Toss the Snow

Ongoing Opportunities

Develop strong muscles by shoveling the snow off a grateful senior citizen’s walkways and driveway. Adopt a yard until the weather warms. Shovel after each snowfall (1 inch or more) of an elderly resident in Minneapolis & Suburban Hennepin County. You’ll need to bring your own shovel or snow-blower but the resident will provide the warm smile. Work with a partner and you can take turns shoveling. Family teams and small groups welcome; youth must be 7 or older and supervised by an adult.

Volunteer Driver for Seniors

Fix It—Handyperson Help an elderly Minneapolis & Suburban Hennepin County resident stay in their home. Assist with MINOR REPAIRS to make certain that their home is safe, like plumbing and electrical. Individuals and teams welcome (over the age of 18).

Clean the House Help an elderly Minneapolis & Suburban Hennepin County resident maintain a tidy home. Visit twice per month to vacuum, dust, mop, sweep, clean the bathroom, and help with laundry. Perfect for individuals, teams, and families (kids age 12 or older when supervised by an adult). The resident will offer a happy smile and provide the supplies. Six month minimum commitment. Exact location TBD in Minneapolis & Hennepin County Suburbs, depends upon where the senior citizen resides.

Using your own car you help seniors in the West 7th neighborhood get to doctor’s appointments and other small errands.

Meals on Wheels Volunteers deliver noon meals to homebound elderly and disabled residents in Keystone’s service area. A car, valid driver’s license and current auto insurance are required. Volunteers may drive once a week, every other week, or once a month, depending on their availability. Volunteers may also help in the kitchen preparing the meals earlier in the morning.

Share a Smile Brighten the day of a senior citizen and have some fun. Hang out with an elder on an ongoing regular basis and do things that you both enjoy in Minneapolis & Suburban Hennepin County. Families welcome; youth must be age 12 or older and supervised by an adult.

Get some great exercise while helping to inform elders in Minneapolis & Suburban Hennepin County about the HOME Program. Drop off flyers at businesses during daylight hours, weekdays or weekends, on your own schedule. HOME will provide the supplies, and directions. No sales. Work with a partner or small group, youth over age 12 permitted with an adult.

Get a group together of co-workers, family or friends to make a meaningful impact on the life of an older homeowner in Dakota County. Help clear snow in driveway and sidewalk to make a safer winter for a senior.

Ongoing, 16+, Reoccurring groups accommodated Volunteers in our Culinary department play a vital role in the satisfaction of our residents. Volunteers help in dining rooms by serving residents beverages, getting refills, running food orders to residents, and busing tables.

General Store Attendant Every other Saturday, 11am-1pm. 16+ Our campus operates a General Store for the convenience of our residents. Volunteers run the store by helping with stocking, customer service, and operating the cash register.

One-on-One Visitor Flexible. Evening and weekends available. 18+ unless accompanied by adult. Groups can be accommodated. We are looking for individuals to come visit with our residents who may not receive many outside visitors. Visits are typically weekly and last anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on resident and number of residents visited.

Garden Club Member

Early Spring—Fall, Flexible Scheduling. 18+. Minors can volunteer with an adult. Volunteers needed for the planning and prep of the garden bed to planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting of a community garden with the help of our staff and residents. Vegetables and fruits grown are used by our culinary team with extras being made available to residents. Knowledge of gardening required. Caregiver Volunteer Co-Facilitator for Caregiver 2nd and 4th Tuesdays each month from 12:30 until 2:00 PM Professional experience in social work, counseling or healthcare or someone who has cared for loved one with dementia. Should be out of caregiving role for one year. Leadership experience in small groups helpful, not required. Donut Volunteer Wednesday mornings (flexible) Pick up and transport donated donuts/rolls from local bakery to the Roseville Area Senior Program (RASP) drop-in lounge to be used as refreshments. Call bakery between 8:00-9:00 A.M. & determine if bakery goods are available, and transport bakery items via volunteer's car to the senior center. Sweet rewards!

Advisory Council Member Ongoing Bi-monthly The Advisory Council consists of 10 members who live, work or attend school in the Roseville Area Schools' community. Council members represent various age groups, races and ethnicities, neighborhoods, organizations and agencies in the community. Responsibilities include: 1. Work to accomplish Roseville Area Senior Program (RASP) goals 2. Advise RASP staff regarding programs/services 3. Recommend RASP budget allocations 4. Be informed about RASP programs and services 5. Seek new ideas and different strategies from other communities 6. Promote awareness of RASP 7. Advocate for legislative and local support of RASP programs and services 8. GED Tutor (Minneapolis) The goal of the program is to help participants pass each of the parts of the GED exam so that they can receive their diploma. Volunteer will review key concepts with adult participants including those in English, math, social studies and science.

