In February 2016, the County kicked off the public participation component of the comprehensive plan update process with six community visioning workshops and an online visioning survey. The result is a draft vision statement. In June the draft vision statement will be presented to the Planning Commission and the Board of County Commissioners for review and input. to provide input on the draft vision statement and the statement will be revised if necessary for inclusion in the draft Comprehensive Plan. The vision statement will be available on the County’s website and will be used throughout the comprehensive planning process to guide the development of the Plan, including updated goals and policies and implementing development regulations.

The County protects, conserves, and responsibly manages natural resources through education, coordination, facilitation, and long term planning.

What Elements are in the Current Comprehensive Plan?       

Planning for Regional Population Growth The County and the Kittitas County Conference of Governments (COG) are reviewing county-wide population growth projections developed by the State Office of Financial Management (OFM). Once a population projection scenario is selected, the growth will be allocated to the Urban Growth Areas (UGAs), including all local jurisdictions, and the remaining rural county lands.

Planning for population growth is a regional effort requiring coordination amongst all jurisdictions in Kittitas County.
