THE WORLD OF BUNNIK TOURS Welcome to the world of Bunnik Tours! We’re a family company that’s passionate about travel, and we’d love to show you our Asia, the 'Bunnik Way'! In creating our holidays we have two very strong beliefs in mind. The first is that everything we do should, first and foremost, be about the customer experience. And second that tourism, when done properly, can be an incredible force for good. We therefore have a responsibility to benefit the communities we visit and not ruin the very thing we’re coming to see. With these guiding principles in mind we create small group tours that connect people, places and cultures. In doing so we help to break down barriers, create lifelong memories and, best of all, ensure that the benefits of tourism are enjoyed by all. Small group sizes ensure our tours are low impact but also make for a much better holiday experience for the simple fact that everything is easier with a small group - from getting off the bus to having more time with your guide. Our itineraries are carefully crafted to capture the essence of the countries we visit. We understand that sometimes the best holiday experiences are when you wander away from the group and make your own discoveries. For this reason our tours provide the perfect balance between organised sightseeing and free time for independent exploration. If you like the sound of our tours we’d love to welcome you to our world. Happy travels!

DIFFERENCE Maximum Group Size 20 Less time waiting for others, more time with your guide and room to spread out on the bus - smaller groups really do give you a better holiday experience.
No Hidden Extras Our tours include flights, all sightseeing, many meals and even taxes and tips where appropriate. Unlike other tour companies, our ‘optional extras’ are based on special-interest activities that don't always appeal to everyone, meaning they're truly optional.
Unique Itineraries Our itineraries are designed to really capture the essence of the places we visit - both on the tourist trail and off it. Multi-night stops, unique local experiences and free time combine to create amazing journeys.
Time for Independent Discovery Our tours have the right balance between organised sightseeing and free time to explore or relax.
Expert Guides Our local and national guides really are experts and will help you get the most from your holiday destination. They're succinct and engaging and will give you just the right amount of information.

Small Group Touring
SMALL GROUP TOURING
MAXIMUM GROUP SIZE
The benefits of group touring are well known. All the logistics and travel are taken care of, allowing you to sit back and enjoy every moment of your holiday. You’ll see more for your money and make great friends along the way. However there is one downside to traditional coach touring that nobody talks about. That downside is the practicality of travelling in a large group - the waiting for everybody to catch up or just get on or off the bus. The extra time taken to allocate hotel rooms, check in or order at a restaurant. Then there is being told where to sit on the bus and not getting the chance to have your questions answered because the guide is busy with everybody else. These issues exist on all large group tours, whether they are 3- or 5-star.
®
It is for this reason that Bunnik Tours pioneered the concept of small group touring. With a small group you still have all the benefits of a group tour but none of the irritations of travelling with a large group. Put simply, smaller groups make for a better holiday experience.
Meeting the locals at Jama Masjid Mosque, India
THE BUNNIK WAY Travelling the Bunnik Way means touring in a small group made up of like-minded people. People who want to connect with the places and cultures they visit. People who share a love and passion for this incredible planet and its inhabitants. With you in mind, our itineraries include a balance between: all the famous landmarks that you rightly expect to see on a tour unique local experiences that only small groups can access, and plenty of time for independent exploration and discovery We believe there is no better way to create lifelong memories and really get to the heart of all that a destination has to offer!
Small Group Touring

