We are delighted to see our relationships with world class healthcare organisations flourish this year. In the last 12 months we have welcomed over 2,000 new employees into our healthcare teams and have commenced construction of two more state-of-the-art hospitals. Our construction teams have successfully completed the construction of the 700 bed Brunel Building at Southmead hospital and the Al Jalila children’s hospital in Dubai. Construction has commenced on the Aldara hospital in Saudi Arabia and on the new Royal Liverpool University hospital. Throughout the design and construction phase our focus will continue to be on creating a safe and healing environment for the patients who will be cared for in these new facilities. The responsibility of supporting the work of healthcare providers is a challenging but rewarding experience. It relies on the commitment of over 8,000 of our people day in day out. The focus on the individual contributions that they make to the care of patients is central to the culture and success of Carillion. During the last year we have welcomed new colleagues who work at Nottingham University Hospitals, Barts Health and with the East London Trust. In the coming months we will also take responsibility for a network of clinics for Mediclinic, in the UAE – our first health support services contract in the Middle East.

range of facilities management, maintenance and estates transformational services. We have also been recognised for our catering provision at Nottingham with a top accolade in the Health Business Awards, saluting the team’s excellent service and a commitment to local sustainable businesses. The Hospital Catering Award praised the commitment to the local economy which means that over three quarters of our spend on raw ingredients is with local suppliers. The services that we offer continue to evolve using technology to enable enhanced customer experiences and increased levels of assurance while at the same time reducing waste and costs. Across our health contracts technology is enabling us to provide real time assurance to our customers that their estate is technically compliant, down to the level of individual sets of fire doors – a new level in assurance. In the coming year we are well placed to further enhance and strengthen our engineering and maintenance services to provide further assurance that the environments in which patients receive care are available and safe. The positive impact that our services have on the patient experience will remain a golden thread in everything we do.

Barts is one of the most famous names in the whole of the NHS and our relationship with Barts Health NHS Trust has now been extended to include the provision of soft facilities management services at three additional hospitals. At Nottingham we have formed an innovative partnership with the UK’s third largest NHS Trust to provide a comprehensive

Patient Experience Dementia Care Programme Launched Carillion has launched a programme to support Dementia Care across its health contracts with the aim of positively contributing to and improving the experience of patients suffering from dementia. The programme was initially developed at the James Cook University Hospital NHS Trust where Carillion worked in partnership with the Trust as part of the Trust’s five year dementia strategy. The team collaboratively developed a range of interventions which were successfully implemented at the hospital, improving the experience of dementia patients. Building on this success Carillion has now made the Dementia Care programme available to all of its health customers which can be tailored to the needs of each hospital. The initiative includes the appointment of a Dementia Care Champion at Carillion, who will support Trusts with best practice and knowledge sharing. Carillion has recently introduced dignitary crockery on elderly wards at the Royal London Hospital and Whipps Cross Hospital as part of the programme. Carillion joins forces with Elior and Aramark to enhance Retail Catering In 2014 Carillion Health entered a five year partnership with contract catering company Elior to take retail catering to a new level for visitors and staff at the Royal London and St Bartholomew’s hospitals. The new partnership brings together Elior’s exciting and fresh approach to retail catering with Carillion’s experience of providing services in hospitals. This has been extended to Nottingham hospitals. For its remaining UK hospitals Carillion has teamed up with Aramark.

