Administrator, Self Representation Service An exciting opportunity has arisen to join one of Australia’s most successful public interest and pro bono law organisations. Justice Connect is a not-for-profit organisation with a vision of a world that is fair and just; where rights are respected and advanced, laws are fairer, and systems are more accessible and accountable. Justice Connect provides access to justice through pro bono legal services to people experiencing disadvantage and the community organisations that support them. We also address injustice through law reform, policy work and legal education. With funding from the federal government as part of a national program, the Self Representation Service operates in the Federal Court and Federal Circuit Courts in NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT. The service provides assistance to unrepresented litigants who do not have access to legal assistance and advice through other sources. It operates through providing discrete, task-oriented appointments to eligible clients in respect of bankruptcy, Fair Work, human rights or discrimination matters. We are currently seeking an Administrator for a fixed term to 30 June 2017 to support the Director, Manager, Lawyers of the Self Representation Service (Service) in NSW and Victoria and to work collaboratively with the Service Paralegals. The role supports the delivery of access to justice through pro bono legal services for people experiencing disadvantage and includes building, supporting and engaging a strong commitment to pro bono work among lawyers. Specifically, the role supports the effective and efficient management of Service files, the development of Service resources and the timely and accurate reporting of Service data. Key responsibilities 

Provide administrative support to the Director, Manager and Service Lawyers, including by maintaining and generating accurate and current data for use in reports to the Justice Connect Board, pro bono law firms, Federal Court and the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department



Assist in the management, collection and analysis of accurate and current data in respect to the monitoring and evaluation of the Service



Provide legal administrative assistance in collaboration with the paralegals, to the Manager and Lawyers of the Service, including maintaining and updating client files on the client database (PIMS)



Support the appointments of the Service (for instance, provide assistance with booking appointments and interpreters, and assist pro bono lawyers with using PIMS)

Contribute to the development and updating of Service written resources



Assist with arranging meetings, training and events (logistical issues, registration, distribution of materials, arranging catering and venues)



Assist the paralegals with the coordination of the Practical Legal Training Students (PLT)



Contribute to the ongoing operation and development of the Service including reporting, promotion, stakeholder engagement and governance



Perform other duties as directed and necessary to the proper performance of the role

Selection criteria Technical expertise/qualifications

 Advanced skills in MS office software, including Outlook and Excel  Database and client file management skills

Experience

 Significant experience in a comparable role, in particular: – working with people from a wide range of backgrounds – experience working or volunteering for a not-for-profit organisation (highly desirable)  Familiarity with legal practice and terminology (highly desirable)

Knowledge, skills & attributes

 Sound computer skills within a legal practice environment  A sound knowledge of information and document management practices and an aptitude for analysis and data mining  Demonstrated ability to collect, analyse and present information in a meaningful manner  Well organised with excellent attention to detail  Highly motivated, professional with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and demonstrated ability to work in a team  Excellent oral and written communication skills in particular the ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders and people experiencing disadvantage in a professional and respectful matter  Knowledge of the legal issues facing people experiencing disadvantage  A commitment to Justice Connect’s objectives and values
