Art Annual 2016 Art springs from the desire to express the inner self. In doing so, an artist continuously evolves through a range of thematic concerns, visual styles and techniques. In this creative search, the only constant is the intention to embody the expression of inner perception. The Art Annual 2016 at Mahua Art Gallery embraces artistic creativity by showcasing an eclectic mix of paintings and sculptures by our thirty talented established and emerging artists from over ten Indian states. It is a celebration of regional diversity amongst the featured artists to reveal the timelessness of traditional and modern techniques in contemporary art. The curated collection comprises of figurative, landscape and semi-abstract artworks and sculptures that meditate on spirituality and temporality with a hint of paradox and irony. A wide range of concepts and techniques evident in all the artworks symbolises the diversity of our artists and their experiences. Their narratives traverse through the subjects of love, urban living, rural culture, humanism, nature and spirituality, offering deep insights into the ephemeral human experience. S.Gopinath, an award-winning artist, launches his Lotus Pond series in porcelain. Composed of meticulously textured leaves intertwined with copper stems, his creation delicately represents growth and vitality. Anjali Sapra’s spiritual art mesmerises the onlooker with her reflective spaces created in the medium of egg tempera with natural pigments and hand-made paper. Elancheziyan P. revitalises the old techniques of Chola Art to bring movement and grace to the exceptional bull sculpture symbolising power. Ramesh Gorjala juxtaposes the traditional technique of Kalamkari with a nuanced approach inviting the modern viewer to experience the vast narratives of ancient myths. All art by our selected artists in this annual collection is essentially an expression of a certain vision. The Art Annual 2016 invites you to unveil their individual narratives that originate from the personal and inevitably discover the universal.