The new services include a high street food retail offering, Grab and Go outlets, sit down meal facilities and further variety and choice including locally sourced, seasonal, fair trade options. There is focus on healthy choices to further promote health and wellbeing for customers. The food quality, variety and service people receive have long been recognised as having a high impact on patient and visitor experience and our new partnerships provide the opportunity to create a new benchmark that others will aspire to achieve. Portertrac Clinicians and patients are benefiting from more timely and reliable portering responses following the implementation of Portertrac. This state of the art system allows portering tasks to be allocated and tracked based on the priority of the task. Jobs are communicated to porters via PDA system technology or radios depending on the WiFi coverage in the hospital. The information in the system allows for more accurate staffing patterns to meet trends in daily and weekly demand and for the daily distribution of wheel chairs around the hospital.

building, patients and visitors score the site and it received improvements over all four categories from last year. The food service came out as one of the highest scores where Carillion has introduced new homemade soups and made improvements to the selection on offer as well as the meal ordering service. James Cook University Hospital also received glowing PLACE scores receiving above the national average for cleanliness, food and condition and appearance and maintenance. A 98% score for overall cleanliness was achieved, a food score of 91% against a benchmark of 89% and condition, appearance and maintenance scores achieved an excellent 96% against the national benchmark of 92%.

At Oxford the system has assisted in eliminating paperwork and signature trails. Barcodes from staff badges are scanned on to the system resulting in improved audit trails and accountability. Top Marks for Food Service at Darent Valley Hospital Results from patient led assessment scores (PLACE) placed Darent Valley Hospital as one of the cleanest in the country. Patient Dining Experience at Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust Meals are being served within two hours of being ordered and patients have certainty that the meal they ordered is what they actually receive. All of this is made possible by a new tablet based meal ordering system that has been implemented at Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust. The system allows patients to order their first choice of meal with a choice of portion size. With written as well as pictorial displays of the food on offer, it makes patient meal ordering easy for all patients including dementia sufferers and children, improving the nutritional intake of patients and allowing for meals to be easily monitored. The new system also dramatically reduces food wastage and makes meal delivery to wards more efficient.

“Thank you Denise for such positive feedback. I agree with your comments about Pierson – he has always been a splendid advocate for our hospital food and is always friendly, happy and helpful. I will be writing to all of those who participated in Saturday’s really successful Open Day to thank them for their marvellous contributions.” Peter Mellor, Director of Corporate Affairs & Business Development, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust

Carillion is also supporting the Trust with a cook to order menu that runs all day on its Cystic Fibrosis ward, where patients require significantly more calories than a well person. Eating can become a chore for these patients so the ability to order what they would like when they would like improves the patient experience. The kitchen in the purpose built Cystic Fibrosis Unit also includes a demonstration window with family table so that chefs can educate patients on how to cook, and patients can eat with their families. English Language Training for FM Staff at The John Radcliffe To support the development and improvement of staff skills and competency at the John Radcliffe Hospital Carillion developed an English language training course for staff from non English speaking backgrounds in partnership with the City of Oxford College. The pilot ten week programme was so successful that it will now be rolled out annually for staff members who would like to improve their language skills. A two tier programme has been developed to accommodate both beginners and those with a better understanding of English who want to improve their skills. The two levels of training take into account different standards and achievements that need to be completed by the end of the course to offer the right level of support to participants. The programme not only aids staff development and retention but also allows participants to communicate more effectively and provide a higher standard of service to patients, staff and visitors to the hospital.

“Dear Lee I felt I had to write and say how proud I was to be associated with Carillion and the food service on Saturday. We (dietetics and Carillion) were in the same room and and the food service was without doubt the busiest room on E level. Pierson is an amazing advocate for hospital food. He is so passionate about the product he serves and this was so evident in the way he conducted himself. As a result we had a whole host of people in to taste the food and ALL without exception were positive and very surprised with the food offered to patients.” Denise Thomas, Head of Nutrition & Dietetics Service, Portsmouth Hospitals Trust.

Come Dine With Us To give patients’ friends, family and visitors as well as the clinical staff at the Barts Health NHS Trust and at the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough an idea of how great the food served on site is, Carillion has hosted a series of ‘Come Dine With Us’ events, including one on Christmas day.

