Services to students

Choosing the right course

East Riding College has qualified guidance officers to help you if you’re having difficulty identifying your career aims, understanding the different qualifications and levels, returning to study if you have been out of education for some time, or choosing the right course for you. Please call and ask to speak to one of our guidance staff who are available at all sites.

Exam dates

How to enrol You can enrol at our Beverley and Bridlington sites or by phone for some courses.

Where a course is marked (i), you will need a pre-arranged interview (either in person or by phone) with the tutor for this course. Call 0345 120 0044 and ask for learner services for more details. The government’s eligibility criteria for fee waivers and reductions are complex and are presented in a simplified form in this course guide. To avoid disappointment, please drop in to reception or call 0345 120 0044 to discuss an individual fee assessment and to discuss your eligibility. Please note: Fee exemptions are available for most courses, with some exceptions, such as NEBOSH and our short courses. These are marked “n/a” in the reduced fee column. Other terms, conditions and exemptions may apply. Where a course duration is listed as more than one year, the fee stated is for the first year of the course only. For example a two year course will require this year’s advertised fee plus a second fee payment at the start of the next academic year.

The examination dates and times are coordinated by the individual examination boards and not East Riding College. This may result in your exam being held on a different day and time from your normal class. You may therefore be expected to attend during the day, for example.

Learning support

A wide range of additional support is available: • Help with numeracy, literacy and study skills tailored to individual needs, to help learners successfully complete their course • Learning Resource Centres, providing a wide range of hard copy and e-learning resources, including PCs, laptops and tablets • Support for learners with disabilities, including specialist equipment. We can also meet a range of personal care needs • A welfare and confidential counselling service to support you if you have any worries Please let us know if you have a disability or learning difficulty so that we can discuss with you any support which you may need.

Refund policy

All fee refund requests need to be made in the first instance to learner services. Fees will only be refunded in specific circumstances. Call 0345 120 0044 for details of our refund policy, or visit the College website at www.eastridingcollege.ac.uk/about-us/the-college/policies

Advanced learner loans Fees in blue £2,995 mean that the course is eligible for an advanced learner loan. They work in the same way as higher education student loans, with low interest and reasonable repayment terms. This means:

• No fees whilst studying • Pay nothing back until you’re earning over 21k • Affordable repayment terms

And what’s more, people who progress from an Access to Higher Education Diploma course to complete a higher education programme can have their outstanding Advanced Learner Loan for the Access course written off.
