MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER Daly City is undertaking a volunteer-led effort to restore and revitalize our urban forest—the collection of street and park trees that provide a protective canopy in our community. The initiative is called Project Green Space, a grassroots effort to tend to our suffering urban forest. After years of drought and disease, our already small urban canopy has shrunk. Now, you can help make Daly City cleaner, greener, and more resilient – for generations to come – by joining the Project Green Space effort. So far, the City has received $50,000 in grant funding from Cities of Service and the Walmart Foundation for this project. Over the past year, Project Green Space volunteers and tree adopters planted 90 trees and a series of 10 droughttolerant rain gardens. Now, we are asking for YOUR help!

change. And, they also help soften our asphalt and concrete environment, reducing stress and even crime. The list of benefits goes on. With your help, we can bolster our community resiliency, enhance public health, and beautify Daly City. Did you know? Daly City is the 9th most densely populated city in the country! And, parts of the City experience some of the highest pollution burdens in the County of San Mateo. We need more trees now more than ever. Only three species account for almost half of the trees planted in our city. That lack of diversity helps spread disease quicker. We currently have over 7,000 City-maintained trees that provide a whopping $19 million in annual benefits to the City!

You can join the efforts of your neighbors and community members in Project Green Space this fall and winter. Volunteer to plant trees and new rain gardens or adopt a tree of your Visit our new gardens own at your home or apartment complex.
