M

ental Health Week (MHW) is a program of the Mental Health Foundation of Australia (Victoria). The aim of MHW is to promote mental health and wellbeing, prevent mental illness and remove the stigma associated with mental illness. The art competition supports community involvement of people living with mental illness. Entrants may submit up to two artworks. Artworks may be paintings, drawings, mosaics, photos, computerised images and other art mediums.

$500 prize and your artwork will be featured as Mental Health Week 2016 poster

Artworks must be suitable for photographic reproduction on a poster and must be capable of being hung for exhibition. The judges will favour works with a positive message about mental health.

Art Competition 2016 Terms & Conditions 1. Entry: The entry is open to all mental health consumers/ service users living in Victoria. 2. Entrance Fee: The entrance fee is $15.00 per individual OR $8.00 if the individual is a member of an Art Group. The cost of entry includes up to two artworks. 3. Delivery: Artworks together with entry fee and entry form must be mailed or delivered to Suite J, 450 Chapel Street, South Yarra, VIC 3141 by 5:00pm, Friday 20 May 2016. *Entrants who mail their artwork must make appropriate arrangements to protect their artwork in transit. No liability will be assumed by the Mental Health Foundation of Australia (Vic) (the Foundation) for artworks damaged in transit. 4. Clear Label: Artworks must be clearly marked on the back with the entrant’s name, address, telephone number, email address and the name of the art group, art group contact person and telephone number submitting artwork on the entrant’s behalf (if applicable). 5. Unacceptable Artwork: Artworks that cannot be hung on a wall and/or that are not suitable for photographic reproduction on a poster will not be accepted.  Artwork deemed not appropriate for this competition by the Foundation Board of Directors will not be considered.

6. Damage: Whilst the Foundation will take all possible care, no responsibility will be taken for any damage which may occur during the hanging process. To avoid damage to your artwork:  Ensure your artwork is dry before submitting it to the competition.  Ensure your artwork has affixed to its back a sturdy and secure means of hanging (i.e. a hanging wire or D-ring).  You may wish to frame your artwork for its protection. 7. Held: All artwork entered will be held by the Foundation for the competition period. 8. Hanging: All artworks will be hung for exhibition. 9. Judging: The Judging will take place in June 2016. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. 10. Judges’ favourable work: While the Foundation acknowledges the many difficulties faced by people living with a mental illness, the Mental Health Week Poster forms an essential part of state-wide campaign to promote mental wellbeing. Entrants should be aware that artwork portraying an optimistic and positive image of mental health will be viewed favourably by the judges. 11. Exhibition Opening: An exhibition opening will take place at Suite J, 450 Chapel Street, South Yarra, VIC 3141 on Thursday 14 July 2016 from 7:30pm-9:00pm. All competition entrants, family, friends and fellow artists are encouraged to attend. Artworks will remain on display between 2:00pm – 4:00pm daily until Friday 29 July 2016.

12. Artwork Sale: Artists may offer their artwork for sale. The price of the artwork must be printed on the entry form. Payments will be received by the Foundation and the sale price (less a 20% administration fee) will be mailed to the artist by cheque. 13. Collection: All artwork must be collected between 10.00am—4.00pm from Monday 17 –29 October 2016 or by appointment. Art group entries must be collected at one time by the organisation. 14. Uncollected Artwork: No responsibility can be taken for uncollected artworks, which may be disposed of after 25 November 2016. 15. Winning Artwork: After judging, the winning artwork becomes the property of the Foundation. 16. The winning artwork will be exhibited throughout Mental Health Week 2016 for the purpose of mental health promotion and may be used in future mental health promotions. 17. The winning artwork will be photographed and will be featured on a poster. 18. Entrants Consent: By entering the competition, entrants give their express consent to the copyright of their artwork vesting in the Foundation if judged to be the winning artwork. 19. Photography: The Foundation shall have the right to photograph artworks and publish those photographs for publicity purposes. 20. Artwork Poster Presentation: A framed poster of the winning artwork will be presented to the winning artist at the Victorian Launch of Mental Health Week in Melbourne on Monday 10 October 2016. All competition entrants, family, friends and fellow artists are encouraged to attend the Launch. Further details about the Launch will follow.
