Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) is the largest independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preventing asbestos exposure, eliminating asbestos-related diseases, and protecting asbestos victims’ civil rights through education, advocacy, and community initiatives. Asbestos, a known human carcinogen, remains legal and lethal in the United States and imports continue. Each year, up to 15,000 Americans die from asbestos-caused diseases such as: mesothelioma and lung, gastrointestinal, laryngeal, colorectal, and ovarian cancers, as well as non-malignant lung, and respiratory diseases. ADAO Supports Legislation that: 1. Prohibits asbestos use exemptions for any industry 2. Protects existing public health and environmental regulations 3. Protect asbestos victims’ civil rights and privacy 4. Ensure prompt compensation for asbestos victims 5. Create medical monitoring and surveillance program for high risk occupations 6. Honor Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act (LCSA) statutory deadlines ADAO Opposes: 1. The Regulatory Accountability Act (RAA) of 2017 2. The Furthering Asbestos Claims Transparency (FACT) Act 3. Legislation which would, under the guise of reducing burdens on regulated industries, repeal, replace, or modify regulations which protect the public health, safety, and the environment. 4. Legislation that would minimize reporting and recordkeeping requirements for the US Environmental Protection Agency Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization is a registered 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization "United for Asbestos Disease Awareness, Education, Advocacy and Community" 1525 Aviation Boulevard, Suite 318 · Redondo Beach · California · 90278 · 310.251.7477 www.AsbestosDiseaseAwareness.org
