A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD 2017 has got off to a very successful start. The Year 1/2 trip to Skipton, this week, proved very enjoyable. Our children’s behaviour was praised by the organisers. Well done Year 1/2. Please could I remind parents and carers that children must wear full uniform to school which includes a hard collar white shirt, black shoes (no boots or trainers) and a tie. We also ask for your support in ensuring sensible haircuts please. Should you have any questions about any area of school life please do not hesitate to contact us.

The News! Parent Information

Super Science Sessions at Kentmere Academy! Year 5/6 enjoyed visiting the school Science Show. We enjoyed learning about friction and forces using different experiments, some of which we can try at home! We think we have a few Science experts in our school too!

Attendance information Our attendance figure for last term is 95.6%. Our target for this year is 98% The school day starts at 8.50 am - this is the time that your child should be in school and ready to be registered as present. The school gates will closed at 8.55am. After this time, your child will be late and will need to go around to the front entrance to be signed in by a member of staff. Please bring your child to school EVERY DAY unless your child is too ill to attend. If they are ill, please take them to the doctors and bring a note into school if possible. A copy of the appointment slip or any other proof will be fine also. We do not consider a cold, cough, ear ache, head ache, tummy ache, high temperature, sore throat or tonsillitis to be an illness that prevents your child attending school. Paracetamol and plenty of fluids can be given and your child/children sent to school.

The News! Some general guidelines regarding haircuts • ‘Extreme’ haircuts are not permitted in school (‘extreme’ being any haircut that is considered by the school to be significantly different so as to cause distraction to others, and therefore their learning; and therefore not in keeping with the school’s ethos. Examples of haircuts not permitted include: tram lines or equivalent, shaved sides with longer hair across the centre, use of hair products such as gel. This list is not exhaustive). When joining the school, parents / carers are expected to fully support this guideline at all times. • Long hair should be tied back at all times and short hair in a suitable style for school.

Year 1/2 Visit Skipton Castle

On Wednesday the children from Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed a trip to Skipton Castle. The day started off very windy but everybody was wrapped up with hats and scarfs and the day stayed dry. The children learnt all about towers, tunnels and turrets and enjoyed exploring this wonderful medieval castle. The children travelled by coach and were very excited on the way to the Castle however on the way back some of the children fell asleep, exhausted from their wonderful day. We do hope your children will share their stories with you and thank you for your continued support.

Parent Assembly Reminder Reminder for the Parents / Carers of children in Year 1/ 2 Mrs Howard’s Class, you are invited to watch your child’s assembly on Wednesday 18th January 2017 at 2.45pm.

The News! School Information Unavoidable Closures

Circumstances arise from time to time when it’s necessary to temporarily close a school.  If this happens, Kentmere will get in touch with you via:-

The Gruffalo came to Visit! In Nursery we have been reading the story, ‘The Gruffalo’. We went on a Gruffalo hunt to the Secret Garden and we found a sleeping Gruffalo. We decided to write to him and invite the Gruffalo to school. This week the Gruffalo came and visited our class, we were so excited to see him and he is very friendly. He has left us the recipe for Gruffalo pie so we will look forward to making that.
