ORDERS AND OFFERS: These are fulfilled in order of receipt. All orders despatched from DELABIE imply acceptance of our general conditions of sale and customers waive any claims that may arise from clauses in their own documentation, which may differ. The customer agrees to these terms from the moment that we receive their order, which cannot be cancelled. Orders are accepted without obligation to deliver complete, in one delivery. Our commercial representatives are not authorised to agree additional terms verbally, or to provide verbal guarantees beyond those provided in the written contract. In the event of delay or payment default our company will be entitled to suspend deliveries or cancel existing orders without any claim for damages from the customer. In the event of a change in circumstances of the buyer, we reserve the right to cancel existing orders or to demand payment guarantees. Our quotes do not constitute a specification; specifiers and professional installers have sole responsibility for the choice of products depending on their destination, current regulations and best practice.

PROPERTY IN GOODS: Notwithstanding any agreed terms of sale, the goods shall remain our property until the payment in full has been received. The failure to meet a payment deadline may result in the reclamation of these goods. The buyer assumes the risks of loss or damage, regardless of the means of delivery, as described in paragraphs "Delivery Times" and "Delivery Claims” above, as well as liability for damage they might cause.

PRICES: Deliveries are invoiced according to the conditions in place at the date of delivery. Prices are given without guarantee and they may be changed without notice in accordance with fluctuation of costs, VAT or other taxes, according to economic circumstances. Price increases are announced one month prior to their application, and they apply to offers and orders in hand. PAYMENTS: Terms of payments are confirmed when an account is opened, and are dependent on the terms of our credit insurance, and according to each country. We do not give discount for early payment. In accordance with Article L441-6 of the Commercial Code, any delay in payment will give rise to the following from the first day of delay, regardless of their status with the supplier: - An interest rate for delayed payment will be applied, equal to the European Central Bank refinancing rate plus 10% (French Law of Modernization of the Economy - LME – No. 2008-776 of 4th August 2008); - A one-off payment of 40 Euros will apply to cover expenses (European Directive 2011/7 of 16th February 2011, Law 2012-387 of 22nd March 2012, and Decree 2012-1115 of 2nd October, 2012 ); - When the recovery costs exceed the amount of the oneoff payment, additional compensation will apply where justified. In the case of late payment, a one-off payment may be required, replacing existing conditions. We will not accept any setoff, only our assets have a legal value. DELIVERY TIMES: Delivery dates are indicative only and we shall not be liable for any delay or failure in carrying out our obligations where the delay or failure to deliver is caused by risks of manufacturing or where the cause is beyond our control. Delivery delay will not give rise to compensation payment or goods rejection. CLAIMS: Unless otherwise stated in the Incoterms on the invoice accompanying the goods, the goods are always forwarded at the buyer’s own risk whatever the method of transport, even if the carriage is free. The buyer assumes responsibility of carriage and packing costs. Notwithstanding the method of delivery, the buyer shall examine the goods on receipt and, in case of goods being damaged or lost in transit, notify the carrier immediately in writing (within 48 hours). A copy of this letter must be addressed to us. No claim will be allowed where the delay in reporting exceeds 8 days following the receipt of the goods. The

WARRANTY and RESPONSIBILITY: Our products are warranted against any manufacturing defect for a period of 10 years (except for electronic sanitary fittings and electrical equipment, which are guaranteed for 3 years) from the invoice date, except for products with an expiry date. Our warranty covers the exchange or repair of parts admitted defective (by our workshops) but excludes the cost for spoilage, handling and carriage or compensation whatever it is. We are not responsible for handling charges. Disasters or major water damage as a result of manufacturing defects are covered by “product” public liability insurance. The warranty does not apply and our total liability is excluded in the following cases: - installations that do not conform to the normal practices of installers or the technical specifications provided, - normal wear and tear, - the failure to follow instructions for installation, operation and maintenance; - other factors independent of our products’ quality, for example: damage caused by detergents or abrasive cleaning products, hard water, foreign bodies in water (such as sand, gravel, filings or scale, etc.), or chemical and electrolytic phenomenon. - defective surveillance, storage or maintenance. - modification or intervention by the Client, or third party, to the product without our authorisation or using parts and/or consumable parts that are not original. - products outside their expiry date. The water-tightness of connections, joints and the mounting of the installation is the responsibility of the professional responsible for installation, and must be guaranteed by them. Warranty excludes joints, washers and rubber seals. Any finishes other than chrome or nickel are also excluded from the warranty. In the event that the product has been discontinued or manufacturing methods changed and replacements are not available, similar, alternative products will be offered. Replacement under warranty will not extend the duration of the original warranty. Legal warranty of latent defects applies in any case.