Just some of the reasons why Smaller is Better LESS TIME WAITING Getting on and off the coach, hotel check-ins, comfort stops, meals - with a smaller group everything is easier and quicker, giving you more time to enjoy your holiday.
GETTING OFF THE TOURIST TRAIL Large groups are restricted to places and experiences that can cater for large numbers. Small groups can get off the beaten track and really experience a destination.
MORE TIME WITH YOUR GUIDE Our low guest-to-guide ratio means you’ll have more one-on-one time to ask questions and take advantage of your guide’s expert local knowledge.
MORE SPACE ON THE COACH Our groups are small but our vehicles are not, so you’ll have plenty of room to spread out with ample spare seats.
MORE HOTEL CHOICE MORE FUN! Being in a small group means you get to know your fellow travellers. Many of our guests establish lasting friendships on our tours!
Big groups stay in the big hotel chains. We have the flexibility to choose from a wider range of accommodation based on factors such as character, service and location.
BETTER VIEWS Being in a small group means you'll get a better view of the places we visit. You won’t have to jostle with dozens of fellow travellers to get the best views and photo opportunities.
BEING A RESPONSIBLE TOURIST Bunnik Tours firmly believes that tourism can create understanding between cultures and generate economic and social benefits in the places we visit. Our small tour groups are lowimpact and don’t ruin the very places we go to see.
Minneriya National Park, Sri Lanka
RESPONSIBLE TOURISM Bunnik Tours firmly believes that tourism can create understanding between cultures and generate benefits in the places we visit. Our small groups are low-impact and don’t ruin the very places we go to see. We understand that a big part of tourism in Asia relates to the incredible wildlife that call the continent home, therefore the parks and orphanages we visit are specifically selected because animal welfare isn't compromised. We visit national parks where animals roam in their natural habitat, and adhere to any rules designed to protect the natural environment and prevent human/wildlife conflict. We don't condone the riding of elephants, or participating in shows where they are put in unnatural situations and made to perform human-like activities - so you can rest assured you won't find these experiences on a Bunnik Tour. And where we can, we visit conservation centres that place a big emphasis on securing the future of endangered species such as orangutans and giant pandas. Kyoto, Japan

Visiting local homes to eat or to view the way they carry out their daily life was just perfect and such a thrill. Overall my fondest memory will be of smiling people in a beautiful country. Sri Lanka should be called the land of smiles.” - Sandra Mullins (A Taste of Sri Lanka - June 2017)

SPECIAL LOCAL EXPERIENCES A Bunnik tour is not just about clocking up countries or ticking off major sights. Of course we’ll show you the famous attractions, but by staying an extra day here and there, and moving beyond the regular tourist areas, you’ll discover the real essence of the places we visit. Here are just some of the special experiences you can expect on a Bunnik tour: Travel to the lush tea-growing region of Nuwara Eliya by train, visiting a tea plantation factory to learn about Sri Lanka’s most famous export. (Sri Lankan Discovery) Meet a local palmist who will read the lines of your hand for indications about your personality and destiny, based on Indian astrology. (Colours of Rajasthan) Cruise on a traditional longboat to a longhouse and witness a cultural performance and blowpipe demonstration. (Discover Borneo & Brunei)
Cruise along the Mekong River in a traditional boat to where the borders of Laos, Thailand and Myanmar meet. (Thailand in Depth) Walk along the ‘Rail Tracks of Hanoi’ and explore a rarely seen side of Vietnam’s capital. We meet the locals and see how they have adapted to daily life along the rail tracks. (Included on all tours to Vietnam)
Discover the life of the Inthar people on Lake Inle during a homehosted meal. (Myanmar Discovery) Explore Zhujiajiao, an ancient water town dating back some 700 years, with traditional old bridges and small rivers. (China in Depth) Enjoy a variety of local activities including sake brewing & tasting, and a chance to dress in a kimono. Then witness a traditional dance performance by Maiko. (Japan Discovery) Maiko performance, Japan
Aarti ceremony in Varanasi, India
LEVEL OF FITNESS To get the most from your Bunnik tour you will need a good level of fitness and mobility and an open mind. Many of the best sights can only be accessed on foot. You should be able to walk at least 3.5km or for 2-3 hours unaided on uneven ground, climb several flights of stairs and be prepared to board small boats. You should also be able to carry your own bags as porter services may not always be available. Passengers who are 70 and over will be required to obtain a doctor’s clearance before travelling.

