2018 WCHS SUMMER SCHOOL INFORMATION Dates: June 4th- June 22nd Times: 7:30 am- 12:30 pm Registration due May 11th, 2018 General Information  All courses except PE are taught in a virtual, computer-based setting with an instructor available. Online courses are completed using Apex, a web-based curriculum.  The fee for summer PE is $65. Online classes are offered at no charge.  Students may sign up for two online courses.  Initial summer school slots will be given based on a first come, first served basis.  For online classes, a rolling enrollment will be used to meet the needs of all students. As students complete courses, other students will be called from the waitlist. Even if you do not have an Apex license assigned to you for class on June 4, be ready to attend if a license becomes available. This may occur a day, a week or two weeks after summer school begins. If you are next on the waitlist and are not available to start, the next person on the list will be called.  Summer school classes are for incoming WCHS 9th graders (class of 2022) and current WCHS students. If space is available after initial enrollment date, students not currently enrolled at WCHS who reside in the school district may be eligible to attend classes.  Students that may play NCAA D I or D II college athletics should discuss with their counselor if APEX online courses are appropriate.  If the class needed is not offered through WCHS’s summer school program, please see your counselor for alternate options through Indiana Online Academy.  After the registration form is turned in, counselors will review to ensure appropriate class/classes are selected.  Bus transportation is not provided. Students may not arrive early or to remain on campus after class has ended. Students should not arrive at school earlier than 10 minutes prior to the start time. Students shall leave school grounds as soon as their class is over. Summer PE 1. Summer PE requires a $65 fee. Payment must accompany this registration form. Cash, Visa/MasterCard, or checks payable to Whiteland Community High School are accepted. 2. PE will be held at the WCHS main campus. 3. Students should bring a swimsuit and regular P.E. clothes for the 1st day of class. 4. Students are expected to attend daily. No more than 3 absences are allowed. (Students attending the 8th grade Washington DC trip can register for health in summer school rather than PE. A special summer school orientation will be held for students missing the 1st week of summer school.) 5. Class of 2022 athletes are strongly encouraged to take PE1 during the fall semester of grade 9 and PE2 credit via a sports waiver. 6. Students may sign up for health and summer PE. If interested in signing up for health, please read the info below. All Other WCHS Summer School Classes Information for all students 1. All students must attend orientation on June 4th at 7:30 am in the auditorium. 2. Students must pass the final exam with a score of at least 60% to receive credit for the course. Students are allowed two attempts to pass a final exam. Students will not be exempt from finals under any circumstances. Information for Credit Recovery students 1. Credit recovery student: a student that has taken the course in the traditional setting and not been successful. 2. Students enrolled in courses for credit recovery must attend each day of summer school from 7:30 am- 12:30 pm. After a 3rd day of absence, students will be removed from the course and his/her Apex license given to the next student on the waitlist. 3. If taking a class for credit recovery, students may test out of the class and receive credit by taking the final exam and receiving at least a C- (70%) prior to beginning the coursework. Students are only allowed one attempt at a test out. Information for Credit Advancement Students (govt, econ, health) 1. Credit advancement student: a student taking a course in summer school for the first time. 2. Students enrolled in courses for credit advancement are allowed to work from home after orientation. 3. If a student working from home is not making progress, the teacher will make contact. The student must respond within 24 hours. If class progress is rectified, students will be expected to attend summer school daily or be removed from the course. 4. If a student working from home needs help, teachers are available during the following times:  Student Last Names A-G: 7:30 am- 9:00 am  Student Last Names H-O: 9:15 am- 10:45 am  Student Last Names P-Z: 11:00 am- 12:30 pm 5. Credit advancement students will schedule the final exam with the teacher in the following time slots:  Student Last Names A-G: 7:30 am- 9:00 am  Student Last Names H-O: 9:15 am- 10:45 am  Student Last Names P-Z: 11:00 am- 12:30 pm
