AARP 2015 ST. LOUIS COUNTY TRANSIT SURVEY Results of this survey show a majority of residents age 45-plus would like local elected leaders to view the creation of streets that are safe for people of all ages and abilities as a high priority. Survey Summary The majority (80%) of residents age 45-plus in St. Louis County rely on personal vehicles to get to the places they need to go, including work. In fact, less than ten percent primarily use public transportation. However, there are a number of residents age 45 and older who would prefer to use public transportation instead of driving. Taking into account the factors residents consider when deciding what mode of transportation they to use may help and ensure individuals have the means of getting around independently and safely.

Ensuring streets are safe in St. Louis County is important to its residents. Nearly two-thirds of residents age 45 and older say that when it comes to creating streets that are safe for people of all ages and abilities to use in their communities, they would like to see their local elected leaders treat it as a very (40%) or fairly (23%) high priority. Methodology As part of its commitment to ensure streets are safe for people of all ages and abilities to use, AARP Missouri commissioned a survey to learn more about St. Louis County residents’ opinions on public transit and the streets in their community. The results reported here are based on a survey of 400 St. Louis County residents age 45 and older conducted between December 3 and December 20, 2015 by landline and cell phone. The survey has a margin of error of ±5.0 percent. The data in this report has been weighted to reflect the population age 45 and older in St. Louis County.
