Activity-Based Learning Workshop: Skills to manage symptoms of Parkinson's based on Alexander technique (AT) principles.
Activity-Based Learning Workshop: Skills to manage symptoms of Parkinson's based on Alexander technique (AT) principles Presented by: The Poise Project: "Alexander Technique for Parkinson's" Team You are invited to an interactive afternoon where as a Person Living with Parkinson's (PLWP) you can begin to learn how to apply Alexander-based strategies to help improve your balance, alignment and movement, and prevent falls and "freezing." This workshop will introduce you to some basic AT principles that will help you improve your general functioning, and that can be applied during normal daily activities, as well as during specific exercise programs. This is an integrative workshop designed for engaging PLWP as well as their broader care team of family and other partners, allied health professionals, research scientists and medical care providers in a new understanding of the relevance of AT-based interventions for PLWP. Learning Objectives for this workshop The main objective of this workshop is to introduce the potential for Alexander technique (AT) to become an important part of the team approach for managing symptoms for People Living With Parkinson's. Our goal is to demonstrate how adaptive Alexanderbased programs can show PLWP how to actively choose and use functional patterns that promote optimal postural tone, empowering them to manage their physical symptoms, increase their independence and support their cognitive health. Participants are encouraged to bring a mat along with them for the guided "Active Rest" section of this workshop. Workshop Course 1:00PM - 1:10PM