Return 1 year: No refund possible CLEANING - MAINTENANCE: Clean only with soapy water and using a soft rag or sponge. Rinse and dry after washing. Do not use abrasive or chlorinated products (with an hydrochloric acid base). PHOTOS AND DRAWINGS: All photos, drawings or plans, specifications and other illustrations are for reference only. Our company reserves the right to modify or alter the design, construction or appearance of goods described in our catalogues, installation guides, price lists and website at any time, without notice and without recourse. EXCLUSIVE TERRITORIES: In most countries throughout the world, our company has entered into exclusive agreements with organisations to import and distribute our products. Within this framework, our clients cannot sell our products outside their national borders without an express prior agreement on our part. JURISDICTION: Acceptance of an order delivered from France settles the contract under the French law. All disputes arising from the present contract will be settled definitively by the Court located in the area of our domicile, even in the event of multiple defendants, regardless of the delivery location or stipulated payment. All clauses to the contrary will be considered null by the mere fact of having dealt with our company.

RETURNS: Goods may not be returned to us for credit unless prior written approval is obtained by the buyer from our Company and they are received in a good state (determined by our goods inwards department). All transportation costs for returned goods must be paid by the buyer. Goods must be returned with good protective packaging. Goods delivered for less than 1 month will be refunded at the invoiced price. After 1 month a deduction will be made for checking, handling and accounting costs. A repair and re-stocking fee will apply in all instances if necessary. Product returns are not permitted in the following circumstances: specially manufactured products; technical or aesthetic evolution of the product since the date of purchase; scratched or damaged products; products purchased more than one year previously; products with an expiry date. When sent to Delabie, those products outside of the scope of returns, will be immediately destroyed / recycled, and will not be returned to the client. Social Responsibility: Water for Life

The Almeritene project in Mali: 87m bore hole and water storage tank with coping stones and drinking troughs and a manual pump. Beneficiaries: Touaregs, settled nomads, a school of 100 pupils and a medical centre set up after the bore hole was drilled.

The bore holes financed by DELABIE primarily serve villages with 100 to 5,000 inhabitants in rural areas. They vary in depth from 25m to 150m depending on their location. Social Responsibility: Water for Life In 2005, aware of the need to improve water management globally, DELABIE decided to allocate a percentage of its profits every year to finance projects to improve water access for those populations most poverty stricken, isolated or forgotten. Rather than develop corporate social responsibility through sport and culture, we decided to focus on sustainable development. We embarked upon a humanitarian programme to combat thirst, hunger and misery; to provide better access to hygiene; and encourage personal development through work, culture and cultivation. By financing clearly identifiable projects whose future is assured, we have achieved the first step towards sustainable development for the poorest populations.

45% of Africans spend more than 30 minutes every day looking for the equivalent of one bucket of water, travelling for miles and facing many dangers on the way.

What do we know of the problems with water faced by developing countries? • • • • • •

1.2 billion people (20% of the world’s population) do not have access to safe drinking water. An African consumes 10-30 litres of water a day compared to 300 litres for the average European. Diseases transmitted by contaminated water cause several millions of deaths every year, 50% of which are children. 80% of all illnesses in developing countries are caused by contaminated water. 26 countries are in a state of extreme poverty. According to UN and UNESCO estimates, this number will double between now and 2050. The number of refugees due to water shortages now outnumbers those displaced by wars. In arid regions where it rains only for a few months of the year, the primary risk is a mass exodus from the countryside. Current estimates indicate that 60 million people in Africa face migration due to severe water shortages.

