Art Lives Here Creative Placemaking Request for Proposals Art Lives Here is a community collaboration facilitated by Joe’s Movement Emporium and supported by ArtPlace America and Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Seeking creative placemaking projects that contribute toward the livability and vibrancy of the Gateway Arts District Art Lives Here seeks to invest in creative and innovative projects in which community members, artists, and arts/design organizations improve neighborhood quality of life; encourage creative activity; foster strong community identity and a sense of place; or contribute to a local economy. Projects may include arts engagement, performances, installations, pop-ups, exhibits, or other creative endeavors. Potential Project Sites: • Venues in the Gateway Arts District • Local business or commercial property, vacant or occupied • Local parks or public spaces Deadline: January 6, 2014 Submit to: E-mail: [email protected] Mail/Drop-off: Joe’s Movement Emporium 3309 Bunker Hill Road, Mount Rainier, MD 20712 Application Process: 1. Please provide answers to the following questions, in a narrative format in a document. Include images, links to video footage, and other relevant information. 2. Name and contact information for applicant. 3. Name of Artist or Group. 4. Description of proposed project and all activities or programs. 5. Site use [window, exterior, sidewalk, interior] and how you will secure sight control to do project, if applicable 6. Technical and production needs. 7. What inspires you to propose this project and how does it contribute to a sense of placemaking? 8. How do you hope to impact the community with this project? 9. Who is your anticipated audience or participants? 10. Budget for project including all expenses and other income. Funding may not be used for current programming. 11. Submit 3-5 preliminary sketches and/or images of previous work

Budget: Artist fees from $500-$6,000. Who May Apply: Artists, art educators, organizations or collective, and community members Partnerships encouraged, but not necessary Schedule: Projects to take place from March to December 2014

Selection Process: All project proposals will be considered, but criteria of community engagement, budget and feasibility will drive the selection process by a committee of planning partners and artists. Selections will be made by January 14, 2014.
