After the assemblies last week, 5 ways to mental wellbeing

we want you to think about what you can do to ensure your own mental wellbeing. Let’s remind ourselves of the 5 different strands we looked at.

CONNECT with the people around you. With family, friends and neighbours. At home, school, work or in the local community.

Connecting with other people ‘enriches’ us. -Make time each day to speak FACE-TO-FACE …talk, listen, ask, respect, care, smile, share.

-Arrange to spend time with family. -Visit a friend or family member who needs support or company – listen to them.

-Be brave - speak to someone new today. -Volunteer to help in a community group.

healthy body = healthy mind Exercising makes you feel good. -Walk, run, cycle, dance, play… whatever suits your fitness level.

-Go for a brisk walk …to and from school?

-keep fit together, kick about, cheerleading... -Breakfast and long lasting carbs -Take the stairs not the escalators. -Fizzy drinks – the highs and lows – sugar facts

Look around, look at Being aware of the world around you and how it makes you feel will make you stay in control.

- How observant are you…really?     

Have you noticed that your friend is quieter than usual? What is the name of the new shop on the next street? Why does the smell of your nan’s kitchen remind you of the park? Do you know what your cousin’s favourite place is? Have the trees on your way to school got leaves on yet?

- Can you spend a day without your phone? - Do you take notice of how your family are feeling/acting?

-Take a different route to school, a new journey…

Learning new things make us more confident. The greatest sense of achievement comes from being able to do something you never thought you could.

-Join a club and learn a new skill, game … -Learning something new takes EFFORT. -Learn to play an instrument. -Learn to cook a meal.

- Learn something new from a grandparent.

Random acts of kindness for others also make us feel good. -Smile. - Compliment your friend – make them feel good. -Offer to help someone without expecting anything back. -Say thank you to someone, for something they’ve done for you. -Ask a friend how they are and really listen to the answer.

What areare you doing to keep your What you doing to mind healthy? keep your mind healthy? Think about what is affecting your wellbeing.
