AMTRAK OFFERS INCREASED SERVICE AND CONVENIENT TRANSPORTATION TO INAUGURATION ACTIVITIES WASHINGTON – In preparation for travel to presidential inauguration activities in the nation’s capital, and to accommodate increased ticket sales, Amtrak is offering two additional Acela Express trains between New York and Washington, D.C. on Monday, January 21. Train 2201 will depart New York at 6 a.m., arriving in Washington at 8:55 a.m., and train 2224 will depart Washington at 6 p.m. arriving in New York at 8:55 p.m. Otherwise, due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, Amtrak will be operating a typical Sunday schedule. In conjunction with this major public event, passengers may experience enhanced security measures in the station and onboard trains. Passengers can get schedule information and purchase tickets by visiting Amtrak.com, calling 800-USA-RAIL or on the Amtrak iPhone and Android apps. Washington D.C. Union Station Inauguration Day Travel and Security Presidential Inauguration – Jan. 21, 2013 Due to inaugural events occurring throughout the city we expect large crowds inside and around Washington Union Station. Amtrak volunteers wearing high-visibility vests will be on hand at Washington Union Station to assist you. During this travel period, please be mindful of the following:       

Passengers are encouraged to allow additional time to arrive at the station before their train departure. Passengers with disabilities and/or special needs should specifically request assistance when making reservations. In addition, please notify your conductor of any special needs. Print your roundtrip tickets (your inbound and return tickets) before you board your train for Washington. You may also use the Amtrak Mobile Applications for iPhone and Android to display your ticket. Restroom facilities in the station are limited and will be crowded, so please consider using the restroom before detraining and before returning to the station for your return trip. There will be a large bank of portable restrooms located outside the station. The station’s food court and most retail shops will be open and available for service but are likely to be very crowded. Food service will also be available aboard inbound and outbound trains. Pack lightly, as no lockers or storage facilities will be available in the station. Amtrak cannot provide alternate transportation or accommodations in the event of a service disruption.

SECURITY UPDATE Heightened security measures will be taken in stations and aboard trains, and may include:     

Amtrak Police officers and Mobile Security Teams Federal, State and local law enforcement presence K-9 units (please do not approach or pet police dogs) Identification checks Random passenger, and carry-on and checked baggage screening
