Our Calvary Family is pleased to WELCOME you to our Celebration of Pentecost. Thank you for joining us in our joyous celebration of love, life, service and fellowship demonstrated to us by our Master and Savior Jesus Christ and carried by us throughout the year! On Sundays, we normally have two distinct liturgies (services). Both include the Eucharist (Communion). During Lent, our 8 AM Sunday Service celebrates the Eucharist with the words of our traditional Rite I liturgy from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer. The 10:15 AM Service uses the more contemporary language of our Rite II Liturgy. Additionally: * The 8:00 AM liturgy is celebrated, usually without music. * The 10:15 AM liturgy is a sung Eucharist. During the Season of Pentecost, both Sunday services follow the Rite II Liturgy. For your information and convenience, nursery care is available during the 10:15 AM Service as well as Sunday School for children and youth. We encourage you and your family to try each service to see what fits you best. At Calvary, everyone celebrates the Eucharist, and we pray that these worship experiences will be a wonderful way to connect all parishioners regardless of age. We strive to build a community where all feel a sense of hope and compassion from a church that welcomes all of God’s children. Please complete a visitor’s card found in the pew rack and place it in the collection tray. We invite you to join us following the service for coffee and fellowship in the meeting rooms in the south end of the Education Wing.

Youth Christian Education: Youth Christian Education begins at 10:00 AM on Sunday. Our program provides the foundation for a life guided by Christ, emphasizing “love thy neighbor” and service to others. The program is focused on building new relationships and emphasizing that church is fun and that God loves everyone, without exception. Here, we invite all children and families into our ministry. At Calvary, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve God by teaching and forming the next ambassadors of the church. You are always welcome; please join us! INFORMATION FOR PARENTS Our Responsibility: What better evidence exists to prove the Grace and Love of our Lord, Jesus Christ than the childhood development of our children? At Calvary, we take that responsibility very cheerfully, yet extremely seriously. Our Director of Youth Christian Ed, Adam McCluskey is a graduate of the General Theological Seminary in New York and completed his studies as a Seminarian at St. Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church in New York City. Adam is well trained for his role. The entire staff at Calvary as well as those volunteers directly responsible for your son or daughter’s Christian Education are subject to a background investigation and must complete the Keeping God’s Children Safe Program. Your child’s safety is as important to us as is his or her Christian Education. Your active participation is not only welcome but is essential to your child’s Christian development! 4|Page

Collect for the Day Priest: People:

The Lord be with you. And also with you.

Priest:

Let us pray.

David decrees that the ark of the covenant should be given a place of honor. The prophet Nathan assures David that God is with him.

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. People: Amen.

First Lesson LEM:

2 Samuel 7: 1-14a A Reading from the Second Book of Samuel

When David, the king, was settled in his house, and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies around him, the king said to the prophet Nathan, "See 9|Page

now, I am living in a house of cedar, but the ark of God stays in a tent." Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that you have in mind; for the LORD is with you." But that same night the word of the LORD came to Nathan: Go and tell my servant David: Thus says the LORD: Are you the one to build me a house to live in? I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent and a tabernacle. Wherever I have moved about among all the people of Israel, did I ever speak a word with any of the tribal leaders of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?" Now therefore thus you shall say to my servant David: Thus says the LORD of hosts: I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep to be prince over my people Israel; and I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may live in their own place, and be disturbed no more; and evildoers shall afflict them no more, as formerly, from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel; and I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover the LORD declares to you that the LORD will make you a house. When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come forth from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. LEM: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

Gradual Psalm

Psalm 89: 20-37

Please read the Psalm responsively, dividing at the asterisk 10 | P a g e

Please chant the Psalm to the following tone

20 "I have found David my servant; * with my holy oil have I anointed him. 21 My hand will hold him fast * and my arm will make him strong. 22 No enemy shall deceive him, * nor any wicked man bring him down. 23 I will crush his foes before him * and strike down those who hate him. 24 My faithfulness and love shall be with him, * and he shall be victorious through my Name. 25 I shall make his dominion extend * from the Great Sea to the River. 26 He will say to me, 'You are my Father, * my God, and the rock of my salvation.' 27 I will make him my firstborn * and higher than the kings of the earth.

11 | P a g e

28 I will keep my love for him for ever, * and my covenant will stand firm for him. 29 I will establish his line for ever * and his throne as the days of heaven." 30 "If his children forsake my law * and do not walk according to my judgments; 31

If they break my statutes * and do not keep my commandments;

32

I will punish their transgressions with a rod * and their iniquities with the lash;

33

But I will not take my love from him, * nor let my faithfulness prove false.

34

I will not break my covenant, * nor change what has gone out of my lips.

35

Once for all I have sworn by my holiness: * 'I will not lie to David.

36

His line shall endure for ever * and his throne as the sun before me;

37

It shall stand fast for evermore like the moon, * the abiding witness in the sky.' "

Second Lesson

Ephesians 2:11-22 Reader: A Reading from the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians:

Remember that at one time you Gentiles by birth, called "the uncircumcision" by those who are called "the circumcision"—a physical circumcision made in the flesh by human hands—remember that you were at that time without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. He has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it. So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. In him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God. Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. Paul assures the Gentiles at Ephesus that through Jesus’ death and resurrection, they are now included among the chosen people of God. 13 | P a g e

Gospel Acclamation

The Holy Gospel Priest: People:

Mark 6: 30-34, 53-56 +The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark. Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Priest: The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, "Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while." For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored the boat. When they got out of the boat, people at once recognized him, and rushed about that whole region and began to bring the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he went, into villages or cities or farms, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed. Priest: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. 14 | P a g e

Gospel Acclamation

Homily – Fr. Rasicci Profession of Faith Priest:

Let us profess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed.

