Coppell ISD Chosen Exclusively to Pilot New IBM Watson Education App for iPad Educators at Coppell ISD in Texas first to use new iPad app to tailor learning experiences to each student's interests and aptitude Coppell, TX: Today, IBM announced the launch of the IBM MobileFirst for IOS education app. The app gives educators a real-time holistic view of each student’s progress in the classroom. At the click of a button, the Watson education app will allow teachers to look at students’ educational information, previously stored in multiple mediums, as well as personal interests and accomplishments students choose to share. By providing educators a view of real-time academic and day-to-day updates, a teacher can provide a more personalized instructional plan for students. Coppell ISD was chosen as the exclusive school district to help IBM with the creation and piloting of the app. “Working with Apple and IBM, we are developing creative solutions and designing experiences for educators to engage learners, tap into their interests and align with their learning styles to help meet academic needs,” said Dr. Marilyn Denison, Coppell ISD Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. “With the Watson Element App, educators now have relevant, realtime information they need in order to individualize learning and prepare students to be successful in an ever-changing world.” With increasing demands on educators, teachers need tools that will enable them to better identify the individual needs of all students while designing learning experiences to engage and hold interest as they master the content. The unique “Spotlight” feature in Watson Element provides advanced analytics enabling deeper levels of communication about a student’s accomplishments and progress. If a student is stagnant or falling behind in a specific subject area, Watson enables educators to intervene and address issues by sharing key trends and utilizing what is successful in other classrooms and school activities. The app works with Watson Enlight, a powerful browser-based tool, for educators to support datadriven insights and lesson planning. Through the integrated Natural Language Processing capabilities of IBM Watson, educators are also provided with specific recommended learning content that is tailored to the characteristics and needs of each student. “Coppell ISD’s collaboration with IBM and Apple to bring cognitive computing to education is unprecedented. By using Watson Element and Watson Enlight, we have the ability to tailor and individualize educational experiences to accomplish our goal of making college or career ready students. We are very fortunate to be a part of this unique partnership,” said Dr. Mike Waldrip, Coppell ISD Superintendent. For more information on IBM Watson Education: www.ibm.com/watson/education