Richard Webb, the Acting Catering Manager at Barts wanted to dispel the perception that patient meals aren’t great so took action. Richard held inclusive days on the wards where people could get first hand experience of the patient food on offer. This has been an overwhelming success with lots of supporters for the food on offer. As part of Patient Hydration and Nutrition Week in March, the James Cook University Hospital also invited guests to ‘Come Dine With Us’ at the staff restaurant giving people the opportunity to sample and assess dining options with on the spot feedback. There were glowing reviews, particularly from patients.

“As a recent patient on the Chestnut Ward of Darent Valley Hospital, I would like to feedback how excellent the Carillion cleaning staff, STA’s and porters were. I was also pleased with the food, it was very tasty and I always got what I ordered. Carillion staff clearly felt they were part of the ward team and were polite, courteous and good humoured.” Susan Acott, Chief Executive – Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust

Sustainability in Action Carillion Drives Day of Action in Support of NHS Sustainability Day We celebrated a successful NHS Sustainability Day 2014, driving a ‘Day of Action’ across our healthcare contracts as part of our ongoing involvement with the initiative. Over 150 staff across 13 sites took part in a range of activities to promote sustainability to both healthcare staff and patients across the UK. Barts Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital hosted sessions on the topics of sustainability and public health and collaboration throughout the day, bringing people together to celebrate sustainability success, discuss sustainability issues and share knowledge and best practice. The sustainability campaign culminated in The Sustainability Awards, which we were delighted to sponsor and which took place in April. We are pleased to be continuing with a third year of support for NHS Sustainability Day and have once again kicked off with a series of regional roadshows held around the UK in the run up to NHS Sustainability Day in March 2015. The roadshows feature guest speakers from Carillion, the NHS and Public Health as well as other health partners to promote the day. They also provide the opportunity for healthcare organisations to engage with their fellow Trusts and learn about new areas within sustainability, whilst also sharing best practice success stories many of which are available at www.nhssustainabilityday.co.uk.

Carillion and Barnado’s Together Barnardo’s is one of the UK’s leading charities, working with over 200,000 children, young people and their families each year. They run over 900 local projects including counselling, adoption services, vocational training and disability inclusion groups. Now a year into our ‘together’ partnership with Barnardo’s, our staff, customers and partners across the business have raised almost £50,000 which is making a real difference to the lives of some of the most disadvantaged children. Lots of activities have taken place across Carillion to raise money and awareness for Barnados including…

coast of the UK, the rigorous course passed through sections of the challenging Tour de France route pushing the team to their personal limits to raise over £30,000. Barney Bear Colouring Competition: The Barney Bear colouring competition held at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon helped raise money for Barnado’s where in return for a donation, children had the opportunity to show off their artistic skills with the chance of winning Barney himself, as well as a hamper full of goodies.

Go Get It Challenge: Colleagues from the James Cook University Hospital and Nottingham University Hospital were involved in the Barnado’s ‘Go Get It’ challenge where Barnardo’s created a shopping list that groups of volunteers had to source for free from surrounding areas. On the day the team made hundreds of phone calls to suppliers and local businesses as well as visiting stores. At the end of the day the team had gathered upwards of £1,000 worth of products. Coast to Coast: Team Carillion set out on a Coast to Coast cycle challenge led by Chief Executive Richard Howson with the aim of raising as much money as possible for the charity. Bringing together colleagues including Emma Gilbert from the James Cook Hospital, customers and partners on a ride that crossed from the west to the east

