ADE Announces 16 Recipients of Professional Development Sponsorships Educators to Attend Computer Science Conference in July LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Department of Education today announced the 16 Arkansas educators selected to receive $1,000 sponsorships to attend the Computer Science Teachers Association conference in July. The sponsorships will assist educators with expanding their knowledge of computer science and give them the opportunity to network with other educators from around the world at the conference. “I continue to be blown away by the spirit and determination of Arkansas’ educators,” Gov. Asa Hutchinson said. “Our teachers have inspired the next generation with their enthusiasm for our computer science education initiative and with their hunger to continue learning. I am pleased that these scholarships will provide these 16 teachers with additional educational resources, which will continue to strengthen and equip Arkansas’ workforce. The following educators have been selected to each receive a $1,000 sponsorship. Tiffany American Horse - Computer Science Teacher, Bentonville High School in Bentonville

 The $1,000 sponsorships were open to Arkansas K-12 public school teachers, librarians, curriculum coordinators, counselors and other educators who have demonstrated their commitment to technology integration and computer science education at their school or district. Educators were selected by an impartial committee of ADE employees and statewide computer science specialists who reviewed all applicants and scored them using a rubric, viewable at https://goo.gl/ECCNg7. To receive the $1,000 sponsorship, selected educators will be required to attend the CSTA conference and participate in various conference and state delegation activities. Recipients will receive the sponsorships after the conference to offset conference expenses.

 “This year's CSTA Conference will bring together K-12 computer science teachers from around the world to connect and learn about the latest trends in CS education,” Jake Baskin, the CSTA executive director, said. “I’m thrilled that through these sponsorships 16 Arkansas teachers will be able to join in on the fun.