Faced with these facts, what can we do? We asked the same question of various NGOs: how to combat hunger and thirst for the billions of people whose resources amount to a few dollars per day, and who do not have access to clean drinking water? Emergency aid, e.g. sacks of rice or wheat are ideal short term solutions for emergencies, but the future for these populations can only be secured through sustainable development. Sending money to internationally recognised NGOs is effective as they have the most demands on their aid and emergency aid is their area of expertise; yet it is also vital to focus on projects that prioritise rural areas, where 90% of the most disadvantaged population live, and where the structural costs (wages, offices, communication budgets, etc.) don’t put pressure on the donations, and where projects are regularly audited and continuity is guaranteed. We are undertaking ventures that prioritise special rural ‘micro-projects’. The projects supported by DELABIE meet the following criterion: 1. The request for aid must come from the population concerned, who will be involved in the project and participate at every stage in order to take ownership and see it through to completion. 2. Following a detailed needs assessment, the most appropriate technological solutions are carefully designed and approved. The technical assessment is undertaken by professionals trained in the field of water technology. The project is entrusted to an experienced local enterprise and the future of the project must be guaranteed through public awareness, water management committees, maintenance funds and equipment, and project ownership. 3. Financial channels must be carefully controlled and must guarantee the appropriate distribution of the funds. If an intermediary is used, only voluntary associations “without structural costs” will benefit from the funding. The whole donation must be allocated to the chosen project and endorsed via technically detailed accounts.

Stainless Steel Range

Maximum Hygiene Stainless Steel: a material that limits the growth of bacteria. DELABIE grab bars use a bacteriostatic stainless steel (304). With this type of stainless steel, the chrome atoms react spontaneously with the oxygen contained in air and form a thin, invisible protective layer called a “passive layer”. If the surface is damaged mechanically, the stainless steel is ”self-repairing” through the phenomenon of self–passivation. This forms a new, protective “passive layer”, which retains the bright stainless steel finish, and protects against corrosion. The surface remains hard and smooth, preventing bacteria from easily adhering to the surface. Bacterial development is therefore slower compared with other materials. Scientific studies have regularly proven the aseptic qualities of stainless steel. It is a non-corrosive alloy, ideal for environments that demand high standards of hygiene (for example hospitals, retirement homes and schools).

Highly polished finish for ease of cleaning. The highly polished finish provides the grab bars with a uniform, non-porous surface, which is easy to clean. The retention coefficient for bacteria after cleaning is extremely low on this type of finish and can be up to twenty times lower than on other materials (glass, plastic…). Many scientific studies show that after several daily soiling/cleaning cycles, polished finish stainless steel retains fewer impurities and residual soils than copper, even if the latter has antimicrobial properties. Copper is harder to clean. Polished finish stainless steel provides better hygiene by facilitating sustainable cleaning. The risk of hospital-acquired infection is reduced where surfaces are easy to clean and disinfect. For this reason in particular, the use of stainless steel has increased rapidly in hospitals and the catering industry. It also helps to reduce the amount of cleaning products required.

Fewer joints. Particular attention was paid to the design of the bars to decrease the number of joins and seams, reducing the build-up of impurities and minimise bacterial growth.

Maximum Safety Grab bars are tested to over 200kg. Tube thickness. Tube thickness is integral to the quality of the grab bar. A metal’s resistance increases rapidly with its thickness. The thickness of tubes used ranges up to 2mm depending on the destination of the product. It is generally thicker than the majority of products available on the marketplace.

Optimum grip. Different grab bar diameters are available, ensuring an optimum grip according to the end-use of the products. For public buildings or hospital, grab bars with a diameter of approximately 32mm are highly recommended.

A space of 40mm between the wall and the grab bar. People with reduced mobility or elderly people frequently lose their balance and fall. Limiting the gap between the wall and the bar to 40mm prevents the forearm from getting trapped, and significantly reduces the risk of fracture. Furthermore the grab bars require less space, improving access within the washroom, and making them more discreet.

Invisible safety welds. The plate and tube are welded together using a bead weld, a process exclusive to ArN-Securit. The flange and the tube form a single, integrated structure particularly resistant to the mechanical constraints applied to the grab bars.

Bending pipes with a mandrel. The tubes are bent with precision, using a mandrel to prevent ovalisation and stretching of the metal, ensuring a uniform thickness of metal throughout the bend.

Invisible fixings. A 1mm stainless steel plate conceals all fixings.

10-Year Warranty. The bars are designed to withstand intensive use in communal buildings or care facilities. Moreover, since stainless steel is an alloy (chrome, nickel and steel), there is no risk of rust developing if the surface is scratched or damaged.