Sustainability in Action Health Team Hosts NHS Sustainable Development Unit During July we welcomed David Pencheon and his Sustainable Development Unit team together with healthcare stakeholders to our Shell client office in Canary Wharf. This Routemap event discussed the development of the two outstanding NHS Sustainability modules – Innovation and Social Value. As generating Social Value remains a key element in our sustainability strategy we were able to share with the group how we work through organisations including Business in the Community (BITC) to engage with local communities. This event also led to production of a short video at the Royal Liverpool Hospital showcasing how creating Social Value works in practice (http://www.carillionplc.com/markets/health.aspx). Carillion Supports Pilgrim Bandits In June seven members of Carillion’s Darent Valley Hospital Logistics team joined in a fundraising exercise for the Pilgrim Bandits. This is the second year Carillion has supported the charity and as a major service provider to the Forces across the UK, Carillion is proud to support these local fundraising activities. This year the team undertook a 10 mile log run from Strood, named Exercise Triple Strike, via Gravesend to the Royal British Legion in Greenhithe. The team far exceeded their ambitions on the day by raising £4,800 for the charity. Funds raised will specifically go to Forces’ amputees. After such a successful event, the Deputy Mayor of Swanscombe, Sue Butterfill, has asked the Carillion team to sponsor next year’s run. Plans are already under way!

Volunteering Carillion’s volunteering programme allows each employee six paid days of volunteering in their local community each year. On 18th September, Victoria Moore, a Carillion employee at Darent Valley Hospital, used one of her volunteering days to help plant over 880,000 ceramic poppies in the dry moat at the Tower of London as part of a major artistic installation called ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’ to commemorate the First World War Centenary. Staff at Nottingham University Hospital are working with the Rotary, a partner organisation that engages charities and local businesses to support volunteering projects. Last year a team of Carillion staff spent the day overhauling a garden area near the stroke unit at City hospital and throughout 2015, we have committed to working on a further six projects with Rotary. Supporting the Local Community at Darent Valley Hospital As part of Carillion’s community engagement and voluntary initiatives the Catering Department at Dartford organised a cake decorating morning for the children on Willow Ward as part of “Giving Tuesday”, a global event where individuals from business and communities give something back. Certificates were given to all participants in recognition of their wonderful creations. Plus each child had the added bonus of being able to eat the fruits all of their hard work. Due to the success of the cake decorating morning, the Catering Department are hoping to establish these fun sessions on a regular basis.

Lido Gets New Lease of Life Carillion staff based at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth helped breathe life back into Hilsea Lido so it can be enjoyed by the local community. Working with Business in the Community, the team re-tiled walls in the changing rooms, repainted public areas, rebuilt walls and cleaned rubbish off the site so the 67m long and 4.5m deep pool, could be once again used by the public. It reopened its doors in July 2014 after six years. We will continue our support on this project throughout the year to ensure it can be enjoyed by future generations. Green Fingers Carillion health staff around the globe have been getting their hands dirty and helping out with gardening projects on sites and in the local community. Staff in South Tees have helped transform the Trinity Holistic Centre garden, redeveloping it to become a more functional and therapeutic space. Volunteers from our Great Western team in Swindon aided the local Wildlife Trust with emptying, cleaning and moving bat boxes. In Canada, Carillion staff from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health supported the Child and Youth programme by turning an area of a local primary school’s courtyard into a community garden so children can better engage with the external environment.

Annual Health Review 2014

A more sustainable health and care system depends on staff, service users, and the public understanding the reasons why sustainability is core to high quality health and care - now and in the future. It is clear that we can only improve health for all in a sustainable way by fundamentally re-examining how we not only deliver high quality health care but also support people and communities to take control over their own health and care.

FM Supply Chain Sustainability School Through our Supply Chain we have been supporting the creation of an FM Supply Chain Sustainability School. David Picton, Chief Sustainability Officer at Carillion is Chair of the School whose purpose is to train (free of charge) the FM supply chain on Sustainability matters with a special focus on SME’s. This new School was launched in January 2015. Across the business we have committed to creation of 5,000 apprenticeships over the next five years supporting careers in construction and support services including healthcare. This commitment ensures we will deliver on the people and community planks of our sustainability strategy.

It is only with us all taking action and being actively involved in the redesign of the whole system that we will we ensure it is fit for the present and future. Much of what we can do to make it future proof will also improve the service now. Embedding sustainability into everyday practices requires long-term governance and cultural change – only achievable by committed leadership at every level and system-wide engagement of staff, patients, public, and policy makers – as well as all third sector and private sector partners.

