changing

At Calvary, we believe every woman has the strengths and gifts she needs to be successful. Each woman in our programs identifies and builds on her strengths, meeting her goals for safe housing, good health and financial independence.

“When I came here, I felt safe. Right away,

I knew I could do something better with my life.”

– Jill, former resident

Starting a New Lena began using drugs as a young adult and her habits spiraled out of control after she got married. When her husband was incarcerated, Lena lost her marriage, her job and her home. After losing almost everything, she knew she had to make a change. She registered for a sobriety program at a local treatment center and completed the 30-day program. A counselor recommended she come to Calvary Women’s Services to build on that success.

“I’m taking care of myself in my own place and I’m so grateful to Calvary.” At Calvary, Lena took important steps toward her goals. With the support of Calvary’s staff, she enrolled in literacy classes and learned how to manage her dyslexia.

life

She worked closely with a therapist at Calvary to manage her anxiety, and she attended Life Skills, Education and Arts Program (LEAP) classes. These activities gave her the practical skills she needed to achieve and sustain independent living. Lena celebrated her first full year of sobriety while at Calvary. She said, “Sobriety is the first thing I did for me. My case manager kept me on track, and I have a good sponsor and a solid network of friends and family who support me.” One year after coming to Calvary, Lena graduated from Calvary’s transitional housing program and moved into her own home. She continues to improve her reading skills and is working as a home care aide. “I’m taking care of myself in my own place and I’m so grateful to Calvary,” she said. “I learned how to love myself there.”

Our Programs Calvary’s housing programs offer a safe place to live, healthy meals and basic services, and our support services program ensures that women are able to take positive steps toward independence.