All: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, 15 | P a g e

and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People Priest: Comfort us, gracious God, in our anxiety and worry, and grant us such rest and renewal that we may be strengthened to share in your reconciling and healing work of bringing peace to the world, as we pray: You are our God, our savior and rock of our salvation. LEM: Your Church has been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus as the cornerstone: Break down the dividing walls within your Body and be our peace, that we may act no longer as strangers 16 | P a g e

Priest: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Priest: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord. Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give him thanks and praise. Priest: God of all power, Ruler of the Universe, you are worthy of glory and praise. People: Glory to you forever and ever.

20 | P a g e

Priest: At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, and this fragile earth, our island home. People: By your will they were created and have their being. Priest: From the primal elements you brought forth the human race, and blessed us with memory, reason, and skill. You made us the rulers of creation. But we turned against you, and betrayed your trust; and we turned against one another. People: Have mercy, Lord, for we are sinners in your sight Priest: Again and again, you called us to return. Through prophets and sages you revealed your righteous Law. And in the fullness of time you sent your only Son, born of a woman, to fulfill your Law, to open for us the way of freedom and peace. All: By his blood, he reconciled us. By his wounds, we are healed. And therefore we praise you, joining with the heavenly chorus, with prophets, apostles, and martyrs, and with all those in every generation who have looked to you in hope, to proclaim with them your glory, in their unending hymn: All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Please kneel

Priest: And so, Father, we who have been redeemed by him, and made a new people by water and the Spirit, now bring before you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ our Lord. On the night he was betrayed he took bread, said the blessing, broke the bread, and gave it to his friends, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” [The Acolyte strikes the chime to remind us of Christ’s presence under the form of bread]

After supper, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” [The Acolyte strikes the chime to remind us of Christ’s presence under the form of wine]

22 | P a g e

Remembering now his work of redemption, and offering to you this sacrifice of thanksgiving, All: We celebrate his death and resurrection, as we await the day of his coming. Lord God of our Fathers; God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: Open our eyes to see your hand at work in the world about us. Deliver us from the presumption of coming to this Table for solace only, and not for strength; for pardon only, and not for renewal. Let the grace of this Holy Communion make us one body, one spirit in Christ, that we may worthily serve the world in his name. All: Risen Lord, be known to us in the breaking of the Bread. Accept these prayers and praises, Father, through Jesus Christ our great High Priest, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, your Church gives honor, glory, and worship, from generation to generation. All: AMEN.

The Lord’s Prayer Priest: And now, as our Savior Christ hath taught us, we are bold to say: All: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

VBS/Sunday Youth Days August 12, 19, 26 12-3pm This summer the Youth and I have been focusing our discussions on the movement of The Holy Spirit through our biblical figures, our saints, and ourselves. This has led us to talk a lot about how we act in our community and in the world. Jesus tells us to love God, and love our neighbors as ourselves so this summer we decided to dedicate our August Sundays to service. On the last three Sunday’s in August our Youth will be centering our attention on serving our community by helping those less fortunate then ourselves--making lunches, packing back to school back packs for students, and care packages for shut its and the homeless. Although service is our theme there will also be time for fun, food, and games. So please join us and connect with your neighbors while we spread the Spirit of God.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT A week and a half ago, a group of activity-minded individuals from Calvary met to discuss potential activities that we could do together as a church. They brainstormed, discussed and voted within the small group on activities that they had heard about from others as well as those they came up with as a group. In the Rectors’ Hall, there are lists up on the walls that they are requesting input from the rest of us. Please take a look and if you would be interested in participating in, supporting or even helping coordinate any activities, please add a tally mark. We will keep these up for a few weeks in order to allow for people traveling over the summer to get their votes in. One activity that the group decided to move forward with in the short term is a joint coffee hour BETWEEN the two services on August 26. This coffee hour will be at 9:30 and there will be NO coffee hour after the 10:15 service. The coffee hour will be hosted by the Dalmasso’s, Donna Womack and Betty Cress. Also, keep an eye out for information about our second annual Falloween which will be October 13.

What You Should Know Before You Give: Recognizing there may be a tax advantage to charitable giving, and that giving requires detailed records, we routinely provide Giving Statements to parishioners and guests. In order to properly identify the donor, we ask that you provide a check or place your gift in a Special Giving Envelope found in each pew where you can indicate your name and address and how you would like the gift to be used. Or you may use a numbered envelope available to parishioners at the beginning of the year. If you give cash and want to receive tax credit for it, you should use a special or numbered envelope. Loose cash placed in the collection plate is provided to the general fund. Every 3rd Sunday, the Open Plate Collection (meaning loose cash) placed in the plate is directed automatically to the Rector's Discretionary Fund. During a special Red Bowl Collection (generally occurring on the 4th Sunday of the month), all gifts (checks and cash) are provided to the announced charity which is listed in the bulletin. And, as always, thank you for your generous financial support!

In order to make your financial support of Calvary’s Mission a much easier process for your pledged and special holiday giving, consider using TITHE.LY. TITHE.LY may be obtained from your Apple or Android APP Stores.
