Superintendent’s General Business Items for Action 1.

Motion to Approve Field Trip a) It is recommended the Board of Education approve the following international educational experiences offered in conjunction with EF Education First for spring and summer 2017. These opportunities will meet all board policies and all required paperwork will be submitted as details are finalized. These experiences will follow the same model for chaperones, expenses, and scholarships as established in prior EF service learning trips. Final field trip forms will be presented to the Board of Education when all the following details are finalized. Final decisions as to whether these courses are available to students will depend on the following factors: 1) 2) 3)

It is recommended the Board of Education approve a STEM Expedition to Hoedspruit, South Africa on June 15 – 30, 2017. This experience is offered in conjunction with Nature Guide Training. No cost will be incurred by the district and all necessary paperwork has been submitted. (Exhibit 11)

c)

It is recommended the Board of Education approve a field trip to the FIRST Robotics Competition, Buckeye Regional Competition at Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio on March 17 – March 19, 2016. No cost will be incurred by the district and all necessary paperwork is completed for this trip. (Exhibit 12)

d)

It is recommended the Board of Education approve a field trip to the FIRST Robotics Competition, Queen City Regional Competition at Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio on March 31 – April 2, 2016. No cost will be incurred by the district and all necessary paperwork is completed for this trip. (Exhibit 13)

e)

It is recommended the Board of Education approve a field trip to The Friendship Cup at Sports Express Volleyball Center in Mason, Ohio on July 18-20, 2016 for the varsity team members to participate in a tournament team camp. No school will be missed by students participating in this trip. No costs will be incurred by the district and all necessary paperwork has been completed. (Exhibit 14)

In the final course of the PLTW Biomedical Science sequence, students build on the knowledge and skills gained from previous courses to design innovative solutions for the most pressing health challenges of the 21st century. Columbus State Community College (CSCC) Physical Geology Elective, 1 Semester 1 High School Credit, 1.2 Weight 9-12 General principles of physical geology are introduced including, the origin, composition, structure and dynamics of planet Earth. Topics are explored within the general context of plate tectonic theory and include: minerals and rocks, weathering and erosion, geological time, hydrology, earthquakes, volcanoes, mountain building, oceans, landforms and natural resources. Laboratory work involves the practical application of geologic principles such as rock and mineral identification, geologic and topographic map interpretation; simulation of stream, ocean, glacier, and tectonic behavior; analysis of on-line data from USGS, NOAA, NASA, GIS and commercial geologic sources; and field experiences in the 80-acre Wetland Nature Preserve.

The curriculum will highlight the significance of lifetime physical fitness, leisure time activities and nutrition. Examples of these activities may include: Badminton, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Frisbee Golf, Self-Defense, and components of fitness, body image, Fitness training sessions, and various sport competitions.

Notes: Instructions for Public Participation The Board of Education recognizes the value to school governance of public comment on educational issues and the importance of allowing members of the public to express themselves on school matters of community interest. In order to permit the fair and orderly expression of such comment, the Board shall provide a period for public participation at every regular meeting of the Board and shall publish rules to govern such participation in Board meetings. The presiding officer of each Board meeting at which public participation is permitted shall administer the rules of the Board for its conduct. The presiding officer shall be guided by the following rules: A. Public participation shall be permitted as indicated on the agenda. B. Anyone having a legitimate interest in the actions of the Board may participate during the public portion of a meeting. C. Attendees must register their intention to participate in the public portion of the meeting upon their arrival at the meeting. D. Participants must be recognized by the presiding officer and will be requested to preface their comments by an announcement of their name, address, and group affiliation, if and when appropriate. E. Each statement made by a participant shall be limited to five (5) minutes duration. F. No participant may speak more than once during each period of participation. G. All statements shall be directed to the presiding officer; no person may address or question Board members individually. H. Tape or video recordings are permitted, providing the person operating the recorder has received approval from the Superintendent prior to the Board meeting and agrees to the placement of the equipment and to abide by the following conditions: 1) No obstructions are created between the Board and the audience; 2) no interviews are conducted in the meeting room while the Board is in session; 3) no commentary, adjustment of equipment, or positioning of operators is made that would distract either the Board or members of the audience while the Board is in session.

I.

The presiding officer may 1) interrupt, warn, or terminate a participant’s statement when the Statement is too lengthy, personally directed, abusive, obscene, or irrelevant; 2) request any individual to leave the meeting when that person does not observe reasonable decorum; 3) request the assistance of law enforcement officers in the removal of a disorderly person when that person’s conduct interferes with the orderly progress of the meeting; 4) call for a recess or an adjournment to another time when the lack of public decorum so interferes with the orderly conduct of the meeting as to warrant such action; 5) waive these rules. The portion of the meeting during which the participation of the public is invited shall be limited to thirty (30) minutes at the beginning of the meeting early in the agenda.
