Message from the Chairman As Chairman to the Stainless Steel World Conference 2015, it is my pleasure to present to you the Advanced Conference Program for the tenth edition of this event.

processes, qualify control systems and application areas. Taken together, all these demands lead to an improvement in the performance and the cost competitiveness of stainless steels.

This year’s attractive conference program was developed by experts from producing industries, manufacturers, end-users, and academia; as represented by the Steering Committee and the experienced staff from KCI. It contains a mixture of presentations, workshops, exhibition displays ,and networking events. Presenters from over twenty-seven countries will share their knowledge in plenary lectures and technical sessions, while the workshops and expo floor will provide many opportunities for information exchange with colleagues and leading specialists.

To gain full benefit of these ongoing developments and to learn from the success stories, knowledge sharing and networking between professionals is key. The Stainless Steel World Conference provides this opportunity, assembling under one roof, the latest scientific, technological and market developments while maintaining a strong application focus. As a benefit, the pleasant atmosphere of the city of Maastricht creates a great setting for producers, fabricators, end-users and researchers to enjoy this very worthwhile and memorable event, and network in a relaxed, sociable setting.

The world of stainless steels is dynamic. Efficiency demands push us to operate plants under ever more extreme conditions, while maintenance costs are squeezed, and reliability requirements ever become more strict. As a result the role of high-end materials like stainless steels have become increasingly important and challenging. These demands continue to trigger the development of new stainless steel grades, surface treatments, welding and production

On behalf of the Steering Committee I would like to invite you to Stainless Steel World 2015, to learn about the latest innovations and applications, to take part in the discussions, to share experiences, and to enjoy the network with your colleagues. I look forward to seeing you in Maastricht!

Lunch & Expo Break Open Forum Welding Moderator: Rob Spelt, Spelt Engineering & Contracting, The Netherlands

WORKSHOP: High Temperature Corrosion Moderator: Rob Gommans, MCC Materials & Corrosion Consultants, The Netherlands

WORKSHOP: Quality Control / Duplex SS, Nickel based alloys Moderator: Jan Baas (CB&I Nederland B.V., The Netherlands)

This open forum will look at the following topics as well as some case study papers: - Duplex stainless steel – Dual phase material - Different responses to heat cycles and cooling conditions after welding - The effect of different heat cycles at multi-pass welds - Negative effects of deleterious phases, carbides and nitrides formed at elevated temperatures - The difference between 2D and 3D cooling - Cooling rates between 1200–800°C and 800–500°C - Weld metal dilution and formation of secondary austenite - Selection of welding process, power source, welding consumables, - PREN index - Selection of gas type and flow-rate Torch, Purge and Backing gas - Gaseous impurities, effect of small traces of N2 and O2 in torch/backing gas - Ferrite content range, corrosion resistance and notch toughness - Corrosion tests to ASTM G48 method A or ASTM A923 method C

High-temperature corrosion has always been a hot topic in the process industry. Apart from oxidation, carburization, metal dusting, sulfidation, nitriding and chloriding can occur at high temperatures. Most of these forms of high-temperature corrosion are gas–metal reactions, which are controlled by diffusion. However, ‘hot corrosion’ is caused by molten salts and shows similarities to wet corrosion in aqueous environments. In the power industry, ferritic and martensitic steels have been traditionally used. However, nowadays, with the increase in steam temperatures towards 700°C, stainless steels and even nickel-based alloys are being proposed and tested. In order to combat the more special forms of high-temperature corrosion, special austenitic steels and nickel-based alloys have been developed. Each of these alloys have specific advantages and disadvantages. The application of some of them will be presented by various failure cases. After these short presentations, discussions between the participants and panelists are welcomed and it will be possible to discuss high-temperature corrosion failure cases. Remark: gas turbine alloys will not be discussed during this workshop

Engineering company specifications to fabricators for proposals and project orders with regard to the procurement of CPI equipment made of high-performance materials are not always completely understood. This is because although specific requirements may be spelled out , they are often hidden in the end-users’ engineering specifications and in complicated international standards. In many cases these material-specific, mostly metallurgical based requirements, are not followed. This has the result that equipment does not always perform as expected. This workshop is intended to address crucial impact parameters such as: ■ • Temperature profiles during operations involving high temperatures ■ • Surface finish for the material groups: Superaustenitics Nickel-based alloys Duplexes and how to monitor and provide proof that professional fabrication has been conducted. It is the objective of this workshop to increase awareness to potential problems and apply strategies to address these concerns.

Some of the panelists will be: J. Bridel (Aperam Stainless, France), G. Gascoyne (Huntingdon Fusion Techniques Ltd., UK), and R.H. Gardi (Salahaddin University, Iraq)

Lunch & Expo Break Open Forum: How can Hydrogen Induced Stress Cracking in a Subsea Environment be avoided? Chair: Guri Nustad, Aker Solutions ASA, Norway In the last couple of decades, a lot of effort has been made to get a better understanding of HISC as a failure mechanism, particularly for duplex stainless steels and martensitic stainless steels. Investigations have been conducted to understand material limitations with respect to critical loading, effect of residual stresses, microstructure, and manufacturing method, etc. More recently, we have seen an increased effort on other material types as well, such as nickel alloys. This forum aims to connect people with knowledge and interest in HISC in order to discuss the findings from miscellaneous research programs – and to discuss how these results can be utilized by the industry. Some short presentations on the subject will be prepared to facilitate the discussions with focus on identifying: • To what extent can the present knowledge give adequate guidance in material selection, design and engineering works ? • What do we need to investigate further?

This workshop will cover the following topics: • S hort-term market drivers for the main end-user segments (automotive, process equipment, and, consumer goods, etc.) • Impact of anti-dumping duties against Taiwan and China ••S hort-term forstainless the mainsteel end-user segments (automotive, Impact ofmarket low oil drivers prices on demand consumer goods, etc.); •process Focus equipment, on re-meltedand, steels and forgings ••Impact of anti-dumping against Competitiveness in the duties stainless steel Taiwan industryand China ••I mpact ofand low trends oil prices stainless steel demand Update foron raw materials (scrap, nickel, chromium, molybdenum) ••F ocus forgings Howon dore-melted the windssteels blow and for 2016 and beyond? •C ompetitiveness in the stainless steel industry •U pdate and trends for raw materials (scrap, nickel, chromium, molybdenum) •H ow do the winds blow for 2016 and beyond?