CE certification. DELABIE grab bars and seats bear the CE mark. They conform to Directive 93/42/CEE, which relates to medical devices, and meet the requirements of European Standard EN 12182: 1999 ”Technical aids for handicapped people”. It also carries an additional warranty for users of our products.

Nylon Range

Maximum Safety Grab bars are tested to over 200kg. Metal core. The 3.5mm Nylon casing is reinforced with a 2mm non-corrosive, steel core. The core combines well with the other parts made from highly resistant technical materials.

A space of 38mm between the wall and the grab bar. People with reduced mobility or elderly people frequently lose their balance and fall. Limiting the gap between the wall and the bar to 38mm prevents the forearm from getting trapped and significantly reduces the risk of fractures. 32

Space saving. The smaller gap between the wall and the grab bar saves space in the washroom. This allows all users greater access to the facilities (shower, toilet, bath, etc.) and results in a more discreet product.

Invisible fixings. A Nylon plate conceals all fixings (a plate with six fixing points). Stainless steel screws are included for fixing to concrete walls.

10-Year Warranty. The bars are designed to withstand intensive use in commercial buildings or care facilities. The colour is incorporated during the manufacturing process, ensuring that the bars will remain in perfect condition throughout their long lifetime.

CE certification. DELABIE grab bars and seats bear the CE mark. Maximum Hygiene Stainless Steel: a material that limits the growth of bacteria. Most of DELABIE’s accessories use a bacteriostatic stainless steel. With this type of stainless steel, the chrome atoms react spontaneously with the oxygen contained in air and form a thin, invisible protective layer called a “passive layer”. If the surface is damaged mechanically, the stainless steel is ”self-repairing” through the phenomenon of self–passivation. This forms a new, protective “passive layer”, which retains the bright stainless steel finish, and protects against corrosion. The surface remains hard and smooth, preventing bacteria from adhering easily to the surface. Bacterial development is therefore slower than for other materials. Scientific studies have regularly proven the aseptic qualities of stainless steel. It is a non-corrosive alloy, ideal for environments that demand high standards of hygiene, for example hospitals, retirement homes and schools.

Highly polished finish for ease of cleaning. The highly polished finish provides the DELABIE’s accessories with a uniform, non-porous surface, which is easy to clean. The retention coefficient for bacteria after cleaning is extremely low on this type of finish and can be up to twenty times lower than on other materials (glass, plastic…). Many scientific studies show that after several daily soiling/cleaning cycles, polished finish stainless steel retains fewer impurities and residual soils than copper, even if this one has antimicrobial properties. Copper is harder to clean. Polished finish stainless steel provides better hygiene by facilitating sustainable cleaning. For this reason in particular the use of stainless steel has increased rapidly in hospitals and the catering industry. It also helps to reduce the amount of cleaning products required.

Accessibility and Disabled Facilities

Advice and Recommendations Access Access is a right for people with reduced mobility. Architectural and technical provision must be made to allow everyone - disabled people, elderly people and those with reduced mobility - to maintain independence in their day-to-day life. In particular, they must have easy access to all public places such as civic buildings, cultural centres, hospitals, shops, buildings with communal living and individual dwellings.

The Delabie Solution Delabie offers a complete range of safety and grab bars as well as accessories (e.g. shower seats, soap dispensers, coat hooks, hand dryers, etc.), enabling facilities to be adapted to meet the specific requirements of all users, regardless of their age or level of independence. This guide provides recommendations and advice for installing our products. However, they are provided as a guide only. This information and installation advice must be adapted to the appropriate regulations where they exist (e.g. installation height, length, number of products and adapted spaces, layout, etc.). These may vary considerably from country to country.

In order to meet these requirements, sanitary installations such as shower cubicles, changing rooms, wash basins and toilets should be adapted for disabled people.

> WCs Every building providing public toilet facilities should incorporate a toilet that is suitable for wheelchairs and an accessible washbasin on every floor that has public access. Disabled toilets should be installed near to non-disabled toilets so that they are grouped together. If there are separate toilets for each sex, a disabled toilet should be available for each sex. Washbasins, or at least one washbasin per group of washbasins, should be accessible by disabled people, as well as the various fittings, especially mirrors, soap dispensers and hand dryers.”

