FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – November 9th, 2016 Whitehorse, Yukon – The Yukon First Nation Chamber of Commerce hosts successful AIIC Gala Launch Event & Announces New MOU Partner The Yukon First Nation Chamber of Commerce (YFNCC) successfully hosted the Arctic Indigenous Investment Conference Gala Launch Event on October 12th, 2016 in Whitehorse, Yukon. Several new announcements with regards to the upcoming AIIC conference in February were made to a sold-out crowd. “The goal of the AIIC 2017 Gala Launch event was to introduce the Yukon to our upcoming conference, as well as announce new partnerships and conference goals”, says YFNCC President Lynn Hutton. “We are extremely proud to announce our new partnership with the Yukon First Nation Culture and Tourism Association (YFNCTA). We will be working closely together over the next months to plan our conference which will cover all sectors of our economy, including tourism, culture and the arts.” “We are very excited to be working closely with our friends at YFNCC to build strong linkages between sectors of our economics, to increase collaboration between communities and stakeholders, and to leverage resources to create new opportunities for artists, entrepreneurs and businesses across Yukon communities” says Shirlee Frost, President of the Yukon First Nation Culture and Tourism Association. “The timing is perfect, Yukon First Nations are poised and ready to work together to build vibrant and sustainable arts, culture, and tourism sectors.” Keith Henry, President and CEO of Aboriginal Tourism Canada provided keynote remarks at the event, “Aboriginal economic development throughout northern Canada requires partnership and investments in many sectors. Aboriginal tourism in Canada is growing at a rapid pace the Arctic Indigenous Investment Conference will bring together many economic sectors to ensure our communities and entrepreneurs can compete and excel.” Mr. Henry further elaborated, “The Aboriginal Tourism Association of Canada and our partners at Yukon First Nations Culture and Tourism Association are excited to work together and support this important conference. The leadership of the Yukon First Nations Chamber of Commerce is to be commended for taking the lead on this important economic development work! I look forward to attending and supporting the conference this February.” The AIIC Gala Launch Event featured event partner Goldcorp’s Brent Bergeron, keynote speaker Keith Henry, CEO of the Aboriginal Tourism Association of Canada, with introductory remarks by Council of Yukon First Nations Grand Chief Peter Johnston. “On behalf of YFNCC, I am pleased to recognize the key sponsors of this event, the Yukon Chamber of Mines, Casino Mining Corp and Horizon Helicopters.
