Future Opportunities: 95 percent job placement rate prior to graduation; fulfills the requirements for a four-year apprenticeship program for machinist, CNC machinist, moldmaker, toolmaker, and tool and die maker offered through the New York state and federal Departments of Labor.

Accounting (Certificate)*† School of Business

An intensive immersion in the fundamentals of accounting, including financial and managerial accounting, and instruction in widely used accounting software applications. Credits earned in the certificate program can be applied to the Business — Accounting degree program and some may be applied to other programs of the college.

Future Opportunities: continued study toward bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance; advancement in your current job; or entry-level work in finance offices as bookkeeper, accounts receivable, accounts payable or audit clerk, tax collector, tax examiner.

Administrative Information Management and Technology (A.A.S.)* School of Business

A foundation in technology applications, document preparation, spreadsheets, databases, business communications, office management and desktop publishing.

Future Opportunities: entry-level position as an office professional in either the public or private sector.

Advanced Manufacturing Technology (A.O.S.)†

School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies Computer-aided design and manufacturing meet the high-tech work of machine processes, covering an array of precision metal, plastic and composite manufacturing.

Knowledge and skills for those interested in animal advocacy and other animal-related fields.

Future Opportunities: careers including humane law enforcement, animal control, humane education, shelter management, lobbying and policy-making. Working in the framework of public policy, this certificate program can be applied toward an A.A.S. in Public Administration Studies.

Architectural Technology (A.A.S.)

School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies Preparation to work in the architectural field at a level between the skilled artisan and the professional engineer and architect by providing an understanding of the planning, design and erection of buildings.

Future Opportunities: employment in architectural design and planning firms and other companies in the construction field, or continued study at a four-year college to become a licensed architect.

Automotive Management (A.A.S.)

School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies Advanced technological training, preparation in business and marketing combined with a solid foundation in communication and writing; incorporates key skills in automotive maintenance and repair as well as automotive management and sales.

Future Opportunities: employment in industry with the skills to meet the current demand for a more sophisticated and technologically astute workforce.

Automotive Technical Services (A.O.S.) School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies

Classroom, laboratory and hands-on experience in theory, operation, diagnosis and overhaul of all automotive system components, along with the knowledge and skills necessary to service new computerized controls, new fuel delivery systems and power train designs.

Future Opportunities: entry into the automotive repair field with a broad-based knowledge of current diagnostic and repair skills.

Automotive Technical Services — Autobody Repair (A.O.S.)

School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies Training in the principles of autobody estimation and state-of-the-art autobody repair techniques: repairing unibody vehicles, including unibody alignment; welding; metal straightening by hammering; smoothing areas by filling, grinding or sanding; refinishing and replacing body parts and components.

Future Opportunities: entry into the career of autobody repair as a technician, body shop owner/manager, estimator, insurance claims adjuster, autobody supply store salesperson.

Specialized training in helping people grieve after the loss of a loved one; advanced training for individuals already working in the fields of medicine, mental health and social work.

School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies A one-year program focusing primarily on residential construction: masonry and concrete, framing systems, insulation, sheetrock and interior finishing, plumbing and electrical work; incorporates classroom work and practical laboratories where you will build one to three small buildings.

Future Opportunities: immediate entry into the workforce serving as masons and builders on residential construction and framing crews.

Construction Technology — Building Construction (A.A.S.)†

School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies The first two-year program in the country to gain accreditation from the American Council for Construction Education, preparing you to work in the construction industry, performing surveys for construction site layouts, applying proper building codes and preparing drawings for residential and commercial construction projects.

Future Opportunities: employment as a project manager, estimator, construction inspector, expeditor, architectural draftsperson, materials tester and construction supervisor, or continued study toward a bachelor’s degree.

Criminal Investigation (A.A.S.)* School of Liberal Arts and Sciences

A strong academic foundation in investigative techniques, forensic science and evidence collection and analysis. Addressing the growing demand for trained and well-educated sonographers, the program offers coursework on campus and internships at regional hospitals, managed care centers and private imaging facilities.

Future Opportunities: graduates are qualified to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers Certification Examination. Job placement of graduates has been 100 percent.

Digital Marketing (A.A.S.)* School of Business

A focus on the increasingly data-driven world of search engine optimization, web content management and web analytics as they relate to marketing and advertising. Emphasis on critical-thinking skills, effective written and oral communications skills, as well as ethical marketing and business decisions.

Future Opportunities: entry-level positions in social media marketing, search engine marketing, internet marketing, digital advertising, digital content management and web analytics or continued studies toward a bachelor’s degree in marketing.