Example of implementation

In buildings providing showers or changing rooms (swimming pools, hotels, hospitals, retirement homes, etc.), showers should incorporate: - Equipment enabling people to sit down, with access to a support when seated or standing - a large lift-up shower seat or suspended shower seat, grab bar with shower head rail and drop-down grab bars; - A free space - known as a utility space - next to the equipment, providing easy access to wheelchair users, with enough space to allow 180° turns; - Equipment accessible from the seated position such as coat hooks, adapted taps, hair dryers, mirror, sliding shower head holders etc. A mixer with a maximum temperature limiter, or a cool-touch thermostatic mixer with an ergonomic long lever should be installed (see our Hospital Controls catalogue). Changing rooms should similarly provide a large seat and adapted support rails as well as a utility space alongside. The various equipment should be equally accessible e.g. coat hooks, mirrors etc.

Washbasins WCs should incorporate specific washbasins. The top of the washbasin should be positioned at the recommended height of 850mm and there should be a free area at least 300mm deep, at a height of 700mm, underneath the washbasin to allow easy access for wheelchair users. Other equipment such as hand dryers and soap dispensers should be accessible for users in a seated position and placed at a height between 900 and 1,300mm. A mirror should also be installed. If the mirror does not tilt, the lower edge should be fixed at a maximum height of 1,050mm. Grab bars or a support frame for the toilet should also be installed. Space Guide for Toilet Toilets For toilets, the utility space and manoeuvrability should be considered during construction. The toilet seat should be sited between 450 and 500mm from the floor and the support rails that allow the person to transfer from the wheelchair to the toilet seat should be installed at a height between 700 and 800mm. The support rails and their fixings should be able to withstand the full weight of an adult. The use of one or two drop-down support rails will facilitate access from the side. The recommended length of the support rails should equal that of the toilet seat plus approximately 150mm. If the toilet seat is without a cistern, it is better to add a backrest to avoid any risk of the user falling behind. A rectangular manoeuvring space should be planned at the base of the toilet and a turning space should be incorporated to allow 180° turns. A 400mm grab bar should be mounted on the door to help with closing/opening. An electronic flushing device is ideal. A washbasin equipped with an electronic mixer or a time flow mixer with soft-touch operation, or ergonomic long levers, with a maximum temperature limiter should be installed (see our catalogues for Commercial Controls and Hospital Controls).

ORDERS AND OFFERS: These are fulfilled in order of receipt. All orders despatched from DELABIE imply acceptance of our general conditions of sale and customers waive any claims that may arise from clauses in their own documentation, which may differ. The customer agrees to these terms from the moment that we receive their order, which cannot be cancelled. Orders are accepted without obligation to deliver complete, in one delivery. Our commercial representatives are not authorised to agree additional terms verbally, or to provide verbal guarantees beyond those provided in the written contract. In the event of delay or payment default our company will be entitled to suspend deliveries or cancel existing orders without any claim for damages from the customer. In the event of a change in circumstances of the buyer, we reserve the right to cancel existing orders or to demand payment guarantees. Our quotes do not constitute a specification; specifiers and professional installers have sole responsibility for the choice of products depending on their destination, current regulations and best practice.

PROPERTY IN GOODS: Notwithstanding any agreed terms of sale, the goods shall remain our property until the payment in full has been received. The failure to meet a payment deadline may result in the reclamation of these goods. The buyer assumes the risks of loss or damage, regardless of the means of delivery, as described in paragraphs "Delivery Times" and "Delivery Claims” above, as well as liability for damage they might cause.

