Engineered for cross-country, ski slope and other winter-scaping applications, the new Pistenbully 100 4F snow groomer from Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug is driven by a 6.7 L Cummins diesel that drives a track system incorporating modified Comer Industries planetaries.

a high power density in a small space. The design work by Comer Industries also incorporated a very low ratio to achieve the requested high speed, along with an external parking brake that enabled a more streamlined design and improved heat transfer. “Comer Industries showed great flexibility and technical capability in adapting a standard product to a very special application,” said Marc Frank, Engineering Power Transmission, Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG. Laboratory bench tests for specific snow groomer applications have been conducted by Comer Industries in its dedicated Mechatronics Research Center test facility. Comer Industries said specific calculation tools have been implemented and verified on the field, for a correct sizing of the drive while granting safety standards. “At Kässbohrer, we launched a successful project for our new machine Pistenbully 100, thus achieving greater efficiency and higher performance,” said Wolfgang Goetz, purchasing manager at Kässbohrer Geländemaschinen AG. “Comer Industries’ engineering and sales teams contributed to our success and their solution was both technically advanced and very cost sensitive.” Kässbohrer Geländemaschinen AG, with its Pistenbully snow groomers, has been named official supplier for the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Championships 2017. dpi

erman manufacturer Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG has redesigned its Pistenbully 100 4F, a snow groomer designed to prepare and maintain ski slopes. The new generation machine includes a new cockpit, a roomier cab, a double-jointed joystick designed to move freely in all directions and transfer hand movements directly to the blade and the touch-control iTerminal monitor. The vehicle was successfully introduced in the market and Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG said it is being well received by customers as an economical and efficient vehicle with 20% more thrust than previous versions. The 7000 kg Pistenbully 100 4F snow groomer is driven by a 6.7 L, six-cylinder Cummins QSB 6.7 diesel engine rated 186 kW with 990 Nm maximum torque at 1500 r/min. The engine is certified for EU Stage 4 and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Tier 4 final emissions regulations and is ready for conversion to EU Stage 5 as well, the company said, as it can be fitted with a diesel particulate filter on demand. The vehicle also mounts a new track drive by Italy’s Comer Industries that was chosen after two years of testing, including field tests in the machine. The track drive system is based on Comer’s PGR-802T planetary drive system that Comer Industries redesigned and adapted according to design specifications established by Kässbohrer. The result is a two-stage planetary gear drive with rotating housing that provides 6900 Nm at 230 r/min and
