snorkel. CHARACTER STRIDES Character building and life skills are integrated with a running program to encourage girls to be strong both inside and out. During the course of the program, girls will become emotionally and physically prepared to participate in a local 5K race (run/walk) at the end of our session. HORSEBACK RIDING Brushy Hill Farm is a full service equestrian facility that takes pride in its warm and welcoming environment. Our lesson program caters to students of all levels and ages. The lessons are hand tailored for each rider’s needs to ensure that everyone achieves their goals and full potential. FUNDAMENTALS OF FIELD HOCKEY Whether you are an experienced player or new to the sport, please join us for 6 classes of field hockey. We welcome all athletes, girls and boys grades 1 – 5, to try or perfect their field hockey skills. Middle school students not on their field hockey teams are also welcomed. TAEKWON DO Participants learn age appropriate self-defense, sparring techniques, form safety awareness and much more through Taekwon Do, a Korean style of karate. ADULT ACTIVITIES
DOG OBEDIENCE 101 This class is for dogs that are 6 months old and over. Behavior issues covered: problem-solving, retaining, the different types of collars and their usage, and understanding of canine behavior. This class will cover the basic foundation skills of obedience (sit, down, stay, recall, etc.) along with the attention/focus drills using positive reinforcement. The participant with the dog must be 18 years or older. Participants will need a mat for the dogs if they are sensitive to hard and grassy surfaces, 6 ft. leash, flat or choke collar and clicker. TAI CHI Tai Chi and Chi Kung (Qigong) are centuries Old Chinese exercises practiced by millions world-wide today for health of body, mind and spirit.
