The Aquapure Traveller is a personal water purification bottle sold by the company Pure Hydration, designed to turn water from unsafe sources into drinking water for travel, hiking, camping and emergency situations. The bottle uses a filtration platform the manufacturer calls M.A.D., short for Mechanically Advanced Disinfection, and is rated to purify roughly 350 liters of contaminated water before the filter needs replacing.
According to the manufacturer, the filter removes bacteria, viruses and heavy metals from non-saline water sources, and the product is described as meeting protocols set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as well as NSF/ANSI standards 42 and 53, which cover contaminant reduction in drinking water treatment devices. The company also states the product has been endorsed by the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in London.
The bottle is built to be simple to operate: a user fills it with untreated water, screws the filter cap into place and squeezes to push water through the filtration cartridge, without any pumping or separate purification steps.
