Purpose of the role: The main purpose is to assist the Additional Learning Support Co-ordinator with targeted activity to ensure the needs of learners with special educational needs (SEN) are met and that these learners make good or outstanding progress. The role also involves developing skills of Vocational Trainers to ensure all learners are fully supported with qualification achievement. Key responsibilities: 1. 2. 3. 4.

To undertake specialist diagnostics, where applicable, to ensure SEN is accurately identified. To undertake development of operational employees to ensure they have the requisite skills and knowledge to support SEN learners. To provide support for SEN learners where this cannot be delivered by operational employees. To provide support and/or training for Vocational Trainers in the one or more of the following areas: Functional skills-maths, English, ICT Learner support needs such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, visual impairment To assist in sourcing appropriate resources and systems that facilitate achievement of SEN learners To maintain accurate, up to date records of all learner SEN activities to ensure SEN support can be evidenced during SFA audit and Ofsted inspection To support the achievement of the company targeted rate of functional skills.

Key duties:                   

To undertake SEN diagnostic assessments where applicable. To evaluate outcomes of diagnostic assessments and develop personalised support plan for each learner. To ensure that special measures are in place for SEN learners completing tests. To provide training and/or support for operational employees to improve SEN support skills. To assist operational employees working with SEN learners and agree personalised learner development plans with the Vocational Trainer/ALN Co-ordinator. To manage a small caseload of SEN learners to ensure they have the appropriate support to complete all qualifications. To ensure the quality of teaching, learning and assessment of SEN learners is, as a minimum, good. To ensure that SEN referral processes are adhered to. To ensure there are a wide range of resources to support learners with special educational needs. To assist in the development of online learning materials to support SEN learners. To ensure all SEN learners receive regular support. To produce periodic performance reports, as directed by your line manager Undertake projects, initiatives and any other duties as directed by your line manager Contribute to the annual self-assessment report for SEN provision To develop and progress actions included within the Quality Improvement Plan Ensure adherence to funding body, inspectorate and awarding body procedures Maintain and develop internal and external communications Contribute to sustainability and becoming a global citizen Ensure that colleagues and learners are safeguarded against all types of bullying or abuse

Qualifications

Requirement (essential/desirable) Working knowledge of supporting SEN learners - desirable A minimum of 12 months teaching experience Outstanding organisational skills and a sound attention to detail Outstanding teaching skills Outstanding literacy and numeracy skills Good IT skills Good written and verbal communication skills SEN Support qualification at level 4 or higher - desirable Functional Skills English, maths and ICT
