CITY COLLEGES OF CHICAGO
5-YEAR PLAN SCORECARD Wilbur Wright College In 2010, City Colleges of Chicago launched Reinvention, a comprehensive reform effort designed to create a student-centered culture of success driven by data, accountability and transparency. The initiative was driven by City Colleges leaders in concert with task forces made up of students, faculty and staff from the seven colleges, including Wright College. Task force members came together to identify obstacles to student success and formulate strategies to remove those barriers. Based on its Reinvention goals, City Colleges selected key metrics to assess academic and institutional health and established annual targets in its FiveYear Strategic Plan released in June 2013. I’m excited to detail Wright College’s performance in key strategic areas in fiscal year 2013 with this first annual Reinvention Scorecard. Wright exceeded or met 10 of the 12 FY2013 targets on the Scorecard, including its official graduation rate. The target rate was 12 percent, but the college’s actual rate was 14 percent. This represents an overall graduation rate increase of 75 percent since the launch of Reinvention. Notably, Wright also exceeded its FY2013 targets for both degrees and certificates awarded. The number of associate degrees awarded increased by 17 percent over FY2012; and since the launch of Reinvention, Wright has nearly doubled the number of degrees awarded. This is a key metric as it captures every student earning a credential, providing a comprehensive representation of the growth rate in the area of student success. In addition to exceeding our targets for graduation rate and degrees and certificates awarded, Wright also exceeded the following targets: Fall-toSpring credit student retention, total enrollment, remediation transitions, and full-time students earning 30 credit hours in one year. We reached 99 percent of our adult education enrollment target and 95 percent of our goal for parttime students to earn 15 credit hours in one year.

We are encouraged by the improvements in these key measures of student success. Looking ahead, there is opportunity for improvement and growth within every strategic metric, particularly in all categories of enrollment. Still, since the launch of Reinvention, credit enrollment has increased by 17 percent; we will continue to work to further this upward trend. Wright College’s extensive work with the Higher Learning Commission’s Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) supports City Colleges’ Reinvention goals. Through its participation in AQIP, Wright College systematically reflects upon and implements quality improvement initiatives that are aligned with these goals. Wright’s successes come as the result of the faculty and staff’s hard work, spirit of continuous improvement, and dedication to student success – a dedication that will help us realize continued improvements in the months and years to come.

Increase the quality and effectiveness of student services and support As documented by Complete College America, time is the enemy when it comes to college: the longer students take to earn a credential, the less likely they are to achieve it. City Colleges has focused its investments to offer comprehensive student supports, including advising, tutoring, confidential counseling, transfer, career, and veterans centers, which are essential to ensuring students move quickly toward their goals. Students at Wright College and across the City Colleges are reaching key milestones faster. The number of students at Wright who earned 30 credits within their first year exceeded Wright’s target by nearly 10 percent; for those earning 15 credits in their first year, Wright reached 95 percent of its goal.