Mock Interviewer (St. Paul) Mock Interviewers will work with Goodwill/Easter Seals staff to provide valuable practice job interviews for participants in training classes, job development or work experience programs.

Mentor (St. Paul, Must be 21+) As part of our mission to eliminate barriers to work and independence, Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to share their time and talent as a volunteer mentor. Adopt A Home Unique opportunity for busy families to organize a family fun night with residents of a Hammer home. Volunteers can host family fun night at the Hammer home of your choice and convenience. A pizza/movie night party, a game night, an arts & crafts session are just a couple of suggestions to help build personal connections with adults with intellectual disabilities in your community. Your family can make a difference just by sharing your time.

Meals in the Home Meals in the Homes is an initiative geared toward volunteers who enjoy social cooking. We are inviting individuals, families, friends and organizations to help prepare dinner for intellectually disabled adults at one of Hammer residences once a month or more frequently if desired. The recipe and ingredients will be provided. Volunteers then stay and enjoy the meal with our folks! Come and make new friends and make a difference in your community.

Exercise/Wellness Coach Make the difference in your community and help an intellectually disabled adult achieve their fitness, nutrition and wellness goals. We are looking to recruit encouraging and wellness coaches who can participate in an exercise activity, cook a healthy meal together or participate in stress relieving activities like yoga or meditation. Wellness coaches may consider spending one to two hours per week with their fitness partner.

Direct Services Volunteer We are asking caring individuals to provide one-on-one companionship to an individual with developmental disabilities. You could make a huge difference in your community by providing support, guidance and friendship to an individual who shares similar interests. Meet with your individual as often as you'd like to do fun activities like movies, concerts, going out to eat, walks in the park, biking, musicals, music events, shopping, craft projects and sporting events or just hanging out. Location Varies Our social groups are a great way for teens and adults with developmental disabilities to get together out in the community and socialize! Activities vary each week, and some examples of activities include going out to eat, going to a movie, or having a cooking night.

Bowling Lane Assistant Saturdays, 9:15-11:30am or 11:45-2pm Jan 14th-March 11th. Saint Louis Park or Crystal Reach for Resources is seeking volunteers to help with our Adaptive Bowling league for adults with developmental disabilities. Volunteers will help set up teams on lanes and assist bowlers of all abilities.

Young Athletes Program Volunteer Tuesday evenings 6-7pm Jan 10th-Feb 14th. Brooklyn Center Young Athletes is an early introduction to sports for ages 2-7 using focused activities that target mental and physical growth. This is a unified program designed for children with or without disabilities. Come help facilitate fun activities get kids active!

Unified Floor Hockey Coach

Saturdays noon-1 Jan 21st-March 4th. Chaska Reach for Resources is seeking volunteers to help with our Unified Floor Hockey League for kids ages 5-10. This program joins children with and without disabilities on the same team. Volunteers will help facilitate the program and assist children of all abilities. It is a lot of fun!

Developmental Disabilities Job Coach (21+) Support adults with developmental disabilities at their places of employment through on-the-job training, monitoring, and coaching. (18+, accepts groups) Support artists and crafters who have intellectual and developmental disabilities as they create their works, prepare for and conduct sales of their works. Cook for Kids (Family friendly, 12+, 4-8 people)

Food Shelf

Purchase, prepare and share an evening meal with Jeremiah moms and their children after a long day of work and school and before they attend evening Life Skills classes. Volunteers serve 30-40 adults and kids. Cook for Kids takes place on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings during the academic year.

(14+. South St. Paul. Groups 2-8 accommodated) Neighbors serves on average 550 families per month through our emergency food shelf. Volunteers help accept, sort, and label donations and assist clients with choosing their food items.

Hospitality Volunteer (18+, individuals only) Be a welcoming presence at our main entrance and greet mothers and their children, guests, and volunteers as they come and go from the Jeremiah Campus. Answer incoming phone calls and assist with light administrative duties (such as data entry, copying, stapling, mailings, shredding, etc.). Daytime and evening opportunities available.

Naptime Helper (18+, individuals only) Provide support for our teachers by becoming a Naptime Helper. Once a month, Child Development teachers meet for an all staff meeting. Volunteers are needed to help put kids down for nap and monitor the rooms during naptime and help with snack when they wake up. Companion Volunteer-North Metro The companion volunteer works directly with patients and families by providing essential social and emotional support to patients and their families by being there to comfort, care, and listen. We have opportunities all over the Twin Cities, but our current highest need is the North Metro.