“I wanted to thank the Carillion laundry sewing team at James Cook University Hospital for providing childrens’ gowns. This was so kind of you and we very much appreciate your generosity. It really does make a difference to the care we can provide children, so thank you again.

We welcome the support, partnership, and commitment of organisations like Carillion so, together there is an aligned and consensual approach to the sustainability agenda of the NHS, the wider health and care system and the country. Carillion clearly want to assist health organisations in achieving all this.

People and Awards Canadian Trio of Awards and Accolades Carillion’s healthcare contracts in Canada have received a flurry of accolades and achievements this year including being named as one of Canada’s Safest Employers by Occupational Safety Magazine. The Sault Area Hospital also achieved a five star energy rating, recognising its commitment to conserve energy and reduce waste, whilst the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre received the Bronze Level A Award from the Green Hospital Scorecard. Top Honours for Carillion and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust Carillion, working in partnership with Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust received the Hospital Catering Award, recognising excellence in the provision of NHS catering services.

neatly with the aims and objectives of Food for Life. Carillion has the expertise and experience within the team to offer the development of this accreditation for all clients. The team at Nottingham carry out a number of activities that are not required by the scheme but which nonetheless enhance the delivery and experience of all involved in the catering service. A highlight of this is the annual farm tour. Provenance is a cornerstone of Food for Life Accreditation. The catering team visit farmers that supply food that goes into the 1.9m meals served per year at Nottingham. This cements relationships and gives us a deep understanding of the impact our services have on the local community and environment.

The Trust was chosen from five finalists as the winner of the prestigious accolade at the Health Business Awards. The Hospital Catering Award is presented to the organisation that has strived to improve the standard of food and its nutritional value for the benefits of both patients and staff. Special mention was given to the sustainability credentials involved in the catering service including the local sourcing of ingredients which supports local suppliers and the local economy. Over three quarters of raw ingredient spend is on local ingredients. Food for Life Gold Accreditation at Nottingham The Soil Association Food for Life accreditation scheme recognises contributions to the environment, social economy and animal welfare standards. Our Nottingham University Hospitals catering team has been working to this standard for some time and our commitments to sustainable communities and socio-economic responsibility dovetail

Improving Staff Engagement In Carillion’s annual staff survey our health colleagues praised the spirit of teamwork in their teams, a strong health and safety culture and the feeling of job satisfaction. Colleagues also requested even more focus on communication and engagement.

“My dearest friend was recently in the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, for four weeks. She went to the café on her last week, as she needed to leave the four walls of her room on Cardiology, however, having made it to the nearest café, she felt too ill to make it back to the ward. David Charlett, was on his break and quickly went to her aid and took her back to the ward. She has asked me to request he is given recognition for being her ‘Knight in Shining Armour’ that day and wants you to know how very grateful she is to David. He was exceptionally kind and caring and I gather he has been a porter for many years, not an easy role these days!” On behalf of Susan Warbey from June Dolphin, the John Radcliffe Hospital

In direct response to this and in a bid to strengthen our communications amongst teams who work in 24/7 hospital environments, we have been hosting focus groups to gain feedback on how we better engage and involve our teams on the ground. One of the outcomes has been the introduction of management team roadshows where our colleagues will have the opportunity to better understand our vision and the role everyone has in achieving this, which ultimately results in a more positive experience for staff and customers. We will also be holding more face to face meetings with colleagues and placing a greater focus on career progression and training.

Carillion Staff Prove to be Best People Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust held their annual Best People Awards event in November attended by key staff and guests. Of the 49 certificates and awards presented, 13 proved to be the lucky number for Carillion staff, as that was the whopping number they scooped in recognition of their hard work and dedication. The prestigious accolades awarded to the Carillion team included the Best Care Award given to Sue Eastman, a high commendation for the Security team, and two CEO Special Awards for Sue Coupland the Patient Services Manager and Donna Carter, a cleaner who individually went that extra mile to support the patient experience at the Queen Alexandra Hospital.

