The Bachelor

HON OU RS

of Arts in Fashion Honours

is a fully accredited

1-year full-time or 2-year part-time post-graduate learning programme THAT will provide you with intensive and focused specialisation in Merchandising

and Fashion Theory. The course has been developed by leaders in fashion and retail with a view to giving you the most

progressive and relevant education in the business.

The focus of this programme is applied research (i.e. research in action) in order to solve real ‘problems’ that exist in the field. Of course, if you are considering a strictly academic piece of research you will be allowed to pursue this avenue as well. Alongside building your research capacity, this programme deepens a theoretical and practical understanding of both Merchandising and Fashion Theory.

The Honours course consists of two components, Merchandising and Fashion Theory.

In the Merchandising class all the commercial disciplines are viewed and studied together in an attempt to give you a holistic as well as strategic view of marketing, business, merchandising, retailing and logistics. In the Fashion Theory class, you will learn how to think conceptually about a range of issues. Themes dealt with include modernity, gender roles, globalization, memory, fantasy and identity. You will study a wide range of theorists who look at these main themes in relation to past and contemporary designers of a variety of nationalities. Through this course, you will gain perspectives on important issues of life and how fashion reflects and engages with these issues. You will demonstrate your understanding in the form of a researched, long essay and an examination at the conclusion of the course.
