Purpose

AGENDA

This workshop will examine how we heal our own wounds as we heal the wounds of others. We'll examine how we interact with one another (fellow professionals) and our patients in such a way that we meet at a place that acknowledges our common humanity: we all have imperfections (caregivers and care recipients), we all suffer, we all seek some form of healing.

Among the content areas to be explored in this compassionate workshop are the following: • Curing versus healing, • Examining a psycho-spiritual model of care to complement the medical model of care, • How to be a wounded healer, • Intuitive grievers and instrumental grievers , • Tasks of healing, • Tools for our growth and the growth of our clients • Closing remarks

This compassionate workshop will help anyone who wants to learn more about how to better navigate the process of suffering and healing. Nurses, psychologists, counselors, social workers, chaplains, and other interested healthcare professionals helping individuals cope with grief are invited to attend. Regardless of your specific job or life role, you can and will benefit from this learning experience. OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this workshop the participant will be able to: • Reframe pain and suffering as catalysts for growth and healing for ourselves and others, • Discuss ways of relieving stress and anxiety in the midst of pain and suffering, • Explain how people respond differently to personal loss, • Use numerous tools to assist people in adjusting to loss, no matter what its form.
