TARGET AUDIENCE AND PURPOSE

DISCLOSURE STATEMENT

The purpose of this educational activity is to provide practical, case-based knowledge and skills to active and academic dermatologists, fellows and residents in training.

The Southern Regional AHEC adheres to ACCME Essential Areas and Policies regarding industry support of continuing medical education. Disclosure of faculty/planning committee members and commercial relationships will be made known at the activity. Speakers are also expected to openly disclose a discussion of any off-label, experimental, or investigational use of drugs or devices in their presentations.

Assess knowledge about biosimilars management. Describe skills for assertive communication. Discuss updates for 2018 for proper dermatology coding. Review the management of skin cancer by dermatologic surgery/Mohs micrographic surgery. Review recently published therapeutic breakthroughs in dermatology. Review some of the most important dermatology articles over the last decade. Discuss the appropriate use of biopsy for pigmented lesions. Review oral lesions as they relate to dermatologists. Assess skin signs of systemic disease.

AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM - 9.75 hours

CREDIT STATEMENT The Southern Regional AHEC designates this live activity for a maximum of 9.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ADDITIONAL CREDIT Other health professionals will receive Southern Regional AHEC CEU and/or contact hours and a certificate of attendance from an AMA PRA Category 1TM activity. These certificates are accepted by the NC boards for physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses. License requirements are subject to change. Southern Regional AHEC recommends that participants contact their licensing board with specific questions. Southern Regional AHEC will provide 1.0 Continuing Education Units (9.75 contact hours) to participants upon completion of this activity.

GLORIA GRAHAM LECTURE This year's Gloria Graham Lecture will be given by Bruce Thiers, MD, Professor and Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Thiers earned his undergraduate degree at Brooklyn College and his M.D. at SUNY/Buffalo, where he also completed his dermatology residency. Dr. Thiers serves as Editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and Consulting Editor of Dermatologic Clinics. He is a past VicePresident and member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology and serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Professors of Dermatology.

MEETING FEATURES

ACCOMMODATIONS

The Annual Meeting program features outstanding faculty who will address current topics of interest to the practicing dermatologist. The meeting also includes a welcome reception and daily breaks in a networking hub presenting products and services to help the dermatology practice. Saturday afternoon is free to enjoy the many pleasures of historic Charleston. The family-friendly Saturday heavy hors d'oeuvres reception with live musical entertainment will round out the day in the Riviera Theater, across the street from the hotel. Currently on the National Registry of Historic Places, the Riviera is an exquisite example of the romantic Art Deco style. Built circa 1939, the Riviera opened to great fanfare and was a place of significant gatherings and events for Charleston’s aristocracy. Today, this stunning landmark has been meticulously restored and preserved, including the original exterior, marquee, ticket booth, etched glasswork and stunning interior murals. Sunday includes presentations from the North Carolina dermatology residency programs and the final presentations. After the meeting on Sunday, residents and students are invited to lunch and a special session designed just for dermatologists in training. This comprehensive course will be part high-volume review of clinical and dermpath images chosen and discussed by Dirk Elston, MD, Chairman of Medical University of South Carolina’s Department of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, and part Transitioning from Residency, led by Kim Campbell, MA, who has consulted with hundreds of dermatologists over the past 15 years to help them obtain the tools they need to thrive. Attire for all functions is business casual.