PRICES: Deliveries are invoiced according to the conditions in place at the date of delivery. Prices are given without guarantee and they may be changed without notice in accordance with fluctuation of costs, VAT or other taxes, according to economic circumstances. Price increases are announced one month prior to their application, and they apply to offers and orders in hand. PAYMENTS: Terms of payments are confirmed when an account is opened, and are dependent on the terms of our credit insurance, and according to each country. We do not give discount for early payment. In accordance with Article L441-6 of the Commercial Code, any delay in payment will give rise to the following from the first day of delay, regardless of their status with the supplier: - An interest rate for delayed payment will be applied, equal to the European Central Bank refinancing rate plus 10% (French Law of Modernization of the Economy - LME – No. 2008-776 of 4th August 2008); - A one-off payment of 40 Euros will apply to cover expenses (European Directive 2011/7 of 16th February 2011, Law 2012-387 of 22nd March 2012, and Decree 2012-1115 of 2nd October, 2012 ); - When the recovery costs exceed the amount of the oneoff payment, additional compensation will apply where justified. In the case of late payment, a one-off payment may be required, replacing existing conditions. We will not accept any setoff, only our assets have a legal value. DELIVERY TIMES: Delivery dates are indicative only and we shall not be liable for any delay or failure in carrying out our obligations where the delay or failure to deliver is caused by risks of manufacturing or where the cause is beyond our control. Delivery delay will not give rise to compensation payment or goods rejection. CLAIMS: Unless otherwise stated in the Incoterms on the invoice accompanying the goods, the goods are always forwarded at the buyer’s own risk whatever the method of transport, even if the carriage is free. The buyer assumes responsibility of carriage and packing costs. Notwithstanding the method of delivery, the buyer shall examine the goods on receipt and, in case of goods being damaged or lost in transit, notify the carrier immediately in writing (within 48 hours). A copy of this letter must be addressed to us. No claim will be allowed where the delay in reporting exceeds 8 days following the receipt of the goods. The

WARRANTY and RESPONSIBILITY: Our products are warranted against any manufacturing defect for a period of 10 years (except for electronic sanitary fittings and electrical equipment, which are guaranteed for 3 years) from the invoice date, except for products with an expiry date. Our warranty covers the exchange or repair of parts admitted defective (by our workshops) but excludes the cost for spoilage, handling and carriage or compensation whatever it is. We are not responsible for handling charges. Disasters or major water damage as a result of manufacturing defects are covered by “product” public liability insurance. The warranty does not apply and our total liability is excluded in the following cases: - installations that do not conform to the normal practices of installers or the technical specifications provided, - normal wear and tear, - the failure to follow instructions for installation, operation and maintenance; - other factors independent of our products’ quality, for example: damage caused by detergents or abrasive cleaning products, hard water, foreign bodies in water (such as sand, gravel, filings or scale, etc.), or chemical and electrolytic phenomenon. - defective surveillance, storage or maintenance. - modification or intervention by the Client, or third party, to the product without our authorisation or using parts and/or consumable parts that are not original. - products outside their expiry date. The water-tightness of connections, joints and the mounting of the installation is the responsibility of the professional responsible for installation, and must be guaranteed by them. Warranty excludes joints, washers and rubber seals. Any finishes other than chrome or nickel are also excluded from the warranty. In the event that the product has been discontinued or manufacturing methods changed and replacements are not available, similar, alternative products will be offered. Replacement under warranty will not extend the duration of the original warranty. Legal warranty of latent defects applies in any case.

Return 1 year: No refund possible CLEANING - MAINTENANCE: Clean only with soapy water and using a soft rag or sponge. Rinse and dry after washing. Do not use abrasive or chlorinated products (with an hydrochloric acid base). PHOTOS AND DRAWINGS: All photos, drawings or plans, specifications and other illustrations are for reference only. Our company reserves the right to modify or alter the design, construction or appearance of goods described in our catalogues, installation guides, price lists and website at any time, without notice and without recourse. EXCLUSIVE TERRITORIES: In most countries throughout the world, our company has entered into exclusive agreements with organisations to import and distribute our products. Within this framework, our clients cannot sell our products outside their national borders without an express prior agreement on our part. JURISDICTION: Acceptance of an order delivered from France settles the contract under the French law. All disputes arising from the present contract will be settled definitively by the Court located in the area of our domicile, even in the event of multiple defendants, regardless of the delivery location or stipulated payment. All clauses to the contrary will be considered null by the mere fact of having dealt with our company.

RETURNS: Goods may not be returned to us for credit unless prior written approval is obtained by the buyer from our Company and they are received in a good state (determined by our goods inwards department). All transportation costs for returned goods must be paid by the buyer. Goods must be returned with good protective packaging. Goods delivered for less than 1 month will be refunded at the invoiced price. After 1 month a deduction will be made for checking, handling and accounting costs. A repair and re-stocking fee will apply in all instances if necessary. Product returns are not permitted in the following circumstances: specially manufactured products; technical or aesthetic evolution of the product since the date of purchase; scratched or damaged products; products purchased more than one year previously; products with an expiry date. When sent to Delabie, those products outside of the scope of returns, will be immediately destroyed / recycled, and will not be returned to the client.
