2courses: structure and tentative timetable (5.9.2017)

Two common courses of Master’s Programme in Water and Environmental Engineering (WAT) are: WAT-E1011 Water & Environment: https://mycourses.aalto.fi/course/view.php?id=18412 WAT-E1030 Computational Methods in Water and Env. Engineering: https://mycourses.aalto.fi/course/view.php?id=18413 The two courses are strongly complementary and structured around the same weekly themes: they should thus be done together during Period I and we call them simply as “2courses”. Large part of the learning activities takes place in groups: students are divided into the groups at the beginning of the course. WAT-E1010 is a 10 credit course that introduces the key themes and broader context related to water and environmental engineering. WAT-E1030 is a 5 credit course that focuses on the key computational methods and problem-solving approaches related to water and environmental engineering. Each of the seven weeks of 2courses introduced one key theme and one key method, as indicated in the timetable below. ASSIGNMENTS? 2courses include Contact Sessions as well as two types of assignments: Tasks (Context Task and Thematic Task) are related to WAT-E1011, and Weekly Exercises to WAT-E1030 course. Tasks are mainly done in groups or pairs, while Weekly Exercises are usually done individually. ASSESSMENT? Half of the grade for WAT-E1011 comes from the assessment of given assignments, while other half comes through self and peer assessment done in groups. Grade for WAT-E1030 is an average of the grades for Weekly Exercises. Next pages show the tentative weekly timetable for 2courses. Kindly note that the changes are, however, possible. Also note that all activities are not contact sessions, but include also time reserved for individual and group work.