Health Promoting Hospitals Trish Stephenson, Facilities Director at the James Cook University Hospital is a Committee member of the Health Promoting Hospitals network influencing the direction and initiatives of the group through Carillion’s experience of promoting health and wellbeing across Carillion and Trust Teams. Health promotion is a core dimension of quality in hospital services, along with patient safety and clinical effectiveness. With the rise in chronic diseases, the provision of health promotion services has become an important factor for sustained health, quality of life and efficiency.

Health and Safety Health and Safety Innovation Health and safety is at the centre of everything we do and this year we have had some fantastic examples of innovation and best practice across our health contracts. Tailored site specific messages are now sent to all of our contracts in a monthly newsletter ensuring staff receive relevant and engaging information regarding health and safety. As hospitals can often be an environment where staff can be susceptible to aggression we have introduced specific training for all relevant staff to enable them to deal with aggression in the workplace, and we have also developed a ‘safety at home’ briefing to ensure our colleagues remain safe outside of work. We have been working closely with our suppliers through engagement days to ensure all of our services are delivered safely and we have held a year long health and wellbeing campaign to encourage our staff and Trust colleagues to lead healthy lifestyles. Canada Introduces Tour Guard System To enhance and monitor security patrols across the 158,000 sq m Brampton Civic Hospital and its 28 acre grounds in Ontario, we introduced a tour guard system to ensure patrols take place effectively and can be reported on a monthly basis. Check points are located at key areas around the hospital and its grounds where our guards touch in and out of each station. Data is registered and collected during each shift and then collated allowing us to spot any gaps and hazards which are addressed on a daily basis.

Seasonal Flu Campaign Success at South Tees We have been working in partnership with South Tees Hospitals to support its seasonal flu campaign, resulting in a 10% increase in flu jabs for hospital staff. Critical to business continuity and patient welfare, South Tees Hospitals takes part in an annual flu fighter campaign aimed at hospital staff to protect both staff and patients at a time when pressure on clinical and support resources is traditionally high. Last year, the Trust delivered its highest number of vaccines to date – 76% against a target of 75%. Working in partnership with Carillion, staff were incentivised with free hot drinks vouchers redeemable from Carillion restaurants on site. In total 2,200 vouchers were redeemed with informal feedback from staff stating that they liked receiving the hot drinks as a thank you and appreciated the Trust and Carillion working in partnership for a good cause. As a result of the campaign’s success the Trust team were finalists in the ‘Best Flu Fighter Team’ in the National NHS Employers Awards and were also winners of the Trusts’ internal Star Awards in the Partnership Category.

manufacturer, Surfacide, to trial its automatic non-touch UV-C room disinfection system in the UK. The technology allows all areas of the patient environment to be disinfected, overcoming obstacles such as shadows and distance that are inherent issues with using single-emitter UV-C systems. Global Corporate Challenge In 2014 we challenged Carillion employees to participate in the Global Corporate Challenge, an initiative to raise awareness amongst employees to live a healthier lifestyle through a regime of exercise and diet for 100 days. One of the many teams who transformed their lifestyles were seven of our staff working on the Barts Health contract, who amongst them completed over 10,000 steps a day for the 100 days, completed a 15 mile walk across all sites at Barts Health NHS Trust and converted one member from a smoker to a non smoker on completion.