Provides the skills to be a competent entry-level cardiac sonographer: a working knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart and its echogenic appearance as presented in a 2-D image as well as scanning techniques. Classes on campus and internships at regional hospitals and private cardiology practices.

Offers a broad understanding of the psychological, emotional, intellectual and developmental needs of children. Direct work with children includes student teaching in early childhood settings under the supervision of a college faculty member.

Knowledge and skill in four areas: residential, commercial and industrial installations; transformers; motors and motor control (including programmable logic controllers); and industrial electronics. You will learn about electrical circuits, as well as the theory and mathematics necessary to plan and install electrical systems.

Gain the entrepreneurial skills to be successful launching or growing a new business. The degree program explores the entrepreneurial mindset, entrepreneurial finance, small business management, marketing, and legal issues for small business owners. Students develop a business plan, ready for financing and implementation, and participate in an internship. The certificate provides those who possess specific technical or innovative abilities with key entrepreneurial and business skills and increases the likelihood of success in creating, designing and launching a successful new business.

Future Opportunities: the ability to pursue any number of small business opportunities. Entrepreneurship, defined as nonfarm proprietary business owners, is on the rise in the United States, and now accounts for more than 20 percent of all jobs.

Environmental Science (A.S.) School of Liberal Arts and Sciences

A foundation in the biological, physical and social sciences as well as additional elective courses that explore current, critical environmental issues: meeting energy needs in a clean and safe manner; reducing, reusing and disposing of wastes; developing more effective agricultural practices, among many others. The curriculum integrates theoretical concepts, policy analysis, laboratory experience and hands-on field studies.

School of Liberal Arts and Sciences An effective blend of classroom instruction and practical experience in athletic training, exercise science/nutrition, kinesiology, sports medicine or occupational therapy — along with the preparation to take certification exams from a variety of nationally recognized fitness associations.

To fill their growing workforce needs, utilities are looking for employees who have completed technical training at the community college level to handle the increased technical challenges they face in overhead electric line work.

Photovoltaic Installation (Certificate)† School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies A 21-credit-hour program including courses in basic electricity, residential and commercial construction wiring, and photovoltaic theory and practice.

Preparation to work in the field of polysomnography or electroencephalography diagnostic testing. Polysomnography is an allied health specialty that deals with the diagnostic evaluation and management of patients with neurological and sleep abnormalities.

Future Opportunities: immediate entrance into a growing field in health science. Job opportunities for sleep technologists may be found in sleep labs and electroencephalogram (EEG) departments, hospitals or physicians’ offices.

Public Administration Studies (A.A.S.)*† School of Liberal Arts and Sciences

A program designed for both recent high school graduates and for current public sector employees who wish to work toward a degree or advance to other positions within government. Learn the skills necessary to fill a broad range of professional and paraprofessional positions found in federal, state, county and municipal governments.

Radiologic Technology (A.A.S.) School of Health Sciences

A program coordinating academic study with clinical experience to train students in the diagnostic uses of radiation. Graduates are eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologies Exam to qualify for a New York State license.

Future Opportunities: continued study in the Diagnostic Sonography or Echocardiography one-year certificate programs, or transfer to four-year colleges. Employment may be found in hospitals, diagnostic imaging centers, health maintenance organizations, clinics and physicians’ offices.

Respiratory Care (A.A.S.) School of Health Sciences

Training to help you care for patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system and conditions brought on by shock, trauma or post-operative surgical complications. Graduates are qualified to take the National Board for Respiratory Care Entry Level and Advanced Practitioner exams to qualify for a New York State license. The program is a cooperative educational endeavor with Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Future Opportunities: positions as respiratory therapists working in hospitals, rehabilitation agencies, nursing homes, emergency transport teams, sleep centers, pulmonary function laboratories, outpatient clinics and physicians’ offices.

Semiconductor Technology (Certificate+)

School of Engineering and Industrial Technologies Highly specialized training in semiconductor and nanotechnology, digital electronics, electromechanical devices, semiconductor manufacturing and the nanofabrication processes. The certificate program is for students who have already completed a large number of college-level courses in mathematics, electricity and electronics. + The college also offers a two-year associate degree in Electrical Technology: Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology for those students who may not have the prerequisites to enter the certificate program.

Offered as both a degree and certificate, this program prepares you with the skills to become a surgical technologist: preparing operating rooms, arranging equipment and helping surgeons during a range of surgical procedures, being responsible for ensuring aseptic conditions in the operating room, as well as cleaning and preparing all instruments that might be needed in an operation. Graduates are eligible to take the Certified Surgical Technology Exam through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.

The foundation to work as a teaching assistant in public and private schools, providing direct instructional support to students under the supervision of a licensed teacher.
