Phoenix Ti Amo Speciale Trilogy + Violent Vids + SOAPS Thursday, Sept 14th, 7:00 - 9:30pm @ Alamo Drafthouse Ritz Director: Warren Fu

Phoenix have shared Ti Amo Speciale, a short film directed by Warren Fu and centered around their new album Ti Amo. The 18-minute film takes place at a phony Italian show, seen in the “J-Boy” video. It opens with the “J-Boy” video, before staging an interview between the Italian hosts and the band, in which they discuss their Italian roots, how they learned to play music, and who’s the most romantic member of Phoenix. (The whole thing has a whiff of ironic charm, in case the grainy production values didn’t make it clear.) Then, we get a bare bones version of “Ti Amo” before “Goodbye Soleil” closes it out. This screening kicks off with Violent Vids (all the videos you need to fulfill your horror film cravings) + SOAPS (video drama for your mama), concluding with Phoenix.

You’ll know it when you see it. This category of experimentation pushes the boundaries of what you believed “weird” was and then steps over that line a few more times with aplomb. Best Violent Vid

Our Violent Vidz screening has gotten so good it needed it’s own award! These mini horror films manage to pack the suspense and gore of a full flick into under 5 minutes. Whether brooding music, fake blood baths, or stunning vescera, it’s all about the execution! (pun intended). Laugh, cry, or urinate yourself. You know funny when you find it and these knee-slappers are the best of the bunch. Best Director

The creative contribution and input of the director to the video should ultimately shape the artistic statement. This might be seen in coordination of crew, guidance of performers or execution of concept and storytelling. Heavy-handed or creatively loose, the connection between a great director, their team and the talent is imperative for a successful shoot. Best Interactive

The ability to step into someone else’s shoes or look through someone else’s eyes is the true power of interactive content. Interactive music videos break the convention of creator and viewer - be it placing you on-stage for a performance or forcing you into a character’s virtual point of view. An exceptional interactive video should open your eyes to new possibilities and push you past the boundaries of passive consumption and into the embrace of the immersive. Your Ad Here Award (Best Music-Driven Commercial / Promotional Video)

After seeing so many directors and production houses crossing wires between commercial work and music videos, we thought it was time to award those that venture to make commercials cool again! Including festival lineup announcements, event recaps and good ole fashioned TV ads, these outstanding videos are music-driven and may be structured moreso like a music video. Yet, in the end, they still seek to sell you something. You just may not mind or even really notice. “For Every Occasion” Directed by Jonah Haber Big Daddy Kane & Lance Herbstrong “Ripped” Music Video Directed by Todd Johnston Saints of Valory “ESCAPADES” Directed by Brad Feeser