Carillion Introduces Innovative Infection Control to UK The Carillion Health cleaning team at the Royal London Hospital has been piloting an innovative infection control solution featuring a UV-C light triple tower technology system never before used in the UK. Carillion’s Cleaning Centre of Excellence completed extensive research and investigation into using UV-C disinfection to control healthcare associated infections. The research identified a new system that overcomes the short comings of existing UV-C disinfectors. Carillion is working with the US

Hospitals are becoming busier with little difference between weekend and weekday activities. To accommodate this, new ways of working need to be considered to allow for simple things such as routine maintenance, compliance and changing Health and Safety expectations. Reporting and evidencing of our compliance activity has never been more critical. We place customer experience at the forefront of Hard FM thinking and exceptional customer experience should drive Engineering delivery. We have made a strategic decision to provide both physical and thought leadership in this area and have invested and will continue to invest heavily to ensure that we are at the forefront of Health estates delivery.

Zero Tolerance to Allergens We have developed training for all of our UK teams in the new EU Regulations for food information to customers which means patients or customers with food allergies can easily receive information on which foods are suitable to them when choosing their meals. Clear signage is also provided in staff and visitor restaurants and in wards to advise on what Allergens may be in the foods we serve. In Canada, all meal tray assembly and delivery methods have a ‘zero tolerance to allergen’ policy where allergy information is clearly displayed in red font on food labels. Assembly staff receive training to recognise this information and supervisors audit the assembly and cross check against allergy meal reports. An identifiable stamp is then placed on the tray ticket to inform the audit inspection ensuring patient safety with respect to known food related allergies.

My role was created last year with the aim of providing leadership in the sector and a drive towards consistent best practice delivery across all of our health contracts. We have now introduced a comprehensive compliance management tool and a plethora of improvement initiatives that are being trialled across the Health Estates portfolio where successful outcomes will be adopted across our portfolio as best practice.

“We have now gone a full year without an MRSA infection and I want to thank the infection control team for their leadership and all of our staff involved in patient care for taking up their guidance, we also have to thank Carillion who keep our hospital clean and safe. This is a whole hospital effort and a whole hospital success. We can all be justly proud of this achievement - but we can never become complacent and will be continuing to work together to ensure a safe, clean environment at all times. ”. New Projects Oakville Hospital, Canada Carillion has been awarded a 30 year facilities management contract for the 149,000 sq m New Oakville Hospital in Ontario. Involved in the design and build process the Facilities General Manager is co-located with the design and build team to ensure the facility is constructed with long term maintenance and operational efficiency in mind. Carillion will be providing a range of hard and soft services including operations and maintenance of all plant, building systems, non-clinical equipment and all structural and architectural elements as well as the lifecycle programme and utilities management. Soft services will include retail management, help desk, car park management, sustainability services and roads and ground maintenance.

Royal Liverpool University Hospital, United Kingdom Construction of the new £335 million hospital is one year into the programme and scheduled for completion in 2017. So far the existing hospital car parks have been handed over to Carillion as these formed the site of the new hospital. In the 12 months that have since passed the construction is well underway with most of the ground work preliminaries completed and the stair and lift towers beginning to come out of the ground. We will be undertaking hard facilities management services on the existing hospital site from 1st April 2015, providing a planned and reactive maintenance service, grounds maintenance, energy and utilities management and pest control services. The services will be provided to the existing hospitals and education facilities until the new hospital opens in 2017 at which point the old acute hospital is decommissioned and demolished and the Carillion services provision transfers from the old into the new hospital. During this mobilisation period, Carillion have been working closely with the Trust on the set up ahead of service commencement. We are working closely with the NHS on the design and procurement of the systems and equipment to be installed in the new hospital to ensure that it meets the needs of a modern acute health service for both clinicians and patients. The whole city is looking forward to having in 2017 the largest all ‘single-bedroom with ensuite’ hospital in the UK.

Aldara Hospital, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Carillion has recently signed a contract with the Aldara Medical Corporation to deliver Phase II of the Aldara Hospital and Medical Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This new facility will be a state-of-the-art hospital and the largest outpatient centre in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and will provide some of the most advanced medical services in the world. It is strategically located in Riyadh close to the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre and also Al Faisal University.