A Taste of Asia
A TASTE OF ASIA Tasting the flavours of different countries is one of our favourite things about travel. After all, it's not everyday you get to enjoy a Peking Duck banquet in Beijing, or prepare your own Vietnamese cold rolls with a chef in Hoi An. From traditional dinners in your Japanese ryokan, and meals with the locals in quaint villages, we place a big emphasis on special food experiences in Asia. Visit a traditional Sri Lankan village and be welcomed into a local home. Learn about daily life and traditional farming, and then feast on local delicacies! (Sri Lankan Discovery) Enjoy a hands-on cooking experience with the famous culinary team of the Heritance Kandalama and learn some tricks of the trade from the leading chefs. (Flavours of Sri Lanka) Visit a local market and interact with a local family during a traditional Indian cooking lesson, then join them for dinner. (Colours of Rajasthan) Tour a stunning 300-year-old Portuguese mansion and enjoy a decadent five-course lunch, inspired by the flavours of Portugal and India. (India in Depth) Dine on board a converted teak rice barge as it drifts down the Chao Phraya River and tributaries, enjoying the beautiful setting at dusk. (Thailand in Depth) Travel through Beijing's hutongs by rickshaw to explore a different side of the city. Then visit a local home to try some homemade dumplings. (China in Depth) Spend the night in an authentic ryokan guesthouse and enjoy a traditional Japanese dinner. (Included on all tours to Japan) Experience the local cuisine of Sendai at a special dinner and try the delicacy of gyutan (beef tongue). (Colours of Northern Japan) Learn to make Korea's national dish - the spicy-sour accompaniment, kimchi. (Included on all tours to South Korea)

How We Travel

HOW WE TRAVEL
SHINKANSEN Japan's speedy bullet train network is certainly something to write home about! We travel across the stunning Japanese countryside reaching speeds of up to 320 kilometres per hour. This incredible network transports a staggering number of passengers over 350 million people per year!
Like all tour companies we have clean, comfortable, airconditioned coaches. Our small group policy means there are always plenty of empty seats. Where we differ is that we offer much more than just coaches. We like to mix it up because we believe it makes for a better holiday. After all, anybody can give you a coach tour. For us it’s all about the experience!
SAMPAN BOAT
4WD SAFARI
There is no better way to experience life along the Mekong as you float along in a small sampan boat through the narrow canals while observing life along the riverbanks. Witness the locals go about their trade as they pass you by and enjoy the moments of serenity while surrounded by lush greenery along the riverbanks.
Hold on to your seat as we travel through some of Asia's most diverse national parks. We search for leopard, elephant, buffalo and black bear in Yala National Park and are on the lookout for the elusive Indian tiger in Ranthambore National Park.
Where We Stay
13
Traditional Vietnamese Cruise Vessel, Halong Bay
WHERE WE STAY Our small group sizes mean we can stay where the big groups can’t. Location, character and cleanliness beat bland chain hotels, bed factories and overpriced mini-bars every time.
JAPANESE RYOKAN
DESERT CAMP
GALLE FACE HOTEL
After the hustle and bustle of Tokyo we travel to Hakone and Mt Fuji to experience a more traditional side of Japanese life. Here we stay in old-style ryokan accommodation, have a chance to enjoy a hot springs bath and sample a delicious typical Japanese dinner.
Nestled in the mystical sand dunes of India's Thar Desert, Manvar Desert Camp is an oasis. The pristine beauty, the unbelievable silence and tranquility are truly awe-inspiring. From here, we head out to explore the sand dunes by camel. The everchanging landscape will enchant you.
As a beautiful end to our Sri Lanka tour, we stay at the iconic Galle Face Hotel, a true landmark in the city. Situated along the seafront, this luxurious colonial hotel embraces its rich history and legendary traditions to create the perfect heritage property. Spend the evening with a sundowner in the courtyard overlooking the sea.

Your Travel Documents Your documents, including itineraries and hotel lists, are prepared approximately three weeks before you depart. If you require your documentation earlier than this, please be sure to let us know. Tipping Made Easy Tipping is not a part of everyday Australian life, so many of us feel unsure about when or how much to tip. However, tipping is expected in many of the countries we visit and often makes up a large part of people’s wages, so it’s important to get it right. For this reason we have developed a ‘Tipping Made Easy’ program for selected destinations. This simple system sees us collect tips at the time of booking. We then pass these tips to our local staff and they take care of all the tipping. Easy! Please note, on tours where ‘Tipping Made Easy’ operates, it is compulsory for logistical reasons that all tour members participate.
