Aging Well Month • May 2018

Aging Well Month is now in its 6th year and bigger than ever! We anticipate that over 550 older adults will participate in the over 60 programs, events, and activities that are planned throughout the month of May, which is recognized nationally as Older Americans Month. This month-long celebration kicks off with a state proclamation presented at the Community GEMs (Going the Extra Mile) Recognition Luncheon. At this luncheon, older adults from Lyons, Proviso, and Riverside townships will be acknowledged for their volunteer work and the positive impact they have made in the community. For a total list of honorees see page 7. The Aging Well Month celebration offers engaging, educational, social, free, and fun programs and activities held at a variety of locations throughout the area. They are hosted by community organizations, non-profits, and businesses who all have an interest in the health and well-being of older adults, and helping all of us to age well! This calendar is your guide to this year’s events. Please take a look and mark your calendar for all the events you wish to attend!

The LaGrange Garden Club

was started in 1924 by a small group of women that wanted to beautify the village. Since that time their purpose broadened to include the advancement of gardening, development of home gardens, and garden therapy as well as civic beautification. You might see members planting the village containers, working on the Post Office garden or making summer flower arrangements for local nursing or retirement homes. The Club’s 60 members all agree that the joy and beauty of gardening, learning, and friendships keep their minds and bodies active and in great spirits. They welcome new members! www.lagrangegardenclub.org