Vigil Volunteer-North Metro The vigil volunteer works directly with patients and families by providing specialized comfort and support tailored to each patient’s needs in their final days and hours. This may include reading, singing, or simply offering company to patients as they pass. We have opportunities all over the Twin Cities, but our current highest need is in the North Metro.

Nutrition Program Site Assistant

Food Shelf Volunteer

The site assistant attends a Nutrition Program site and assists with set up, serving, and clean up of the meals or snacks. Meal times vary from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the site. Meal set up is 15-30 minutes prior to serving time and clean up is 15-30 minutes after meal/snack time. The assistant helps site staff in the delivery of meals to all the youth present. Site assistants are trained to know appropriate serving requirements and food safety to ensure delivery of healthy and safe meals to all youth.

Tuesday 11am-2pm, Tuesday 5:30-8pm or Wednesday 9:30am-12:30pm Assist in sorting, packaging, loading groceries for our neighbors in need.

Mobile Food Shelf Volunteer

Wednesday 9:30am-1:30pm A Driver is needed to assist with loading and delivery of food to seniors at CDA Senior apartment buildings on Wednesday mornings. Must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver's license and DMV check-good driving record.

Monday-Friday/mornings & afternoons Forklift Driver to transport merchandise from warehouse to church. Must be 21 or older.

Food Packers During your packing session you will be participating in an assembly line process. With the help of volunteers, dry ingredients are poured into bags, the bags are weighed and sealed, then boxed and put onto pallets. If we have volunteers that are unable to stand for long periods of time, they are welcome to sit at tables and label bags. Your packing session includes a brief orientation and video followed by packing instructions. Your packing shift will conclude with a short closing. Homelessness Survey Volunteer At the end of January each year, Dakota County officials, along with others in the state, will count the number of people experiencing homelessness. Dakota County needs help surveying residents by phone or at sites such as food shelves and shelters. Keystone Community Services Ongoing Opportunities

Food Shelf Volunteer Volunteers sort donations, stock shelves and assist clients. Volunteers should be capable of lifting 20 pounds, and able to commit to one 3.5 hour volunteer shift per week. Shifts are from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Foodmobile Volunteer You can have a positive impact on hunger by volunteering with Keystone Community Services’ Foodmobile, which provides nutritious food to people who are unable to reliably access groceries. We are currently seeking both ongoing and sporadic individual volunteers to assist with Foodmobile grocery distributions at multiple locations in Ramsey County. Love to Cook? Provide Breakfast for Residents Give our shelter residents a great start to their day! We are seeking volunteer groups to purchase, prepare, and serve delicious breakfasts to the 40 residents of Our Saviour's Housing homeless shelter. You can serve whatever you would like. Popular meals include casseroles, breakfast burritos, pancakes, French toast, eggs and sausage, etc. Breakfast is served at 6:00 a.m. and volunteers are out the door by 7:00. Scheduling is flexible for both weekdays and weekends!

Pack Bag Lunches for Emergency Shelter! Help our 40 Emergency Shelter residents have a great day by providing them with a bag lunch! Because our Emergency Shelter is only open from 6pm to 7am each night and closed during the day for residents, we provide each resident with a bagged lunch to take with them as they leave in the morning. Help make this possible by purchasing and making simple sandwiches or entire bag lunches for residents to take with them when they leave the shelter during the day. You can make the sandwiches at your home, office, school, or place of worship, and then bring them to our facility in South Minneapolis.

Evening Shelter Aide

(18+) Help provide hospitality and hope to those most in need by volunteering in the Our Saviour's Housing Emergency Shelter. We open our doors to 40 homeless adults every night of the year. Join our work by serving as a Shelter Aide! You will assist with a variety of tasks to help us keep the shelter comfortable and running smoothly. Your work may include visiting with residents, assisting with dinner, answering the door and phone, doing laundry or light cleaning, working on clerical tasks, and other assorted activities.

Birthday Card Craft Project Help brighten the day for our Permanent Supportive Housing Residents on their birthdays! Each resident in our Permanent Supportive Housing Program have struggled with homelessness for years and are now finally settled into his or her very own apartment, which they are able to maintain with the support of Our Saviour's Housing Case Management. But Birthdays can often be difficult for many of our residents. You can help them have a good birthday by making handmade birthday cards! Be as creative or simple as you'd like; everything from simple messages to drawings is encouraged! Birthday cards can be made at your own location and brought to our Emergency Shelter.

More than 1,500 luminaries will line more than 2 miles of hiking and snowshoeing trails and nearly 4 miles of cross-country ski trails at the Trails by Candlelight event in Lebanon Hills Regional Park.
